If you can find it, get dnL. It's Surge with a new name & label. Tastes exactly the same.Quote:

Mountain Dew really suprised me when they released Code Red and it didn't suck. Then They follow up with Livewire and Pitch Black, arguably the best commercial orange and grape sodas.
If I still drank soda, I would be all over this new sour one; Mountain Dew can do no wrong, I'm sure it kicks ass.
I really didn't care for the Pitch Black last year... maybe the sourness will change my mind. Here's how I'd chart them out:
Live Wire > Cherry-Vanilla Dr Pepper > Baja Blast (lime Mountain Dew only available at Taco Bell, for those who don't know) >> regular Mountain Dew >> regular Dr Pepper > diet Sprite (don't care for the regular, oddly enough) >>> most other sodas on the market >> Pitch Black from last year >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Code Red Cough Syrup
I don't like Livewire, but then again, I don't really dig orange soda, outside of brands that contain a good amount of juice, like Polar Orange Dry, European Fanta when I can get it, though Orangina is my favorite above all. As far as grape sodas go, I'm disgusted by most here too, with the notable exception of Boylan's, which is very good. I think the balance of grape with the other flavors is what makes Pitch Black good to me. Wish they'd bottle Baja Blast. I love Taco Bell, but I always know I'm gonna get sick after eating there, so I can never fully enjoy my Baja Blast. :( Funny note: We already adopted the term "Baja Blast" for Taco Bell-induced diarrhea, but when the foreign kids stayed in our building this summer, we took them out one night and Jesper informed us that "baja" means "shit" in Swedish, so hey, we were right on target, just in a different language. Great soda, gross stories surrounding aside.Quote:

Next thing you know, 7-11 yanked it from their soda fountain. It's getting scarcer and scarcer and we couldn't figure out why. I go home for 2 weeks and I see it around, but in small quantities everywhere. We were kinda freaked, because it's a favorite of ours. When Pitch Black II landed, I noticed that it had the new Mountain Dew logo, and Code Red still didn't. We got concerned.
Yesterday, we not only found Code Red in abundance in Boston again, we found it with the new label, and in my building's convenience store. It was a good day.
Oh, and Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper is worthless. Still not different enough from or as good as regular Dr. Pepper, which is why Dr. Pepper spinoffs fail. I just don't feel like it's very distinctive, and what's worse is that the diet is the most prevalent variety. I didn't even know there was a non-diet one in bottled form until I went back to PA, I had only seen the non-diet in cans. I drank each kind once and saw no reason to grab another after giving them an initial shot. I liked Dr. Pepper Red Fusion better, and that wasn't even that interesting, it just tasted like Dr. Pepper with too much syrup in the mix.
Too bad we couldn't get Mr. Pibb back. Pibb Xtra is pretty weak, but the original Mr. Pibb was great.
...uh, anyway, like I said in the 22 cent beer thread, I have a thing for novelty sodas. I have two bottles and a can of Pepsi Holiday Spice in my fridge, it's only a matter of time til I crack them open.
No way man, Surge with a new name is called Vault .Quote:

Code Red: Fantastic stuff.
Baja Blast: I saw Baja Blast a year back or so. It tastes absolutely awful.
Pitch Black: I've been looking for this ever since Revenge of the Sith. I want to try it, something fierce.
Livewire: My still all time favorite of the Dews. Why won't they bring it back (or, if it's still out, why can't I find it in the SE?)
AAAAAAAAAAAARG wtf is with the regional soda thing? I want some fucking Vault! I hope it goes national.Quote:
