Great, My friggin power supply just died !!! - Ok, Fixed It !!!

Well, Everything was going well, dj was sitting on my pc, working with his 3d program, and I was on my wife's Mac.

Then, I had to step out of the room, and I heard that my pc shutdown, and dj was calling me. He told me that pc just shutdown, and he cant boot it up again.

I am pretty sure its power supply problem. Light on motherboard still on, and so is the light for Ethernet card. When you press Power button, some power gets in, as side fan that I have on the side wall of the case spins a bit, but thats about it. Nothing else gets the power.

Fuck, last thing I needed now.

Oh well, I guess I will have to stop by BestBuy or CC tomorrow and get new power supply. Shit :(

That sucks man. Mine blew up right in my face (literally) two summers back, about three weeks before college semester was kicking in.

Make sure you get a power supply that is big enough for your tower. You don't want your tower demanding more juice than it can receive.

You may aswell whack in a psu with a alot of power as the new generation of cards are just needing more and more juice...

if it was a dead psu you wouldnt get the mobo and nic lights to turn on.....because ummmm, how would they get power?

Yeah, that doesn't sound like a dead PSU. I've had the same problem before but I can't remember how the hell I fixed it. :(

From what I read on subject (since I never had to deal with that before), some power gets into PC even if PSU completely dead. I dont know exactly how, but it done. Thats why your E/t card light stays on, even when your pc is shutdown.

I will do more research on the subject today though.

If it's just nic leds in the back, it's probably powered by the onboard battery. :S

Ok, stoped by BestBuy on the way home yesterday, and picked up new PSU. Went with more watt power, just in case if my old one wasnt enough for all the shit I packed into my pc since the time I built it.

Had to take almost all of the hardware out of the case, before I could get the old PSU out, but then installing the new one, was much easier :)

Connected all the plugs and let it run, and it worked. Runs a bit quieter too, but still with 2 additional fans I have in my case, the damn thing still pretty loud, but we got used to the noise over the years :)

Glad to have it working.
