Radiata Stories - now with some scans

Thanks to GAF (neo2046):

Appearently an upcoming Famitsu will have a bunch of pages concerning this.

ps: as discovered at that board, the redirect works for all tri-ace pages and images so I wouldn't expect to discover any hidden treats just yet.

Even though I used to love the stuff... I don't like character designs like this and Tales of Symphonia anymore. They aren't true SD, but they still have those "anime proportions." Still, if it's good, I'll check it out.

Looks like a graphically weaker Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles. It is Tri Ace, so maybe it'll play better.

I dunno, they look good to me. They're a little less readily identifiable than most, I suppose, but they seem to have a certain unifying design element to them, like they're actually from the same world, rather than many RPGs where the characters are so outlandishly and differently designed that if you saw them outside of the context of the game, you wouldn't necessarily guess the designs were related. I think it makes it a little more believable in that way.

Reminds me alot of FF:CC's style. Can't wait to see what they did for the battle system on this one.

The mere mention of Tri-Ace and Nippon Ichi gets me excited and so of course, I am excited to hear a new game from them. I can't view the screenshots right now due to Bess, but I will indeed take a look once I get home.

150 characters? ... Hrm...

Noriyuki Iwadare was just named as the composer. Should have a good soundtrack then.

I dunno, Iwadare went very glam rock/keyboard solo heavy in SO3. Some tracks were notable but it's his weakest game soundtrack IMO.

I've heard the gameply is somewhat akin to Valkyrie Profile as well, with all characters having a signature finisher and combo capability with other chars.

Sakuraba did SO3 and all of T-A's other games (and all of their old games back at Wolfteam, too in fact. He's been with them from the very beginning).

I'm a big Sakuraba fan. I found him a little hit or miss when working with PSOne hardware but his current gen, SNES, and redbook stuff was always fantastic. Iwadare is still a great composer though, so I dunno how I feel about the switch.

Also, there is no way that SO3 is Sakuraba's weakest soundtrack. He's seriously done over 70 games (as well as like 10 TV series). He's probably the most prolific composer in the industry, and he's had a few misses.

Frog, I am mistaken. You're right, Sakuraba did Tri-Ace's stuff. Iwadare did Grandia.

Famitsu review score of 10/9/8/9 (36/40). Not bad.
It's rare for them to give a game at least one 10 and have it
end up being a turd. So that's promising.

I've preordered my Japanese copy, which is released Jan 27th.
I'll post impressions once I have it, and a detailed review a few weeks
after that. Anyone else getting the Japanese version?

I've heard the USA version should come out summer/fall 2005. Good to see this one will get translated.

I heard there's no word on a US release.

I heard it better come out here or I'll be very sad. :(

A guy named Kouli on the gamefaqs board just posted today the USA localization is due to be finished sometime this summer/fall. He's usually quite accurate with his info, but I guess it's not official yet. I'd be really surprised if Square-enix doesn't bring this one over.

Right about the approx. US release date, but wrong about this being a good game.:lol: It's really average and not much fun. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

I have seen a couple of trailers to this game and it actually looks really good. Blueskied, what didn't you like about the game?

The fighting system is very simplistic and rather dull (you only control the main character, how lame!). The storyline is very dull as well. Nothing really seems to happen then boom, you're at the final boss. Bleh. I'd really suggest either passing on this one or just renting it, there's much better stuff out there.

well EGM reviewed this game & got 7.5 straight across I think

If they can improve NPC AI, I'd actually prefer to have the computer control all of my teammates. If gives those characters more of a feeling of being "alive" if they are doing things on their own.

Of course, the problem with Star Ocean:TTEOT was that sometimes your teammates would act like morons. As well, the selections each character had for personality types were far too limited. It shouldn't be so hard to simply have one character act like a proper (and semi-intelligent) healer.

This would then be tied in to some sort of "relationship" meter. For example, if I save one particular character more than the others when they are being attacked, they would be more willing to risk themselves when I need the help and whatnot.
