Super Mario Ball

I'm generally fairly cautious of console/portable pinball games; because let's face it, they generally suck. The only two pinball games I've ever liked were Pinbot (NES) and Pokemon Pinball (GBC).

Anyway, the graphics on this one are REALLY impressive (from a distance they look like GameCube graphics since everything is pre-rendered). There are a lot of tables to play on, but they are only one screen big and are very basic.

I think I'm going to give it a miss unless it gets very good press.

Must buy for me both looks good and innovative.

Am I the only one who was thinking of a Nintendo-themed Super Monkey Ball game when reading the topic? This is cool though.

I'm confused. Is this just the Japanese name for Mario Pinball or a different game?

Nope. Same here. Then I thought to myself "Oh yeah, that pinball game."

I'm actually excited about this. I love pinball and having a great title on the go would be a lot of fun. I tend to like games based on a score system more in my handheld gaming, while I'll play something like Tactics on my GBPlayer.

And yes, Devil/Alien Crush rocked. Some of the best video pinball games ever made.

Just give me a port of Pinbot and I'll be set.

But this? Meh. I'm not a fan of pinball games that have a ton of really simple tables.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Nintendo isn't getting my money again for another general game that happens to have Mario in it. When I see some stellar reviews for it, I'll give it a shot. Those really simple table layouts really do frighten me, though.

On a side note, has anyone tried out that new pinball game that came out for Xbox this week?

Yeah, and you apparently suck at conveying it.

It almost appears that the game is based on progressing through the various levels and racking up points to open new areas, as opposed to straight up hi-score play. The "boss type" battle look cool. Color me interested.

This game is very innovative. I love the concept.

The Mario franchise does everything though. Golf, Karting, now this. What's next, Baseball?! :)

Looks great plus the ways of unlocking the door to the next table are cool too. Look at the pyramid table on that video for a cool example. Plays like Monkey Ball which in my opinion isn't a bad thing.

I tried out the demo for Super Mario Ball (Or, rather, Mario Pinball Land as it's titled in the states) and really left impressed and wanting more.
The game feels more like an adventure game than a pinball game. From the few screens that I was able to play, there were no bumpers, tilts or other standard pinball cliches. What was abundant were respawning enemies with different ways of defeating them, items and plenty of Mario World gravy. I even had a boss battle and ran into a shop ran by Toad while I was trying it out. All pretty cool stuff.

Much like Mario vs Donkey Kong, this game just seems like it's going to be another ideal title to pick up for a few minutes and than turn off when you need to get back to work again.
I'm looking forward to it.
