Why is rock music not a viable radio format in New York City? This baffles me.
I have found nothing official about this format change, which would be completly retarded is true.
I found this, however, posted yesterday:
So...no.Quote:
Tom Chiusano guided WXRK for over 20 years.
Tom Chiusano, the unflappable suit who guided WXRK (92.3 FM) through the Howard Stern years and several musical incarnations, said Friday he's stepping down as vice president and general manager.
Chiusano will remain through Jan. 25 and then consult for WXRK and its parent, CBS Radio, through June, he told the trade magazine Radio & Records. No replacement has been announced for K-Rock, which has struggled in the ratings since it dropped its Free-FM talk experiment last year and returned to a rock format. K-Rock morning team Opie and Anthony caused a brief stir yesterday when they said Chiusano's departure meant the station would be flipping to a country format, which Chiusano said was not true. It recently hired two daytime rock deejays.
Chiusano took over at WXRK in 1985 just as the station was installing Stern as its morning host. Chiusano became a regular guest on Stern's show, taking the heat when Stern was frustrated with corporate decisions. He also discussed a range of other matters, including his successful cancer treatment several years ago at Sloan-Kettering.
Outside of the Stern show, he wrestled for years with the rest of K-Rock's format, which included stretches of classic rock, modern rock and alternative rock as well as the Free-FM experiment it launched after Stern left in December 2005.
"I've had an unbelievable run, having worked with the biggest and best names in the business," Chiusano said a statement. "And as proud as I am of the legacy, I'm equally enthusiastic about what the future holds."
Chiusano told R&R he has no plans past June. There has been some speculation he could join his old boss Mel Karmazin and Stern at Sirius Satellite Radio.
Still, I'll flip on K-Rock for a few seconds tomorrow morning, just out of curiosity. But then it's right back to my Sirius/iPod.
I had kind of the same experience here the other day. I was on I-35 and noticed a billboard for "97.1 The Eagle" which was taken off the air years ago for "Sunny 97.1" and then later some chicano station. Crazy enough, there it was. I listened for a couple minutes before going back to XM. :p
I don't remember them saying anything about Tom leaving, pretty sure they didn't mention when the switch was going to happen (or if as the case may be. A switch to country music seems way too bizarre).
I never bothered to check. They're still rock, right?
Yeah. Tom is on vacation now, I think he leaves the building at the end of the week. No official word on a format switch (yet?)
This show has really won me over in the last few months of commuting to Brooklyn, especially since they've had Jim Norton and Louis C.K. on a LOT.
Louis C.K is easily one of the best comics today. He's always awesome when he's on the show. I just wish they could get Colin Quinn out of his apartment more often. The guy has some serious mental issues but he's a fucking genius too. Him and Norton are the greatest together. Rich Vos brings special joy to my life, it's hard to believe someone can be so stupid and have some sort of career. The only comic friend of the show that I don't really like is Bob Kelly. I don't find him funny at all.
