Really, what's the big fucking deal if it states the ship date or the in-store date?Quote:

albums are released on Tuesdays because sales figures for albums are released on Mondays. While films are ranked according to weekend sales figures, the billboard charts are determined according to weekly sales. Thus, in order to maximize their sales potential, albums have to be released immediately after the posting of the previous week's sales figures.
The UK has a standardised release date for games - Friday. I don't think a single game has ever been (officially) released on another date, although some stores do like to sell the big games a day early, for instance I got Vice City on a Thursday night.
Maybe it's purely because we're a smaller market, but if the UK can standardise release dates the US should be able to.
When this whole "ship date" business came about, it was very annoying. But now, I'll see (take Fable for example) September 14th as the release date and I'll think to myself, "Okay, I'll go in tomorrow, because that's just the ship date."
It WAS an inconvienance, it was just a change in the industry. Now, most of us are used to this change so, for me at least, it's not as bothersome.
I would still prefer if they came out on Tuesdays and stuck to that date. It wouldn't make the game come out any faster or anything, it would just come out on Tuesday and we'd KNOW it would be there on Tuesday.
I mistyped and meant to type that they dont' come out on Fridays. They only come out on tuesdays.Quote:

So you think that pissing people off by giving misleading dates and haphazard, case-specific shipping in fact helps the industry, then? And that people knowing when to expect something and actually being able to get it on that date would hurt it? Do you know how freaking ridiculous you sound?Quote:

Halo fans will be out in droves on November 9th and walk away with game in hand, because it has a concrete street date, whereas if it followed the example put forth by most games, it would have a shipping date of the 9th, but then get shipped a little late, and retailers would recieve copies anywhere from the 11th to the 14th, pissing off customers and pissing off retailers that have customers pestering them nonstop while they can only shrug their shoulders as to when they'll get it. Halo 2 is a overwhelming point in my favor, not yours.Quote:
In most cases, if you go to the store to buy a particular DVD, you probably already saw it sometime during the 3-6 months it was available for your viewing pleasure at a nearby theater, or watched it on TV when it originally aired, or had the VHS version, etc. Having it as soon as possible is not that important. Compare that to the guy who has been waiting for Halo 2 for 2+ years and has taken November 9th off from work along with the rest of his friends. Even though the game is finished, you think he wants to wait until the following Tuesday to get to experience the game for the first time, because of some arbitrarily defined standard release day?
