I built myself an electronic drumkit...Here's some instructions so you can do it

Anyway, these are my instructions for how to build a relatively cheap and increadibly functional electronic drum kit. The instructions aren't done yet, and still very much in draft form, but there's good stuff here that'll interest some of y'all. I'll be making steady progress on this PDF and updating it as I go.

Oh yeah, for anybody who was following this in the Bemani thread in the game discussion board, I'll have the settings needed to hook this up to drummania shortly.

Well....depends on how much of a deal you can get on Remo Practice pads. You can probably by them for about $15 each if you search hard enough on line. After that, you have to put about $3 worth of other stuff in there. So under $20 for each trigger times however many triggers you want to make. The frame was under $40 in material. The drum brain is whatever you want to buy. A used Alesis DM5 is under $160 if you look hard enough.

So....not cheap, but a hell of alot cheaper than buying one for $1000+

Do you use this for video games or actual drumming? Because if it's for actual drumming that shit is fucking awesome. I've always wanted an electric drumkit.

I built it as an actual stand-alone instrument. Hence, my posting in Sound Off and not the Game forum. It has the side-benefit of being a freakin' amazing controller for Drummania. :D In the comming days I will create instructions to cut out the Alesis Drum Module and make it a straight game controller for those interested (mainly on the Bemanistyle message boards) but I figured all would be interested in the regular instrument version.

Is there any way to get a MIDI out on these? I've never tried making anything like this, but if it's possible to do the MIDI thing I might have to give it a shot.

Yes (depending on the trigger module you slap on). But I've never seen a trigger module that isn't MIDI.

Sorry for the delay with the rest of the instructions. I was in Puerto Rico since Friday. :)

this sounds like a fucking awesome idea.

I'm just worried that my lack (more of an absence) of construction skills will make me botch it up. If I can get a friend to help me with this, I'll give it a burl (when the instructions are done).
