I kind of like the idea of playing defensively, maintaining complete creative control, not wasting money trying to fight better-funded companies (like Sony and Microsoft) for 3rd party game rights, putting food on the table with franchises - and then researching and waiting for the next Pokemon to come along.

Do what you're good at, and don't try to be what you're not.

Thats all well and good, but not only is Nintendo's marketshare a fraction of what it was in 1989, their systems dont sell as well, and neither do their games. GameCube has sold roughly half of what the N64 did, and their big-name franchises dont do what they used to. Just look here. Nintendo has 21 games on the platinum chart on NES (well NES + Disk System), 10 on the SNES, 11 on N64, and... 1 on GameCube. And that 1 isnt a Mario or Zelda game.

All this points to their "solid base of customers" shrinking with every passing generation. I firmly, truly believe that playing to that rabid fanboy base will only lead to their demise.

Yea, they still got a stranglehold on the handheld market (and its where the money is), but that monopoly's days might be numbered. Disclaimer: before anyone says, "naw PSP wont dent it"... its still too early to say that!

if those pics are, as they claim, in game, i cant wait to see a aragonian. Thats my only concern, they havent given the race list yet, now, its unlikely that they would exclude aragonians, but the news so far has been so good, i anticipate another shoe dropping. and yes, the daedroth is sexy, kicks the heck out of the morrowind "gators in diapers" daedroth.

A bigger indicator is how their games are no longer selling more than 5 million worldwide(excluding perhaps SSBM).

Nintendo games are not no.1 anymore. And imo that is why they are doing so badly this gen.

Marketshare is cululitive of not only systems but games sold in any given timeframe. Last month, Xbox had 33% marketshare. In that month they sold more stuff with Xbox branded on it. That doesn't however mean that there were definitly more xboxes being sold. It means more products bearing the xbox brand sold. Thats games, accessories, live, and the system itself.

N64 may have had more or less than that number of systems out there but the important number is systems, accessories and games combined weighed against how much of the same items are being sold within the industry by competitors. Nintendo is currently selling fewer games for gamecube, fewer accessories and fewer syetems (though how much less) than thier competitors before the Gamecube.

Now. Why is this important? It really doesn't mean a damned thing. ESPECIALLY in an ELDER SCROLLS THREAD.

I understand that back in the heyday of DOS and such that this series was legendary. I bought Morrowind with the expansion stuff in it for the XBox during the Circuit City sale. It's not about gaining levels like JRPGs. Rather it's about exploration both of the expansive world and it's multifaceted storyline. It's possible to finish the main quest a few ways and there are hundreds of different side quests to "build you character". Of course the character building is more in the line of a PnP RPG being mostly in your head (and the aggro of the NPCs) but in the right frame of mind it can be more rewarding than a cinema style story laid out for you every step of the way.

I will now begin my blackout for this game. Any more information is too much and I don't want to Fable this one. :chunobi:
