A simple question. I'm curious as to the numbers here.
For me it's a yes. Many of my favourite developers of the past have declined but there have been plenty of others filling in their places.

I'm happy. I've seen a lot of stuff I wasn't really expecting to see, and a lot of stuff that I was. In fact, this is probably the most I've gamed since the NES days back when I was a lad.
There's been a good deal of killer PC titles, a lot of console games look good to. I'm trying to get back into console gaming but unfortunately I gave my PS2 away when I went to boot-camp :\
Yes. I play more games than I have before, and feel like there's more good games out there these days. It has it's drawbacks, though. More than ever I'd rather get another game than try to beat the one I just finished on hard or try to get 100 percent, so my skills have probably declined in some areas. Say for instance, back in the day I got all the endings in Chrono Trigger and went through every event possible. I recently finished Disgaea, but I don't feel like getting every single weapon or all the endings...I'd rather play La Pucelle.
I'd say overall yeah I'm Happy with this Gen much more so than the one before it for sure.
I've been very pleased so far.
There have been some quality continuations of old series, and many of the new series coming out during this generation are spectacular and show alot of potential.
i was all set to pick yes, but went with no at the last second. I think there are a lot of good games coming out this gen, but i just don't have the same love for games as i did in the SNES days. Not sure if it's the games, or just me, but i don't think i can consider myself satisfied with my interest in the hobby dying.
Does this generation count the Dreamcast? I said yes for many reasons but a factor definitely is XBOX Live. Initially I bought it to play with my friends without the hassle of having to go to their place. I always thought that I'd play with strangers a few times and that's it. Now I know several regulars that I enjoy playing with and this motivates me to play online.
Well, I count the DC, and thanks to it, I'm extremely happy with this gen. Not counting it, the Xbox has moved console gaming forward immensely, and the GC has provided me with many gaming memories, and the ability to play any GB/C/A game on my TV, which rules. The PS2 has provided a ton of fun games across many genres, like the NES, SNES and PSX did before it.
I very pleased. Especially this past winter when I had a lot of time to catch up on Xbox and PS2 games I had missed. I heart Dreamcast. Though not my favorite generation It's second right behind the 16bit era.
Anytime I look at the list on my sig I'm reminded of how many fantastic games covering a multitude of genres there are. I keep thinking there isn't enough time to play them all, but there is.
More than satisfied with the games.
No, there should be one more year.
Hell yes. I just got Digital Devil Saga and it's enough to make me forget other games even exist.
Why did you buy the DDS import when Atlus is publishing it here in November? That makes absolutely no sense what so ever.
Because I would have to buy a US PS2 to play it. I was tempted to wait knowing it was on the way to the US, but there wasn't much coming out soon that I wanted to play while there were too many games being released around November.Quote:

We've seen a pretty fundamental shift, but if we are talking console generations, it has not been a positive net effect.
Most definately - Yes. Yes ! Yes !!
My problem with not playing games come not from the lack of good games to play, but with too many other factors in my life taking more and more of my time :(
very, morrowind pretty much reinvigorated gaming for me, and i have even found some mmo's that were fun. Wind waker was an artistic dream, animal crossing was a wonderful game that provided me with great play experiences, and kotor really got me with its quality, and i have significant anticipation for games like star fox 2, pimin 2, fable and the new zelda so if its just consoles, then yes, if it includes this generation of pc games, then its oh hell yes.
Yes, definitely. Alot more than last generation. I've never lost interest in gaming since I started playing 20 years ago, and this gen pretty much confirms that I won't anytime soon.
Thanks to the XBOX and PC, yes.
yea, i suppose satisfied is the word. :p
Yes
Overall I'm satisfied with this generation -- I have definitally bought more games this gen than any other (Although that could be because I have a real job and am no longer in high school), but I am sad to see some of my favorite developers pump out games below their past standards (Nintendo? Konami? Capcom? Sega? I'm looking at all of you), but am thrilled to see new/unproven-to-me developers (Ubi Soft, Microsoft family, Sucker Punch... off the top of my head) come out of no were and really prove they can do a great job even when the other guys slip.
If it's just GC, PS2, and XBox, I'd say that it's been great, but nothing has blown me away this gen to the degree that some of the Dreamcast titles did.
Yep.
Yes.
Reason:
PS2 gives me some really good RPGs/tactical RPGs/weird games, Xbox gives me some nice racing games, sport games and better resolution + sound. No reason to complain until I get a GCN (just joking!)
A definite yes!
This generation has finally made 3-D gaming a reality. Though PSX, N64 and to some extents Saturn did a respectable job of 3-D for the time, this generation has enough horsepower to make the environments feel lifelike.
Handheld gaming is finally reaching a level, where it can be just as enjoyable as it's big brother consoles.
Online console gaming is becoming a reality and the amount of quality games we've recieved so far is hard to keep up with. In the past, I could keep up with all the great titles being released. This generation, it's really hard to choose, because there is almost too many games that I want to play, but would hardly have the time to do so.
Just the PC. Everything else has sucked.
I like it. Xbox is definitely the winner here for me. Xbox Live is tons of fun and a worthy investment. I liked shit on other platforms too; games that come to mind are Far Cry, Disgaea, and Metroid Prime. Those games alone make this generation worthy.
Not satisfied IMO last gen was stronger. Today’s games aren’t close to great tittles like FF7, Alundra, LOL Ocarina of Time, Castlevania SOTN, and Vagrant Story.
Great titles are still being made, just more from the US, Canada, and Europe than any previous gen.Quote:

The scope of games has increased dramatically, things I used to dream about are now commonplace, and we're seeing the emergence of games that truly qualify as art.
My personal ranking of the eras:
1. 16 bit
2. DC-Current
3. 8 bit
4. 32 bit
5. Pre-8bit/classic
In a word, no.
Games are just not as fun to me as they used to be. The ability to do "realistic" worlds and such has made genres which I once to used to really like become quite boring (FPSes in particular).
Stringing video games with pop culture has also made experiences less fun. The Need for Speed series has become about "bling bling" and "street rep" instead of actual exotic cars and things like fun handling. A waste of good talent.
I think developers are biting off more than they can chew by trying to be ambitious because they want to go in a new direction, and failing IMO. 3D games are replacing 2D games, and while I don't inherently dislike 3D games, most third-person games are quite garbage because of camera limitions and trying to convey a "realistic" experience, despite the fact that I play games to be in an unbelivable world.
Heck yes, I'd explain, but its been explained thoroughly higher how games are more entertaining now then they used to, and the Nostalgia fever people have been having for ages now is starting to fade with the great stuff coming out this gen. Even though I was a kid in the old SNES / Gen/ PSX days, I would have bought all of the consoles if they caught my interest as much as this gens consoles do. Im just drowning in a bunch of great games, its hard not to say yes to Neo's poll.
Absolutely! Yes! Yes! Yes!
There is no question that this gen has been a great one. Especially when including the Dreamcast. As it was mentioned, 3D finally came into its own. You can definitely liken it to 8-bit vs 16-bit 2D. The shift was large back then, and the shift was large now. I really can't see another shift feeling as drastic as these two; it looks like from this point out, it will only be a gradual one. Now it will be about adding finesse and optimizing. Yet who knows what the distant future holds.
I think that Japanese gaming is becoming stagnant, overall. There are still some gems out there, but look at how Ubi Soft is performing right now, and EA are doing some great things as well. There's a lot more great gaming going on in the west right now, it's rather remarkable. I haven't bought nearly as many Japanese created games in this gen (post DC, of course) as in the past. And while this is surprising to me, I don't regret it one bit.
I don't know what this forecasts for the future, but hopefully with the advent of newer, more powerful technology, the creativity will keep up.
All that said, though, I'm one happy gamer. If I only got Halo (and I got a hell of a lot more) this would still be a great Generation of gaming.
Super Happy
Totally satisifed.
This is the first generation since the 16-bit era where I've played a multi-player game on a regular basis.
I'm happy at the moment. A lot of must have games are coming out IMO this year, especially on the Gamecube...
There wasn't a must-have game on Gamecube last year, let alone this year.Quote:

Well I see them all as essential purchases but thats just my tastes. Everyones opinion varies and I respect yours... :)
I too have been taking much breaks in between games. There are many games I enjoy with the current consoles, but overal I feel it was a tad disappointed towards this generation.Quote:

A yes with the caveat that the multiplatform madness and instant releases of licensed garbage both irritate the fuck out of me
But they also make lots of money for publishers and devs, which means bigger industry overall, shrug
My All-Time Top Ten contains these current-gen games:
Halo (5)
NBA Street (6)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (9)
Looking through my collection, I've been impressed with the innovation and entertainment value of:
Splinter Cell: Pandora's Tomorrow
Crimson Skies
War of the Monsters
Winning Eleven 7
Wind Waker
...to name a handful. I'm very happy with this, the greatest generation for videogames yet!
