I don't know of real recent, but Black Star is great. Outkast is good and all of their albums are varied. I haven't heard anything really good in the past few years.

Just to name a few. If your are at all into hip hop you'll find something you like. I hate it when people take it as though hip hop is all garbage when they are only looking at the surface (mianstream, MTV & radio), but I guess that can be said about any genre in music.

Brisco, you should know that I see some pretty stupid customers at the EB I frequent every couple weeks or so. The last time I went was to put money down for Fable, and there were a bunch of gangster arab kids to my left climbing a ladder one of the employees was using to put PC games away. They were screaming and vanting and being idiots on the ladder, while the others tugged at it, joking that he'd fall or something, calling each other y'haras (like pig in Arab).

That was sad.

And to my right, there was a Madden 2Kx demo stand and there was this tall [also gangster] black kid playing vigorously on it, and he'd punch it every time something bad happened to his crummy ass team. Me and the cashier we're just standing there like "wtf is wrong with these people".

There are alot of genuinely nice and polite people out there, but theyr'e really shadowed by all the idiots that follow. It's less a nussiance of just black morons, like Gibbits said, its everywhere. And I find less so where I live since it majors particularly in Italians, Arabs, THEN blacks. We're a pretty small minority, and of who stands, we're not some psychopathic gangster that'll shoot you on sight. This is a good thread to enlighten this situation on.

I think finding a better word would behoove us, though. "Nigger" has such a deep-rooted hold as a very derogatory term for black people, I really don't like to use it.

Personally, I just refer to them as "the masses." They're all "niggers" to me.

I hope you don't think I'm saying that in a racist context. the whole "Nigger" or "Thug" lifestyle prides themselves on being called niggers. I personnally see calling a thug a nigger [regardless of race] no different than calling sonmeone with blue hair and a spike collar a punk. I know it has deep rooted past in racism, but I think the word has evolved in a way - I know not everyone thinks so.

And this whole rant describes alot of white people I've known to. The kind you'd call "acting black", but really they're all just acting stupid. It's not really a black or white thing.

And really the fact that they're from the suburbs only makes it so much worse. If they grew up in NYC it would be more understandable but no more acceptable. I'm from a poor inner city area, and I never acted like that.

This is a good thread. I agree that it goes beyond races -- its whether or not people have respect for strangers. Case in point, the other day a 40-ish white woman saw me (a 23 year old white man) using both hands to carry a huge computer tower out of my apartment complex. She looked directly at me as I was going down the stairwell a few paces behind her, but when we got to the exit door did she hold it open for me? Hell no, she let it slam closed practically right in my face. I could not believe the ignorance that woman exhumed. I was infuriated and wanted to scream at her, but I restrained myself because I have more respect for strangers than she apparently does.

Bottom line: People need to respect each other more.
