TV Shopping Time

Yo. I've been looking around for TV's recently and I wanted to get some opinions from the videophiles on what you guys think is a good setup for me. What I'm looking for is-

-27in display. For my small room, it's the most I need.
-Component Inputs are a must.
-Progressive scan is a plus.

How much am I willing to spend? Yikes, considering my current, shitty income, $500 or less. If I get a job where I think I might be getting a job, possibly a little more. I know that progressive scan is most likely out of reach for my price mark but what do I know.

What ever you do, check out the picture quality personally.
A lot of manufacturers use low quality masks on their CRTs that result in jagged pixel rows (sawtooth pattern on top and bottom edge of screen is a dead giveaway) and inconsistent brightness.
Panasonic and JVC are generally good, Sony is hit and miss, and Zenith, Toshiba, Samsung, and Hitachi are generally poor. Not too sure about other makes.

do yourself a favor and avoid toshiba and sanyo tvs, as far as reliability goes kedawa is right, JVC pretty much tops them all. I'm not sure about the technical details you want though, haven't bought a tv in a couple years.

You might as well go for an HDTV at this point, I've heard good things about the 26" widescreen Samsung set. It's pretty cheap and if you watch a lot of DVDs or play Xbox quite often, you'll really enjoy it.

I got a nice little 27" Emerson with front input, two back inputs, and component for about 200 dollars. It's a flat one, too, so not as much nasty glare.

You can't beat the price, I'm telling you. If you want to save money, this is the ultra-budget (but not terrible) component TV to go for.

If you don't want HDTV, there's a "no-name" brand they sell at Best Buy that uses JVC or Panasonic picture tubes. I bought the 23" and it's been okay. I just need to buy new component cables because the red keeps shorting out. Oh yeah, the point of that sentence being don't buy the blue cables they sell at Best Buy.

I got a killer entertainment center for 25 bucks, a Walmart TV for under 200, and a half-sized fridge for 70. Bargain entertainment at its finest.

Oh yeah, the main use of this thing would be to play xbox games. I'm sick of Riddick looking like beautiful ass :(

I hate Wallmart, but you may be able to find it elsewhere.
