Here is the deal. People (not anybody in particular) clamor for companies to catch a clue and release their games for less money so we, the consumers, can afford them. When talking about the movie industry, the music industry, and yes, even the games industry, people always use the argument "I would buy it, if only they would sell it for cheaper."
Well, Sega and Codemasters (and others) are taking heed of this "novel" idea and are selling games that are worth much more for only 20 bucks. Desperation? maybe a little, but the point is, they are finally doing what we have asked them to for years.
Yes, it has been done before, and yes, the concept is nothing new, but $15 (at Best Buy after using a $5 off coupon) is a small amount of money to pay for a game that is great AND starts to change the face of the industry. If we don't bite when companies offer cheaper games that retain the quality of their $50 counterparts, there will be more and more high-priced games.
Yeah, I'm rambling, but the point is: This is what we asked for. If we make a concerted effort to buy these games, and EARLY in their shelf-life, more and more companies will consider this route. In turn more companies will sell games for less to stay competitive, and everybody wins.
If NFL2K5 sells a bunch of copies this time around, and stays with the budget pricing next time around, nobody would be suprised if Madden dropped in price, even by $10 to stay competitive.
Thoughts?
