It's a real shame, that a player with so much talent, has decided to call it quits. Not since Barry Sanders retired from the Detroit Lions, have I felt such a great player, retired before his prime.

Williams has been an amazing back. The only reason New Orleans traded him was a history of injury and the fact that Deuce McAllsiter turned out to be so good. Miami not being able to win had nothing to do with him and his back to back 1300+ yard seasons - he led the league in rushing his first season on the Dolphins. It was because they had no O-line, no passing game, and a moron coach who ran him into the ground - I believe he broke the record for most carries in a game at 40+ against the Bills this year, and had other 30+ carry games.Quote:

This is why contracts have Out Clauses. Do you think if he had been crippeled or permanently injured during his time with the team, that they would have paid him the entireity of his future pay? Doubtful. The team is not obligated to him, nor is he to it, anything more than what is in the contract. If he has an Out Clause (Haven't seen indication either way, but lack of talk of taking this to court seems to imply he does have that), the man can exercize that option.Quote:

Ricky Williams is too big of a baby to actually follow the rules, like showing up to training camp at playing weight, not testing positive for Marijuana, and being counted on by a team that has invsted millions in him. This is his escape mechanism at age 27, so that he can continue to be Peter Pan. This isn't a man choosing a course in life. It is a mental 10 year-old finding a place to hide 5,000 miles away from his responsibilities.
If you can't see why you should be happy, or at the least, indifferent about someone who has made a decision to change their life and be happier, you probably shouldn't bother replying. I agree with diff on the fact that Williams is quiting on this team. Had he said at the end of the year last season ok i'm retiring, find someone else to do my job, I could have looked at it and said alright, man is a nut but at least he had some class and warned the team that it was gonna happen. That would have allowed the Dolphins to draft someone or sign a free agent back. Hell, had he even had the class to tell them a WEEK ago they could have signed Eddie George or Antowain Smith. Instead he waits until a week before training camp when all the major free agent backs have been signed to tell the team that he's retiring. The Dolphins have the right to sue and I would totally be callin my lawyers right now if i were them.
And wow do the Saint's look like genius's now for drafting Duece and trading Williams quitting ass.

The problem with R. Williams was the timing of it all. To quite 1-2 weeks before training is appalling. It put the coach, the team, and the owners in a very difficult position. He should have given notice of his "retirement" much earlier.
He's in great shape, has attended all camps, and dropped weight. He was set to tear it up this year. The man's been abused near Earl Campbell proportions the past two years and you can't question his past effort or production. He willingly and knowingly failed his drug tests because why put in the effort to pass a drug test for a job you don't want or intend to keep? Again, the timing of the decision is the problem, but Miami can trade Ogunleye to the Bears for A-Train. This is a worse setback than the Carlos Boozer saga but the franchise has to regroup and move on.Quote:

Difference between Ricky Williams and Buster Douglas is Buster knew he had accomplished the impossible, it was time to cut and run. Williams is in his prime, is a dominant running back in an offense designed to cater to his skills. But whatever.
