Could anyone link me to another thread, or answer here. Any help is appreciated.
I'm looking to mod my PS2, and have these questions:
-Do you know any places in the LA county are that sell/install?
-Which is the best-bet chip out there?
-Do any places sell PS2s with chip already installed?
-Are swap discs just as effective/reliable as mod chips?
-I heard talk of a USB-mod dealie from someone before...is that even true/feasable?

I'd like to know the differences between the chips, myself. Matt PMed me a while back on it, but the crash killed my old PMs, so I have no more reference.
I'm looking to play both import PSX and PS2 games. Playing other formats would be a bonus (other DVD regions, media file formats, etc.), but I don't care. I wanna play my old import Beatmania and DDR games, plus whatever new IIDX, shooters, and other fun stuff I can find.
What's the best chip for that?

Another vote for Matt (and the DMS3 as well). The DMS3 does a lot of thing that are pretty useful NOW, and could be very useful in the future. And since I onlyy want to do it once, might as well future-proof it.
For me the ability to burn .avi images on a disc and watch them on the PS2 (through the Media Player app) was a major selling point. I've heard the compatible Genesis emu runs well, but I'm not sure if that's anything specific to DMS3. Haven't had the time to try it out myself. The fact that you can flash it through a CD for future features/updates is also really neat.
I can vouch for the SNES emu working great as well, but i'm pretty sure emus have nothing to do with your chip.Quote:

Mmk, the "compatible." That could even be derogatory/limiting in that emus have to work properly with/on it. I'm not pushing anything, just trying to inform them. Modchip animosity can be such an ugly thing. Let's have none of it, eh?

You can get a modded universal PS2 from www.toysnjoys.com for $259 + shipping. That's the best deal I've found on the net for a new modded system, they're usually $300+ at most places. I'm not sure what chip they use, but you could just email and ask.

Every movie I've burned to a CDR has run flawlessly through the PS2 Reality Media Player.
But, my brother said he tried to run DVD-Rs with anime episodes on it, and that they stuttered.
A judge ruled mod chips to be illegal in England, I believe.
But thank the Lord we dont live in that hell hole, right?
Actually, IIRC, the judge ruled that modchips are illegal to use...but you can legally buy/sell them. Confusing Indeed.
I know this is a little off topic, but I was at a game store called F/X games. They carry a few import games here and there and older games for systems like the Neo-Geo, 3DO and TG-16.
Anyways.....
This guy Shawn, noticed that I was checking out the more obscure stuff like the Jaguar, Dreamcast and Saturn software and we started chatting. He asked if I liked shooters. I told him: "Yeah, I do. I bought Border Down from your store several months ago." It turns out that I bought the last copy of the game they had and that he was hoping to buy it. He was cool with the fact that the game at least was bought by someone who would appreciate it as well. He pulls out a copy of Gradius V. He's all hyped up about playing it and asked if I wanted to see the game. I said: sure. He said: Cool, I just need to install this flip top and I can show it to you. It really did'nt dawn on me, that he was modding a PS2, with a flip-top mod to do so. I looked behind the counter about 10 minutes later and he's unscrewing the casing on a PS2 and he has the mod kit and instructions layed out. I then realised what he was referring to, when he said he had to install the flip-top. Needless to say, I did'nt hang around to check out the game, but told the guy I'd check it out some time later.
Cool store. It's nice to find obscure places like this, that actually have people behind the counter who enjoy the gaming hobby, as much as I do.
I trashed my ps2 trying to solder the duo2se to the microscopic mother board of the ps2. I thought It would be as easy as modding the x-box unfortunately It's not. I order a premodded ps2 with the matrix Infinity chip( the only glaring difference between the Matrix Infinity and the DMS3 Is that the Matrix Infinity Is a self boot chip( you don't have to tell the PS2 what's In the drive. The DSM3 you have to press the corresponding button to tell the ps2 to boot a dvd, ps2, ps1 disc.
I have a Messiah 2 installed in mine. It doesn't do anything fancy, as far as I know, but I've never had any problems/incompatibilities.
Time for me to mod both the PS2 and X-Box, and I'm really not interested in learning to solder right this very second, and if I was I wouldn't want to inflict my n00b-ness on my poor consoles. So- who to send them to, with quick turnaround being a plus. I'll miss them while they're gone but it's time to get it over with.
So, any advice? :)

So here's the story:
I buy the DMS3 mod and get it in the mail. Tonight dad opens the PS2 to get cracking. I checked DMS's website for instructions, etc. beforehand. I check, double, and triple checked for my system version (v4 by all accounts). When dad opens it, the board looks nothing like the one the site's photos use to help with installation. Damn! Plus the on-site instructions are rather vague and hard to follow, esp. with the crappy photos.
So...Three things:
One, is there a definative place with proper mod install instructions for the DMS3 on a v4 system?
Two, does anyone know where I could send this to get installed with rush service? I want this out in one day, there the same or the next, and back the next or day after.
Three, should I cut my losses and go the pre-modded route? Even if my dad gets proper manuals/photos, he seems wary of messing around so many tiny contact points. Plus this way, I could have two PS2s - a mod and non-mod - and sell the DMS3 chip (hasn't left the static bag yet).
So, I'm at your mercy. Help a gamer out!
