Help a Mac Newbie

I have just purchased my first Mac in the form of a G4 ibook. I'm used to running windows however and was wondering if anyone could provide some tips for getting used to OSX. Any tips are appriciated but my big question right now is what is the keyboard shortcut aquivlent of Windows' Alt+Tab? This let's you switch quickly between open applications and windows.

Forget all that complicated crap that you learned with Windows. Everytime I use the Macs at the lab I have to remind myself not to overthink how to do something.

Hell, there has to be a few Apple Faithful here that can really answer some questions.

The equivalent to Windows Alt+Tab is......Alt + Tab. :lol:

You've just gotta poke around a little bit. The only thing I can think of is F9-F11 are the Exposé keys, so mess around with that; it's a neat little feature. Congrats on the new Mac. :D

If you've already opened the box, thus killing your ability to get a full refund, I can no longer help you. :P

erm...I just realized that I was wrong on the key combo, it's command+tab. Boy do I feel dumb. :sweat:

http://www.versiontracker.com/ is incredibly valuable.

Find "KeyCue" on there. It's a cool program that will show you ALL of the keyboard shortcuts an application has.

A lot of helpful programs are in the /Applications/Utilities folder: Terminal, Network Utility, Printer Setup, Airport Admin, Directory Access, Console, etc. Learn some basic linux commands if you don't know them. In the Terminal, use "man" to read the manuals for the commands - ex:

If you're using Safari, add the "Debug" menu. Open Terminal and type:

Minimize windows for software updates during "Optimization" and they'll complete quicker.

iBook specific - Keep an eye on the battery.

And yeah, "Alt-Tab" is "Apple-Tab."

Oh yeah, if you don't leave your computer on all of the time, make sure that you repair priveleges about once a month (/Applications/Disk Utility.app, click on your drive and then, "Repair Priveleges"), and run the periodic tasks as often as it is convenient. The periodic tasks are done from the Terminal:

Yes, but many apps use alt+tab to cycle between its own windows. Which is excellent, I wish Windows (and all multi windowed Mac apps) did this.
