Just in case - SPOILER ALERT

Please, enlighten me.

Where in the hour and a half preceding the ending is anything shown hinting that these guys live in modern times and not the 19th century? It seems every reviewer in the world saw the ending coming a mile away and yet I felt like the most notable thing about the film was its astonishing ending.

What I wanna know was, why was he snortin' like a beast? No way he made those noises. Night was a bit manipulative there.

Not his best movie, but I think a lot of you guys are way too cynical. The concept is definetly original. The suspense just wasn't there. But who am I to criticize.

Threads like these are why I realized, long ago, that it is pointless to read movie reviews on the internet. There's always somebody to trash anything, and people always talk like they could make a far better movie when bets are they couldn't.

It had some problems, sure, and the twist wasn't exactly what I would have done. Before we went, my friend said he was 100% sure that the creatures were tree creatures, and once the secret of the red creatures was releaved things happened that made me almost believe that. I liked the ending, because I like weird situation endings like that, but I might not have done the same had I made the movie.

People who bitch and moan about little things in movies just need to get over it. "How can this have happened?" or "how am I supposed to believe that?" and whatnot. Jesus, it's just a movie - it's a piece of fantasy meant just to tell a story. If we only watched movies that were 100% accurate, we'd have no movies at all to watch.

I loved the mood and setting of the movie. I like that most of it took place during the day, I liked the woods as a setting, I liked the fog. I also really liked Ivy - she was a great character, and she was a total hottie. She did, at times, a bit, get around too well for a blind girl, but I have better things to worry about than that.

Part of me is a bit disappointed in how it turned out - I loved the premise of the creatures living just outside of the village, of the truce, all of that. I think it would have worked better had the twist been that after being told there were no monsters that there actually was. Still, I enjoyed the movie, as I have all of M's movies.

Also, I think the way people talked was definately a hint that things weren't what they seemed. It seemed at first like it was just corny writing, but I think it was done on purpose - the adults were trying to pretend like they were just simple people who talked like that, so for them they didn't sound natural because it wasn't for them.

I couldn't make a movie that comes within spitting distance of The Village.

Then again, I haven't spent millions of dollars trying to make one and then charged you $9 to see it.

If there had been monsters, I would have liked it. If he had let people in on the "it's all fake" twist from the beginning, I also would have liked it. As it is, I didn't like it, because the Big Important Message had no time to be developed with any sort of grace (about 20 minutes at the most), and the thriller aspect ended with a big wet fart.

I'd be willing to bet that you could give $100 million to every person on this message board, and most people still wouldn't make a movie that comes close to being as good as the Village. Actually, I'd be surprised if even one was - and yes, I'm including myself in the probability of sucking.

I know my movie would be an absolute mess. I'd probably try something avant-garde just to hide my lack of talent.

I also can't cook. I burn food all the time, and if I try anything complex... forget it. But if I go out to a restaurant and the food sucks, I can still tell.

My movie would be porn.

Imagine...

Put in some monkeys, some midgets, a lot of fast cars, guns and shit blowing up.

You'd still have 10 mill left for the Debauchery Fund.

I haven't seen it, but I heard that her acting was really top notch from a review on CNN. She happens to be Ron Howard's daughter too...

Shidoshi- You think Ivy was hot? Talk about a Sarah Plain and Tall. No quality features on that girl what so ever.

I didn't like how they sent Ivy out and no one questioned it. You could count that towards everyone else being scared shitless, but no thinks that sending a blind girl through the woods alone is a good idea? "The monsters will take pity on you." Yeah, great but what about wandering around the woods alone? She's got an amazing sense of direction apparently. And Noah taking that suit doesn't make much sense either. Sure he's retarded but he knew Ivy was pissed at him, why would he chase her and shit like that? I don't like the "because he's retarded" route because it's too stupid and convinant. And I dont think anyone can say that this flick got pretty boring at times.

That said though, I liked how there was some revenge with the "elders" at the end. They escape reality to this made up world because they can't handle life and one of thier kids (Noah) gets killed. Aint that about a bitch? I'd like to know where the other people came from though. Is it only the elders who are suppossed to know? There were a few adults there, how did they get put in the village without knowing?

Sean126- There were a few hints. Just off the top of my head, they way people talked didn't seem right. How Noah was allowed in the woods (we see him clapping and laughing when they think the creatures are in the village. He knows but no one would believe what he said anyway). And when Sigorney Weaver was telling her characters backstory, she says her husband was beat up in an alley and dumped into a river. She said "alleyway" which didn't seem right to me. I'm not sure if it was on purpose, but I consider alleyways a city thing. It didn't look like there were any buildings in the village close enough together to really be considered an alleyway. And at that point in the story I wasn't sure where she was talking about. Did it happen in that village or somewhere else? If it was somewhere else, how did they establish this place with these dangerous creatures in the woods? The village looked small so an event like a mugging/murder would have been well known (and I assume the people caught because she said he was naked and robbed). All the other stories from the elders didn't seem to fit with where they were. I just got a sense that things just didn't fit together right.

Oh, my theatre got a few laughs too. The part where she hits the rock road and uses that big stick as a guide and just hauls ass down the path.
