Chain is fun, just don't go in expecting the same old system.

If you're digging the story aspects of the game, I'd definetly play it. I hate friggin' cards in my games generally speaking, but Com's gameplay manages well enough.Quote:

IAWTP. It seems like a colossal waste of effort to devote all the time and energy (and money) that took to make that intro to simply make it a big "LAST TIME, on KINGDOM HEARTS" recap.
Where is the problem, it's a fucking INTRO. That's what intro's do.
Beautiful.Quote:

Intro is short for Introduction, so in an Introduction to the next game they'll show what happened in the last two... makes sense to me, and if you look, it cut off right as the hooded dude showed up on the Island, which was new.Quote:

EGM mentioned something about that in their big blowout.
Yeah, well me and Korly just took turns going through it... it sucked.
That Axel character looks pretty cool. Other than that, I'll have to try it before I make any assumptions.
Axel is cool, I wish I knew what the hell he was up to... I might as well just wait for the NA release.
I will soldier on in the Japanese version. Let me borrow it tomorrow, and I will bring Tron to his knees in no time.
Can you throw shit at assholes in the TRON level?
I dunno, but I would not Stop Throwing Shit, You Asshole.
God I hope so.Quote:

I must reiterate that the first 3 hours of this game are NOT fun. Especially in Japanese.
Did they at least make the battles fun to play, unlike the first game?
Yeah, from the first 4 hours I played I enjoyed the battles, and the QTE's were fun (Albeit a little easy)
Ok so, we should have learned Japanese faster.
During ANY cutscene (FMW, in engine cutscenes, or even excessive dialogue) you can just pause it, and select the bottom option to completely skip the cutscene.
Needless to say, I'm getting through the game a little faster.
Unfortunately, my PS2 hates me, so I couldn't watch the FMV even if I wanted to. I actually had to turn the ps2 upside down to even get the FMV to attempt to play. And this fucker is a PStwo! I've only had it since like, God of War came out. It's JUST over a year! Fucking Sony (grumble, grumble...)
Also, it adds like 300% to the load times, because I can hear the PStwo straining for all it's worth to load the next area, so I spent most of my hour last night staring at a black screen.
I haven't decided yet if I will continue, but this is quite disheartening. :(
Ok so, I played for a few more hours today and BOY does it pick up once you get Sora.
So far the coolest guest star I've run into is the sorcerer from Sorcerers Apprentice but I've also seen the fairy godmothers from Cinderella the return, in kind of a creepy way, of Maleficent(sp) and mother fuckin' SCROOGE McDUCK!!!
The first appearance of mickey is brief, but very "Yoda from Episode II"ish. Really cool stuff.
Japanese Goofy sounds like he should work at the Kwik-E-Mart.
Japanese Donald is AWESOME.
And I always liked the gummi ship stuff, but the new Gummi Ship is WAY improved. The only downside is that the editor is pretty complicated and so I'm not gonna be able to handle it in Japanese.
Just got to Mulan world, more to come...
Ok, so I've been playing this since like 2 o clock. It's so fucking cool.
I finished up the Mulan world, which makes me want to see the movie, because I never have.
From there it was off to Beasts Castle, which was a pretty "meh" level, but I never liked the movie anyway. Sora and Beast do a cool berzerker rage combo though.
After leveling up the gummi ship a little bit I hit the Hundred Acre Wood. After your first battle there, you get your first summon, Chicken Little! I didn't really like it's ability though, because it switches you to FPS mode, and that's a bit jarring.
Then, it was off to the Hercules level. It starts off in the Underworld, and then you briefly do some stuff in the above ground place from the first game, and then you go back underground for the showdown with Cerebrus. He's not nearly as much of a pain in the ass as I remember, but I was pretty buffed up and leveled up at the time. Then, you go back up to fight Hydra, and so far, that's my favorite boss fight. Ya see, this game has a few Shenmue/RE4 moments in some battle where you do timed button presses for cinematic flair, and this is one of the fights that uses that a lot.
I just visited the main Disney Castle for a bit, and now it's off to Steamboat Willie world!
I'm pretty sure I'll be up all night.
PS. If you think I need to spoiler tag anything that I didn't already, let me know. I don't think I'm giving away anything that isn't obvious/non surprising/already given away in this thread earlier.
Hot.
But Mulan sucks bad. I hated it, tried to watch it again, and hated it more the second time.
Mulan can't be worse than the cheesy gummi ship crap.....though i gotta admit it looks better in KH2.
anyone knows if KH2(the import atleast) supports widescreen?
No, KH2 looks ugly on a good tv, and it makes me sad :(
When they spend a gigantic amount of money on a game, like they obviously did on this one, it's so sad to see it go without things like 16:9 and 5.1 (although, in this case, PLII is supported) when there are games like Agressive Inline, or MX vs ATV that have full HD support.
The graphics in this game are SO GOOD. This is what happens when you spend like 4 years tweaking. No animation ever looks jerky, no clipping, no nothing.
Can't fucking wait for the English version.

That sounds frustrating. Two of my four don't work so great, either. However, people don't need to be reminded that their PS2's might self-destruct at any second.Quote:

The Steamboat Willie level is cool, but really short. Without spoiling what happens I can't tell ya much. Everyones character model gerts simplified, and there are wacky sound effects. The boss fight is pretty fun, but an earlier part of the level has the MOST annoying badguys I've encountered yet. There are these cars you fight, and when you get them low on life they just go berzerk and run you over again and again. On second though, they might be easier if you equip the reflect command, but I have a feeling they'd just drive right through it. The Steamboat Willie level is also the place where you can abuse a glitch to do some easy Form leveling.
So far, the Lion King level is my favorite. You get to be a lion the whole time, who attacks with a keyblade in his teeth. There are huge, wide open vistas, and you can run fast as crap.
I finally made it to the Tron level, and guess what Trons weapon is? That's right, the deadly disc! And he WONT STOP THROWING SHIT. Asshole.
I've seen a bunch more cool guest stars, and the game has been completely freakin' awesome. I'm pissed that it had to come out in Japan first.

KH2 will be so awesome for you.
Well, I'm just about at the end. I've gone through a shitload of awesome boss fights, lots of cool minigame-esque sections (like a flying carpet ride) and I've even spent a lot of time messing with the synthesis.
I've completely finished all of the Disney worlds, and now I'm on the way to the endgame content. I don't want this game to end though. :(
This game does sound awesome but I lost interest in the first game around Halloween town. How long is KH2 supposed to be?
Well, I'm at the end. My game clock says 35 hours. Of course, my concept of the end might end up being another ten hours or something, but I doubt it.
And, as far as side quests go, I think I got 'em all. Only thing is I just got totally PWNED by Sephiroth. Like, I haven't broken a sweat on any of the bosses yet, because I usually spend huge amounts of time leveling up, but he killed me in ONE HIT. Killing him is the way to get the second best keyblade, and the ultimate weapon can only be had through synthesis, and since my Japanese is not too good, I think I accidentally used the elements I needed for the Ultima Weapon in like, a piece of armor or something. My bad.
Also, I remember some people complaining about the shitty platforming in the first game (especially the Alice in Wonderland level). Well, guess what? There is NO platforming ANYWHERE in this game.

Anyone who's excited to play this next week would do well to review the following:
Maybe you've recently played through KHI again to get prepared for this (if you did, good for you! You'll be very pleasantly surprised at how much the fundamentals have improved in this game.) and you went through and got the "Ansem Reports". Those are critical to the story of both games, and there are only 10 of them in the US version. However, the Japan only "Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix" has 3 more of them, all of which reference ideas that come to fruition in KHII. Also in Final Mix there is a hidden boss fight against one of the members of Organization XIII from KH: COM and KHII. I guess saying exactly who it is would be a spoiler, but if you care enough the information is out there. (it's only implied who it is, but after getting to the end of KHII and seeing a video of the boss fight, you can figure it out). That same member of The Organization that you fight in KH: FM is the guy who beckons you to Castle Oblivion in the very beginning of KH: COM. I never played KH: COM but the story is very much essential to this game, and is worth at the very least, reading. There is a full script at Gamefaqs. I found that the important parts were at the beginning and the end, and didn't bother to read the parts where they visit the Disney worlds too closely. In fact, one of the main areas from KHII is first introduced in KH: COM. Also in KH: FM there were a few scenes that further explained Rikus role in everything, and even deepened Mickeys involvement. A full transcript of these scenes are at Gamefaqs, and I saw a few translated videos at www.kh2.co.uk but they appear to have exceeded their bandwith or something. The most important thing to watch if you can is the "Deep Dive" secret ending from KH: FM. It's been posted all over the internet, and there might be a link in one of the old KH threads. It forshadows a lot of the main themes from KHII, and is also totally awesome.
Now, all of the story of KHI and KH: COM is pretty consisely recapped in the opening hours of KHII but having only played it in Japanese I don't know if the explanations will be quite good enough. I think it's in your best interest to seek out the stuff I just talked about, but I guess we'll know in a week or so if it was worth it or not.
I noticed something really cool while playing last night. Ya know how the action menu changes depending on what world you're in? (it looks all computer-y for the Tron world, foresty for the Pooh world, etc). Well when you venture into the room that has Soras cocoon from COM the menu changes to a COM theme, with cards as the icons. This might happen during your first visit there, but I didn't notice it until much later.
I don't get why you're playing through the Japanese release this close to the US release date.
Well, a lot of people can just read the plot summary online moments after the US game is released. Plus 90% of the game's story is fairly obvious since it follows along the lines of past Disney films (i.e. Mulan, Tron, etc). I've had the game since January, but only started playing now. Since I hated the first one, I don't really mind just trucking through it for gameplay. If I'm really concerned, I'll rent the US game next week.Quote:

Eh. If I had to choose between widescreen and progressive scan, I'm picking widescreen.
Because this is not even close to the first game. It's not like a "bigger, better" game either. It's just really good period. I think what I love the most are the time button presses a la Shenmue and God of War. There are so many for the most worthless of Heartless and they're all fun to pull off.Quote:

To be fair, I didn't hate everything about the first game. It was one very very small sidequest (finding synthesis items for the ultimate keyblade) that made me hate it that was always the only thing I could remember of the game. Overall, 1 has nothing on 2.Quote:

By the way, Square turned the Gummi Ship events into a frenzical rail shooter experience. It's really fun (and pretty). Feels like they used the same engine they used for Code Age Commanders (that is a compliment).
I'm going to liberally steal from the WoW thread and coin a new acronym for RPGs:
NODC = Not Oblivion Don't Care
Wow, you made a special point to post in a thread of a game you don't care about to let us know you don't care.
Oblivion is gonna be so totally kickass though, so I can see why you feel that way.

The final boss fights are so frickin' cool though.
I need a translation of the "Battle Report" at the end of the game so I can see how I did.
Cool! Apparently if you finish the game on Proude Mode you can see the special ending without even doing all that useless Jiminy Cricket stuff. You just have to seal the worlds and you're good. If I'm lucky, I should put in 2-3 hours before Friday.
yeah, I woulda played on Proud mode if I knew how easy the game was gonna be.
I'll do that for the US version.
Wuh-Teh-Fvvv is Proud Mode?
Hard Mode...
Since all my classes were cancelled and I had the day off from work today, I managed to finish KH2 by playing it for the entire day.
Strangely, I never wanted to put the remote down. They did a great job balancing the game out so you don't get bored or want to move on. I did skip a couple cutscenes though, but that was only out of lack of Japanese.
I thought the game was great. And I hated the first one. Really. Hated. So I guess they did something right, right? ;)
