doom - starting the shareware demo on my 386 after downloading it from a local bbs. also, cyberdemon death.

half-life - opening train ride + teleporting to xen in the initial fuckup (sound effects had a lot to do with this one.) i completely ignored the hype for this game. when i first booted it, the only screenshots i had seen were on its box.

i also agree with the ssx3 one. i love that game.

to name a few, Mario 64 like you mentioned(and everything about it). The other would be seeing Daytona USA at the arcades on one of those 50" screen, the smoothness of the framerate, the detail, the sheer speed made me piss my pants infront of the machine! :eek:

seeing Mortal Kombat 2 at the arcades for the first time....it gave me that erie feel!

Virtua Fighter 3, i was in Japan at one of the HUGE sega arcade centers where VF3 was being tested, seeing the graphics go from VF2 to VF3 game me goosebumps! ofcourse, i only had one go since there must have been hundreds of people waiting for thier turn!(sega reps were there too)

Metroid Prime....EVERYTHING!!!

The beginning and ending of the original Shenmue. Buying and drinking sodas in the original was also quite memorable. The opening stage of Mickey Mania, due to it being surreal. Having a four way elimination match in Fire Pro Wrestling 2 reach the 99:99 time limit, with the Big Show of all people at the end of it.
First playing Jet Grind Radio via an ODCM demo, and being floored at the graphics, and how well the game played. Getting a Crazy license in the original Crazy Taxi ranks pretty high on the list. Popping in Animal Crossing for the first time and seeing how unique the game was, and still is. Playing Metroid Prime for the first time and being taken aback at the unbelievable atmosphere in it.

Metroid for sure, I got sucked into the world in a matter of minutes. I don't play many games more than once but this is one of them.

Prince of Percia, finally a game that makes climbing ladders quick and painless... not to mention a whole lot of other platforming elements. I loved the gameplay mechanics and found the world to be rich and disney/aladin like.

Breakdown, the fight with Solus and a few moments where... the time stuff... saying anymore could ruin it for others.

1. Standing in line to play Street Fighter II in the arcade. This represented both the revialization and the last deep breath of arcades in America. We just didn't realize the latter at the time.

2. Panzer Dragoon. Since games had been 2D since the beginning of time, it was hard to just be shocked by them, no matter how beautiful they had become. Panzer Dragoon was the sign that all of that was about to change.

3. MMORPGs. Let me get this straight. I can play a Star Wars game where I can choose between 32 different professions, visit ten different planets, and play with thousands of other people at the same time? Holy shit!

I'll vote again for Mario 64, as well as for Legend of Zelda OoT. I had gone with only playing 5 NES/Genny games to then seeing those. A nice sight to see.

Seeing the moon slowly get bigger and bigger in the sky in Majora's Mask.

Seeing Dragon's Lair at the arcade for the first time.

Figuring out how this new-fangled "battery save" thing worked in NES Zelda.

I loved both of those. Granted, I was cheating when I saw that in Duke 3D.

Silent Hill, when you see the actual "other side" of the entire city. Jesus Christ was that awesome and disturbing.

Playin' Quake 2 with someone who had enough patience to teach me WASD, followed by telling me I could join their clan if I could frag them. Of course, I couldn't.

Playing PSO for the first 120 hours on Dreamcast.

Having a crowd form behind me while I kicked ass at Gyruss at the local arcade. Then seeing a real master take my high score. :(

The industry crash in the mid 80's. You could go to a store and get an entire library of games for about $50. I remember getting Atari 7800 games; Galaga, Robotron, Joust, Centepede, Dig Dug, ect all for $10 each and arcade perfect.
