"There's basically two ways of making games for the PSP. One way is to develop an original new game, which in general will be limited in its content since the price of PSP games aren't going to be too high, meaning the game's development budget will also be limited."
Theres an idea, make shittier games or just ports because we don't want to spend alot of money we wont get back.
i want psp to do well but the ds will own cause its cheaper. just like the sega handheld it was better than gameboy but gameboy sold more cause it was cheaper. so psp will not do well. but as long as i can buy it i dont care.
Yep. The GameGear tanked at the height of sega's popularity because it was overpriced. The odd thing is that sega elected not to port many of it's best SMS games to GG, even though the two systems were virtually identical.
Maybe PS2 ports will be a good thing for the PSP, since most of the original content is looking like shit and there are so many PS2 games that are worth playing. As long as there are a dozen or so decent original titles every year, I don't see the PS2 ports as a problem.
i would want a gta port. that would be the best. and probly help sell more psp's
Yeah, nothing like icing folks on a three-inch high screen. Well, I'm sad at this news, kind of. Although nothing will ever make me enjoy a GT game, they should be making better use of the hardware that they're hyping up as the end-all of portable gaming as we know it. Instead, they're just doing what many people hate: making ports and remakes for quick cash runs. At least Nintendo usually does it for games that have long been out of print or circulation.
I'd like to see Capcom Fighting Jam or some of Capcom's other fighters ported, just so the sprites could be displayed at their normal resolution and not look shitty. Other games I'd want would be Ico, both Maximo games (on a single UMD) Devil May Cry, VF4Evo, MGS2Substance, and pretty much anything else that would work with the PSP's limited controls and doesn't suck.
I'd like that Euro only Wipeout game ported. I'll buy anything with Wipeout on it.
Twisted Metal, Tony Hawk, Spider-Man, Ape Escape, and Darkstalkers all looked like ports to me. Sony actually said no ports? Was that before or after E3, because most of the games they showed looked like ports.
Twisted Metal looked like a TM 2 port, but I'm hoping it's due to that being a TM compilation, as that would rule.
I was really excited about this and now I know that I can just ignore it and get GT4 on the Ps2.
DS wins now by default.
Popolocrois Monogatari is a port (from the PSOne). Quite a few others from the list of games announced were too. I don't see why this is so shocking.
Wow, I thought I was the only one!Quote:

While I think GT4 will be quite amazing (due to track design, mostly), this is stupid. Who didn't think this machine would be port heavy just like the GBA?
Kinda. I never really appreciated ANY racer for more than a few minutes, hold cart racers. Racing around a set track a certain number of times get's so annoying and tedious that I usually quit playing before the first run is over. If I wanted to drive around in a pretty car, I would buy a WRX, thank you.Quote:

Well, in general, I love racing games. But this series just doesn't do much for me. Sega GT might be a copycat, but at least there, the racing is done somewhat well. Gran Turismo's a great driving simulator, as advertised, but it's a boring racing game.
Except it isn't a great driving simulator. There are tons of more realistic games on the PC.
This is part of the reason I'm expecting 4 to be great. I don't like most football games because they aren't good arcade games OR sim games. Just like GT isn't an arcade game nor is it a sim.
What "Euro-only" Wipeout game?Quote:

Not as bad as buying GBA Doom to do that.Quote:

At least GBA Doom is, well, Doom.
I did that for Alpha 3 on the GBA, too. :P I play it, too... damn.Quote:

PSP interest-1
Like 3/4 of the announced games are ports. When did you hear they weren't allowing ports?Quote:

I don't know if anyone replied to this, but, the Game Gear got owned by the Gameboy because the GB was just simply better.Quote:

There were a ton of reasons the Game Gear flopped.
As for the PSP -- Eh. Is anyone really supirsed? Wasn't it at this last E3 that Sony said there would be no ports on the machine, yet the only game playible on the floor was a port of Tales of Destiny? Yeah... Thanks Sony. We know you're trustworthy.
I'm still on the fence about the PSP in general ... I have a feeling, considering the hardware is good in all aspects, that everyone will end up buying one and it will rock in the end, though.
You guys aren't alone. Me too!Quote:

GBA ports at least serve a purpose, in that they are games from an old system that are becoming available to a new crowd or have the nostalgia factor for the old crowd. Some of the PSP ports are the same way, but ports of current ps2 games seem like it's not going to do much for the system.
The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is that the PSP is launching in the same price range as the PS2, but the games will have a significantly lower budget than ps2 games. Why pack in all this hardware power and then create a bottleneck by limiting production funds? Are ps2 ports the only games that are going to use the potential of the system?
Despite my bitching it's a sony system so it will sell no matter what.
sleeveboy, there was a special edition Wipeout released in Europe, essentially a Wipeout collection of the first two games, if memory serves.
Nah, I don't think that'll be the case... I doubt we'll ever see something on the grand scale of, say, Final Fantasy XII hit the small screen, but I think companies will still these PSP games will have a better production value then, say, GBA games.Quote:

Like I said, I don't think it'll be a problem.
You all are acting surprised that Sony would lie about this shit. Sony's job is to generate big enough lies that people who don't know anything or care about games will buy their shit.
Oh, I'm not surprised in the least, just disappointed. Sony's done the job you mentioned quite well in the past, as evidenced by their past industry dominance.
The damn head of SCE said it at or around E3. Please don't take this thread as saying that I am surprised. Apparently, being completely full of shit worked so well at PS2 launch that it is now part of their ongoing plans.Quote:
