I am too, but I only don't because I have no self control whatsoever.

I don't understand drunk. Never been it and I just don't see the need. You guys can have my share, I'm perfectly fine without it.
And that goes for random drugs too. -blah-
James
I drink 3 beers a year.
Just not my thing.
Yeah, same for me. Unless it's some celebration, a toast or I'm just thirsty and there's nothing else, alcohol's usually not in the system. Drugs gets tha "never" stamp imo, like James, dont see the point to it.Quote:

I don't like the taste of alcohol, so I don't drink it... you ain't missing anything.
Im also a non-drinker, its just not my bag, i didnt grow up around anyone who drank, and most of my friends dont drink, and the ones that do seem to only be capable of being happy when drunk. I dont see that as a desireable state to be in, i will stick with caffine as my drug, and just be hyper and jittery.
I drink if I feel like it. No need to get drunk, but being buzzed is a fun feeling.
You don't know what you are missing till you try it, everyone should drink atleast once in their life.
I hardly drink anymore. And no you arent missing anything unless yo like acting a fool, making dumb decissions and hangovers as well as possible liver damage.
I'd drink, but it fucks with my ulcers.
I didn't have my first real drink until about a year ago (red wine at Thanksgiving eight years ago doesn't count). Never been drunk, never plan on being drunk. I sometimes just have a drink when at dinner with friends, or when I'm on vacation, because I like the taste of certain things.
Are you missing anything? Nope, not at all.
What a bunch of pussies.
Wow, I figured there would be more party people here.
I used to drink like an idiot most nights of the week and spent a couple years (the same years my girlfriend was away) doing so. Strangely my grades suffered and because of this I'm still in school. There's something to be said for being lit on two bottles of NightTrain Express and waking up with scratches and bruises that you fail to remember earning. Nothing really good or exciting to be said, mind you, but it's an experience that I treasure.
Now I basically only drink with friends at a bar or during other social events (BBQ, sports event, dinner out). Occasionly the wife and I will pop some wine and get silly but I'm far from the alcoholic I used to be.
Some people aren't into drinking for whatever reason and I can respect that. Are they missing something? Sure. There are a few things that I think everyone should do at some point in their life and getting smashed past any hope of memory is one of them.
Really? I kinda assumed there'd be a lot of non-drinkers here. In my experience dorks tend to drink a lot less than most people.Quote:

There's something to be said against people who think it's impossible to have a good time without drinking, but with the right company (small parties with close friends being ideal), drinking can make a great night even more fun.
That said, I think people who swear off any amount of alcohol altogether are missing out as well. Considering one side of my family is 100% Italian, we always had red wine at family get-togethers, and though it took me until I got a bit older to really appreciate it, some meals just aren't the same without a good wine to go with it. And considering I have no trouble getting served at most chain restaurants, it's nice to have a beer with a meal when you're out to treat yourself once in a while.
eh drinking isn't for everyone. And even if it is for you, I don't advacate drinking for the sake of getting drunk a lot. But everyone does need drink untill they start seeing funny.
You really take the world around you for grantid sometimes. Sometimes it is nice to walk home drunk out of your mind and look at the world. Little things look a lot different. Something as simple as a porch light becomes wonderful.
On a side note, did you know some highschools don't lock their doors, BUT have touch sensors on doors? You do some weird shit while drunk. NOT that I ever did something like that ;)
I have no idea what you just said x2y.

I suggest drinking something tasty, maybe 5-6 beers or vodka and oranges or whatever to get an idea of whats in store for you should you decide to drink, and what you're missing out on if not. It'll get you buzzed, but not acting stupid drunk. It feels way cooler than you probably think.
When I hit the piss, its usually shooting spirits and drinking VB's (best beer ever). Drink spirits alone = taste of cleaning products in your mouth, drink beer alone = taste of catshit in your mouth, drinking both balances it out.
Depends on the liquor or the beer. Yeah, drinking a case of Beast will probably make anything else taste good, but I don't mind drinking nothing but Yuengling or Sam Adams on a given night. Though, when you drink enough beer to get a good buzz going, anything can get tiring, even if it does normally taste pretty good.Quote:

I never drink alcohol. I have all the "fun" I need to as is, so I don't see the need.
Real men don't mix vodka with oranges. If you want an orange then eat one. If you're trying to mask the taste of alcohol, then you shouldn't be drinking it at all unless you're a woman.Quote:

Also, real men don't season their meat, and when they want chocolate, they eat the seeds straight from a cacao pod.

and I don't think there are any spirits I actually like the taste of, I've spoiled the ones I used to like with ...um ...bad experiences (I used to drink vodka straight from the bottle, but now, ugh).
I only get lit before and after basketball or football games here. So I guess that would be...20-25 times a year? :p
As far as drinks, my favorite is sake bombs in Kirin by far. Smoothest fastest way I can get drunk. At games it's mostly a combination of cheap beer and jack & coke.
I used to drink quite a bit - not so much anymore. Instead of putting away a six-pack of Amber Bock a night, I might just have one or two.
I'm a social drinker. But I can hold my own.
A week ago, had 3 shots of Jose Cuervos, and 3 shots of Bacardi 151s along with a bottle of Labatt Blue.
Eh, I do my fair share of drinking, needle drugs are where it's at though.
I'm with AstroBlue and Tracer on this one.
I used to be a straight edge non-drinker for a long time, until I went away to college. I can't even remember my reasons for not drinking anymore, if that tells you anything at all.
Drinking at parties is a lot of fun... until you overdo it, that is. ug. I HATE the taste of alcohol, beer especially, but it's really effective as a means to an end. A lot of times I'll chase hard liquors with cranberry juice, but there are those times where there's none of that stuff around and ya gotta just gag on it for a while.
There are those people where drinking just isn't their thing, and there's nuthin' wrong with that at all. But If you're looking to shed your geek-dork image and blossom into a slightly less nerdy butterfly, social drinking is the perfect place to start.
I find being drunk one of the most depressing things I've ever done. You know you're drunk and stupid but you can't help yourself. I never enjoyed it. And technically it's a depressent. If you're going to get drunk it's a good idea to be asleep as you sober up. You don't want the experience of sobering while awake.
I've learned that most people who do drink don't like the idea of it either. But they have to do it to socialize and fit in so they bow to the pressure. Then there are those who say it's something you have to do to prove youself or be tough or some bullshit. I always found this attitude incredibly base and ignorant. The heaviest drinkers these days are women! Enough said!
So to conclude, are you missing anything? No. If you haven't had alcohol before now, then it's probably not your thing. Try it if you like, but I reckon you shouldn't bother. Besides, I can't see how anyone with even the most rudimentary knowledge of neurobiology can stand to drink alcohol.
Beers are the foulest-tasting things in the world, I've tried many to make sure it wasn't an isolated incident, but even the best was barely tolerable. I'd rather french kiss a manhole than drink most beers.
More straight alcoholic beverages are better, but still not particularly pleasing. I know it's not a manly notion, but I much prefer stuff that's more flavor than alcohol, wine coolers and Hard Mike's Lemonade I enjoy.
You're not missing much. The only reason I ever drank was to get girls drunk.
Smoking crack is better for you than needle drugs. Nothing like smoking the ghetto cheese and snapping some necks on pandora tommorow.Quote:

Doubt I'll ever have more than an occasional wine with a good steak or something.
There are alot of points on either topic. Although I think that people who say that you cannot have fun unless your drinking are stupid (I have a few friends like this) I really don't care.
I use to drink a fair ammount (drunk every weekend and a few beers a night). I stoped having fun while drunk. I got to the point of depression and anger when drunk, so I cut back. Then I just felt like mush. Beer and what not cost alot of money (especially at clubs and restraunts). So I just "stopped" drinking. Ocassionaly I will get tipsy off of some wine if I am in the right company, or durring holidays, but I pretty much don't drink.
Anything in excess is bad for you.
I got a 12-pack of beer and still have ten left. The taste is just...far too nasty for my liking, not the least bit refreshing either.
About a year ago I drank a few shots of Jagermeister, spiced rum, a glass of wine and probably some other stuff I don't remember. I don't remember getting drunk or even tipsy, but I still puked my guts out the following morning. I'll never do that again. Though I do enjoy beer, and some other stuff. I guess beer is just an acquired taste.
I drank almost a whole bottle of Tequila while I was on ecstacy and I think I have a hole in my heart now.
I stopped drinking a lot after I graduated from college. I'm not sure where I even got all the money to drink with.
I might have a few drinks when I go out with the boys on Friday night, but that's it. My girlfriend hardly drinks at all.
I don't drink at all. It is a waste of money IMHO, especially here in NYC where it is like $5 for coke and $8 for beer. No thanks.
Only started drinking about 2 years ago. There are benefits and drawbacks to it. All I gotta say is do it responsibly.
A month ago I gave up drinking entirely, but I didn't touch an alcoholic beverage until I was 22. Although I liked alcohol, I didn't know my limits, so I stopped. Very short career.
Exactly. Everything in moderation.Quote:

If I got out, which these days is rare, I'll have a few drinks. If I'd really like a drink, maybe every few months or so, I'll go to the liquor store and buy a small bottle of whatever. Special occasions, too. But beer is nasty, so no beer.
Alcohol, like most things, is good in moderation. Just don't be an idiot about it.
I drink frequently, but infrequently go overboard. I'm usually very casual about drinking. Beers often with a good meal, good friends, roommates, people you just met. It does help loosen me up quite a bit, get me talking, but as a quiet person it isn't to a fault. I should note that I rarely feel that I *need* to drink, and often choose to stay completely sober on nights when everyone else is drinking.
I'd appreciate red wine more, though it has the tendency to put me to sleep.
drinking is for pussies..
its all about the ganja
I don't see a problem with drinking casually because you enjoy wine or a beer. Drinking to get drunk happens to make me believe that individual has low self confidence and can only be happy when they are in a state they are no longer in control of.

I like to drink. When its within easy access to me Ill drink like a fiend. Ive drank in the morning, before class (like, 30 minutes before class begins, take six shots of rum), by myself, etc. Some would call me an alcoholic based on this, shoot I would too. But hey what can you do.
But when its not within easy access to me, I just wont do it. I mean yea I can just drive to the store if I wanted some beer but Id rather not bother. Ive drank one time during the entire summer break, with friends.
As for the beer vs. hard alcohol, Ill take beer any day.
This quote happens to make me believe you are an idiot. Im perfectly happy at all hours of the day, whether Im sober, drunk, high (yes, I also smoke the ganja maruchan), sleeping, whatever.Quote:

edit: some people have said they like to drink or smoke weed before they listen to music. Does anyone else do this? I admit Ive tried it and found it takes away from the joyous experience of taking in the art of song.
"Buncha slack-jawed faggots around here. This stuff'll make you a godamned sexual Tyrannosaurus...just like me..."
I drink at least three times a week. If you don't like the taste of beer you're either buying thee wrong beer or only having a few sips of one. Beer is an aquired taste and when you find your beer of choice you'll know. Alcohol is lots of fun too but vodka sucks. Its either rum or whiskey [rye or scotch are good too]. Mixed drinks are nice from time to time but nothing is better than a nice stiff double on the rocks.
My roommate last year used to do this. Get high anyways. His rational was that it made him retarded enough to enjoy anything, so he'd end up listening to random crappy music or watching bad movies that he wouldn't enjoy otherwise, and then he'd spend the next day checking everything out again to confirm that they actually sucked.Quote:

I don't drink. That's not to say that I haven't EVER had alcohol in my life. I have, but very, very little (shot of tequila at a party that was unavoidable, wine at new years and the rare special occasions, etc.) and I never particularly liked the taste either.
I have been around friends who were all drinking, and even with that pressure didn't drink myself. Personally, I love to just observe how drunk some of them get. I know I wouldn't be able to truly appreciate that if I were drunk myself. And boy, do I have stories I could tell because of it.
Plus, I am in too much of a need to be in control of myself at all times to even risk getting drunk. Not so much a fear of losing control as it is a need to be in control. Especially if everyone else is drinking; I mean, someone has to be the responsible one.
But I never stop anyone else from doing it. Just because I refrain from it doesn't mean I look down on anyone else who does. I've actually gotten plenty of respect from people when I tell them that I don't drink, so that encourages me to continue to do it.
So I might be a dork/nerd for not drinking, but I'm that same dork/nerd who saw how you shat yourself last night, while you wondered why your pants were stuck to your ass.

I started drinking the middle of my freshmen year in college. I quickly went from non-drinker to drunken animal (sobered up at summer actually). Why did I decide to drink? Easy, women. I drank to get women. It gave me a reason to go out to parties and dance with drunken women. I tried before to go out, but I could never have fun sober hitting on wasted girls. So I joined them, and it was great. Unfortunetly, first semester m sophmore year I had to be carried to the hospital after I drank too much vodka. A night in a hospital bed and having my stomach pumped (not to mention a fucking cathoder) and I have decided the whole getting drunk thing is not for me. I still drink a few beers on the ocasion, and I even did a shot of tequila in celebration of my good friends 21st this weekend, but not drunk. I used to get to the point where I would actually black out and have to get reports of what happened the night before. I actually somehow hought this was fun and people generally really seemed to like me when I was drunk. Staying sober in my school is a really hard thing to do. Luckily ive met a girl who doesnt really like to drink and Im hoping it will make it easier to avoid these situations.
I havn't drank in almost 2 years, in moderation I think it's not a bad thing to do and a way to help have a good time (in moderation meaning not getting drunk to the level where you're no longer in control). To me drinking is just getting to act stupid for a few hours, pass out for 9 hours and wake up and be horribly sick the whole rest of the next day.

One thing I've learned from College is that you have to drink with the right people. I'd rather be drunk with five or six good friends, listening to music and playing a drinking game than at a big party.
But then again, my roommate/best friend at school doesn't drink at all and can still have a good time. It really all just depends on the person.
Me too as far as where I like drinking. I don't dig bars, don't go clubbing, and don't go to big parties. My favorite place to get pissed is while outdoors, camping or something like that... anything with a nice good fire and the nightsky above me. Drinking can be a real pleasure at those times. I don't get the "social drinker" scene... what a load of shit. Maybe I'm missing something in that regard but eh fuck it.Quote:

I'm split here. I don't like drinking and listening to music, I agree that it takes away from the experience. However smoking can enhance the greatness of really great music if you ask me. The down side is that it'll make you think that bad music is good. But I definitely don't think it takes anything away from it.Quote:

I dont drink. I don't care if anyone else does, I just don't drink. I get enough headaches in my life to ever consider drinking on a regular basis. plus, i don't really need it.
Having said that, though, I will someday go on such a fucking bender that people will tell their grandkids about it. I know it will happen, I've always known it. Just have to have the right things happen to me to set it off. I await it patiently.
I've only had alcohol a few times in my life. For the most part I didn't like it so I don't drink.
I used to think Vodka sucked. Then I got around to having Grey Goose.
I drink 5 days a week. I get drunk 1 - 2 times a week and on scheduled days. Wednesdays and some Fridays. Todays Wednesday (though far to early to be calling it Beerday which is what it becomes at 10pm CST).

Hah, well - I'm more inclined to get drunk in that type of environment... there's a purity there that makes drinking alot more pleasurable and uninhibited. I wrote something about Agora however in the 'Clubs' thread, thats probably the one place I can think of thats a social atmosphere where I don't mind getting bladdered.
I'm not a drinker and never will be, I got slightly tipsy once but never again!
Been 2 years now and I've always been sober since then. Being drunk is just a nuisance.
It's no fun being drunk if your friends are sober, and vice versa.
I can get right sideways on occasion, and really have fun, but I know my limits. I could live without alcohol, though, and I often go months without drinking a drop.
Here is where I draw the line on drinking: Sitting at home and getting drunk by yourself (and you're not reacting to a traumatic event).
I drank a bottle of whiskey when I had a really bad tooth ache. Does that count?Quote:

Actually, I've found the exact opposite. Since anything is more enjoyable when you're weeded, all my favorite songs become even more awesome and even songs that I don't normally like all that much are semi-entertaining. Maybe it just depends on what kind of music you're listening to.Quote:
