The RNC begins tomorrow. Already, it looks like there's some action going on in NYC: raging nude protestors, and flaming gay activists.
My only thoughts so far: McCain is a whore. What the hell is he doing there? His career should be over.

I like that Zell Miller, my favorite Democrat, will be giving a keynote address.
I don't care about McCain. Swell guy and I respect his service, but he's our Zell Miller-light that at times is used by the media to beat up on the rest of the party. Not to mention the campaign finance reform he partly sponsored is a blatant attack on political free speech. There's less and less that I agree with him on.
Only thing, they need to make sure the guy that'll be handling the balloon dropping doesn't have a live CNN microphone near him. As long as they can pull that off without a hitch, it'll be fine. We don't need a repeat of this incident.

It bans ads within 60 days of a general election that are paid for by outside groups that identify a particular candidate. If I or my group wanna put out an ad in the final days of an election, I can't do it. Activist groups on both sides sued to get such provisions declared unconstitutional, but failed in the Supreme Court (a close 5-4 decision mind you).

I hate protestors of all flavors. The idiots down in the Belmont Shore section of Long Beach set up shop in front of the Washington Mutual and shout at each other. When he inherited NYC from Dinkins, it was a shithole. Total shithole. Now its the best city in the world, bar none. The city went from like 1200 murders a year to about 500, and Times Square ceased to be a rotting pit for junkies and homeless people (the mayor of Santa Monica should ask Rudy for some advice). Are terrorists really that much of a problem where it should be the only thing Americans vote on? I don't really see a gigantic threat from the terrorists; I actually think we ARE safer now, though I don't know about being secure. Security is a big illusion, anyway, because you could step out onto the street today and get hit by a cement truck. I saw 9/11 happen and I know it was real and I don't think it was engineered by some liberal's fantasy scapegoat, I just don't think we're in danger. Moreover, I don't really care if we are - more important to me is that this country does not become a place where common sense gets tossed out the window for "the way it ought to be" morons who think that banning stuff fixes it.
Republicans and conservatives can be great people, and it's stupid to group them all together just like it's stupid to group all Dems and liberals together. In fact, I think Republicans make the best state governors. However, the Bush Administration caters to the above-mentioned people and the Republican platform this year divides Republicans just as much as Democrats are apart from one another. Truth be told, despite Al Gore and Dubya's love-fest in 2000, I think THAT was a much better election year. This year sucks.
And maybe Kerry will mess things up, too, but at least he's not pandering to people whom I don't think have the best interests of the country in mind. If he messes us up, eff him too and vote him out of office in 2008.

I watched the DNC, and I'm watching RNC.
I find it funny that ABC and NBC covered DNC, but I have to watch CNN, FOX News, and KCET for the RNC. None of the major networks are covering it. I know ABC has Monday Night Football now, but still...what prime program do the major networks have that would gain cause to completely snub one convention and embrace the other?
Or like the whole protest thing. Day one people were reported to be in mass in the 'hundreds of thousands.' Today its 'tens of thousands' - I never understood why news stations love to make protests that are mathematically a small percent of the population seem like an uprising of the masses.
And overall? MoveOn blows. Swift Boats blows. I don't think Bush is a nazi, and I don't give a damn about what Kerry did in Vietnam. I want to know what these two men are gonna do with their place in power, given that they gain the office in November. Bush's record is so far hit-and-miss with me. I like the fact that he drives hard to get things done, unflinchingly; I don't like his ideas on banning gay marriage in the Constitution (like he could make it happen). I like the 'no child left behind' initiative he started...only to leave it behind. In a nutshell, for each thing I agree with or find that the man does well, he does something else I don't agree with.
Kerry...scares the hell out of me. I don't like his voting record, the bills he's tried to pass or has endorsed, and I especially don't like the fact that the man, on the record, appears to be a tantamount liar. He says whatever he needs in the audience in front of him to garner respect. And that just sends a chill up my spine.

The problem with Giuliani was that he was becoming really unpopular near the end of his second term. His hard-line tactics were great for cleaning up Times Square and the subway system, but he went too far with more minor issues (ex., illegally releasing juvenile records to discredit a suspected criminal), which lead to a low approval rating before 9/11.
Yes, he was starting to get unpopular in the end, and he certainly could have loosened up a bit, but you can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs.
Things have slipped back a bit with Bloomberg (I see some homeless in the streets again), but so far he's managed to maintain the status quo pretty well.
