Sega & THQ reveal 3 more NEW games for the GBA!

The following is an excerpt from the press release sent out by THQ and Sega. I have confirmed the information thanks to inspecting the press release myself... so its confirmed!

The next round of Game Boy Advance games scheduled to be published by THQ and SEGA include the following:

THE REVENGE OF SHINOBI -- An action-packed side-scroller, THE REVENGE OF SHINOBI immerses players in a feudal Japanese world where they must employ their Ninja skills to recapture five legendary swords.

ALTERED BEAST: GUARDIAN OF THE REALMS -- Based on the arcade classic, players morph into a variety of beasts to battle enemies and bosses via hand-to-hand combat and magical attacks.

SPACE CHANNEL 5 -- Based on the hit Dreamcast game, players step into the role of ace reporter Ulala who scoops the story for Space Channel 5 as hip-hopping aliens zap citizens into a hypnotic dance trance.

Hopefully The Revenge of Shinobi will be more than a straight
port of the Genesis game of the same name. Being a long time Shinobi fan though, this is still great news.

Oooooo.......... I LOVE SEGA! I LOVE GBA! Sonic, Phantasy Star, Puyo Pop, ChuChu, Super Monkey Ball, Space Channel 5........ the goodness never ends! This is too cool. :)

Yeah i read about it earlier today. For the Revenge of SHinobi port, I hope they opt for high quality music and low quality sound rather than high quality sound and low quality music since the music is one of the best parts of that game.

What about that first collection (with Ecco, Golden Axe, and some other game)? Has it been released? If not, then when will it?

Is this a new Altered Beast game?

Damn, I was hoping it'd not just be a port of Revenge of Shinobi. We're never gonna get an original action platformer of that caliber on the GBA I suspect.

Oh yeah, RoS is even better than the it's Genesis sequel, contrary to popular opinion.

Hell yeah!! The music in RoS is some of the best, if not THE best Genesis music. Funny how the newer Genesis games sound worse than the older ones. And I think RoS is just a 4 or 5 meg game. Great graphics, amazing sound. I can't wait to buy it again. :)

I hope that Altered Beasts is a new game and not a port too.

Hopefully Sega can get the sound right this time, Smash Pack was horrible :sweat:

I'm not expecting Altered Beast to be a new title, but it'd better be a port of the arcade version and not the Genesis one. *-neo

Sega seems to neglect Shinobi 3 in re-releases. It's great that Revenge of Shinobi is coming out again but if Shinobi 3 (which is a lot better than 2. Don't believe anyone who tells you different. :) ) doesn't get a GBA port, I will be pissed off.

Usually I do not condone on GBA ports of old 16-bit games, but I missed out on several Genesis games, including the Shinobi series and I'm not in the mood of tracking down a Genesis or a CDX.

For the price of a GBA game, you could buy a Genesis and a handful of games. I'm interested to know why you don't want to buy one.

There are a two craptacular shots of both Shinobi and Altered Beast here. Neither games seem to be ports...or at least judging by the pics.

This is another example of why I don't condone giving Japanese to Western developers. Much less THQ.

I hope THQ just does the Phantasy Star Collection verbatim, and does it justice.

Uh, just what I wanted, a reason to have to put "(Genesis)" after the title of one of my favorite action games when it's brought up.

Shinobi looks like crap, looks more like the Ninja Gaiden ninja(arcade) to me... well at least Altered Beasts looks like a new game, they just better have a werewolf in it ^_^

Why couldn't it be a port of Shinobi III? :(

It's not that I don't want one. It's just that I'm too lazy to look for one. It's two different things.

Those Shinobi GBA screenshots look like crap though.

As for Shinobi, the game can look like jumbled pixels, I want to play it to see how it is. Altered Beast does look damned cool, though.

I am actually more excited about Space Chan 5 than the other two games! That's why I listed it first in the subject of this thread. I love SC5 and the style of the game. :):):)

I wonder what type of game it will be. It could be anything. There was an article on Gamespot with Tetsuya Mizoguchi a few months ago where he stated that the next SC5 game might be in a totally different genre. That's pretty interesting. I don't care if it's a music game or a platformer or whatever. Either way it's a must have for me!!

As for the Shinobi screenshots. I am not concerned to be honest. They don't look so good but it's still early and the pictures are very low quality. I'll reserve judgement for now.

I will agree with those who prefer Shinobi III to the other games though. That's my favourite game in the series. :)

Yea! SC5 lovin'! Considering how many games go when changing genres, I wouldn't be surprised for a puzzle game. Honestly, having some sort of music-based puzzle game would rock, I don't think we've had one of those yet.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Space Channel 5, as well as CRAZY TAXI, turn out as GBA games. I pray to GOD they are done justice.

Wow! that's a really great idea! I love puzzle games. I am currently hopelessly addicted to Puyo Pop and Puyo Puyo 4 (and loving every minute of it)... I love music games. And I love Ulala, of course....

This is a really interesting concept. I wonder how it would work. :)

Well, I played a Shockwave version of Crazy Taxi that could work for the GBA, as it was done overhead-view, like GTA and GTA2. Unfortunately, the Shockwave one I played had terrible control (it sucked really bad, but was an interesting idea for what could be), but if it was done right could be a fun game.

As for a puzzle SC5, I'm wondering how to really integrate music into puzzle, much like Rez did for shooting. I suppose it could be done in a such a way that as you set up combos, they create sounds that coincide with the music to add to it (again, like Rez). This makes for a wierd concept that I hadn't thought about, I'm kinda hoping they do it now (but unfortunately probably won't).

There actually was a music themed puzzle game released. It is called Pastel Muses and it came out in Japan on Saturn. Plays like Puzzle Bobble but you shoot the colored balls to the side of the screen rather than straight up. The music aspect is somewhat similar to what MechDeus was speaking of. It is reminiscent of REZ, only there isn't as much emphasis on sound. I have a few screenshots of it on my site for those interested. See for yourself

These Sega GBA titles look pretty good. The Shinobi one should have been called Shinobi Gaiden or something else other than Revenge of Shinobi to avoid confusion with the Genesis game.

As for Altered Beast, I'd about bet on the werewolf making it in. They'd better put the bear in it- his bad breath rules. :D

Ok, this is a pleasant surprise. A new Shinobi game isn't that shocking but an Altered Beast sequel definitely is.

Even if they don't look very impressive, I'll gamble on these two over any ports.
