There were absolutely some completely unneccessary moments in the boar sequence. The Buggy run was just about the right length. I had alot of fun with it. But the boat sequence felt like it was repeating itself after a while.Quote:

It'll be at least a week before I can get a new one (need to get the kind I like from ebay, and can't find a cheapy $5 one to tide me over. cheapest anyone around here has is $20). That means no HL2 for a week. This sucks so much ass. As does navigating the internet with only keyboard shortcuts.

one interesting thing about half-life 2 are the vortigaunts, which are the alien slaves from the first game. yknow, the lightning-shooting aliens. apparently, when nihilanth was killed, its hold on their minds was broken. after the combine invasion, they joined forces with the humans to fight their new common enemy.

after spending a few hours with it, i'm warming up to hl: source. even though the textures are old, the lighting is much better. there are subtle hl2-style reflections on many of the surfaces.
there are even a (very) few areas that have updated graphics, particularly the huge cliff face from "surface tension." previously, if you looked away from the cliff, all you'd see is an ugly, low-resolution bitmap signifying the canyon below. now it's fully modelled.
another thing i was surprised about is that the headcrab AI has been made to match hl2. they turn much faster than the original. to compensate, they can be brought down with a single crowbar smack mid-jump.
some game mechanics have been tweaked as well. for one thing, it's much easier to push and pull boxes. for another, the weapons handle slightly differently. the recoil on the handgun and smg is more in line with hl2, and the explosions from mines/grenades have been redone. and of course, the rag dolls.
they're all minor changes, but they're very welcome to anyone that's played the original a few times.you get it with the collector's edition + the silver & gold packages.Quote:
