Whfat fans want is a direct sequel thats not a movie, or a remake.
I'd settle for a remake.Quote:

Bump a la tastic for more pictures. It's all I'm good for. It's interesting how these pictures look terrible yet the game itself is going to sell like hotcakes regardless because all FF7 fans are going to give this a try.

This game looks disaterous!
Its not that I dopn't like the spin-offs. I just hate the always FF7. I love FF6 and would buy a FF6 spin-off first day out ,but that will never happen since the entire japanese population is under the control of Sepiroth.

You just have a Vincent fetish. There's no other reason that you'd get this game. Since this is part of the FF7 compilation, were all getting it anyways, if you want Advent or not.Quote:

Why should Square-enix make another FF7 game? They already have a DVD, cell phone game and FPS in the works.
What really needs to be done is remake FF8. Everyone says that FF7 is the best RPG ever, but completely forgets about 8.
there is a good reason for that.Quote:

I dunno - I like action games, and a FF7-themed DMC sounds like a lot of fun. Except I don't trust Square's ability to make action games. And the game doesn't look that bad...just poorly screen captured in those last shots. The character modeling looks good for PS2 standards, anyway.
VIII is the best Final Fantasy of all of them (though I never played II or III). VII is a close second.

Oh, and Musashi isn't so much action as action/adventure. I'm thinking Square won't know what to do with a game that (from the looks of it) hinges a lot of fighting and little else.
Oh yeah - FF8 is an awful game. Now, the story I loathe (how girls could get all wet and dreamy over such a pompous character like Squall baffles me) but even if I give credit that some people dig the 'opera love story' it's still terrible. The gameplay is unbalanced to a point where I could really care less about things coming into the second disc.

That's just my opinion though.
IBTN. VIII is the best in the series.
True. But in this case, I think it's highly unlikely I'd consider II or III better than subsequent installments considering all I've read about them. Possible, though, yes. And indeed, as a nod to that microscopic possibility, I admitted, parenthetically, to not having played them.Quote:

I don't understand how people can like VII so much. I think it's the absolute worst of the series by a huge margin.
And VIII is better than most FFs by virtue of Triple Triad alone.
For the playstation generation:
FFIX > FFVII > FFX > FFVIII
I guess you can argue that you like the junction system and Triple Triad, but don't even try to front and say that FFVIII had anything resembling a) a good story or b) good characters.
VI you assholes. VI.
And IX is severely underrated by a lot of people I've noticed.

I can't really tell where they're trying to take this just yet. It almost looks like:
DMC + MGS + FFVII - everything that makes each one great

wowowowwowo, super cool~ can't wait for it!
This is due out in 2K6, right?
Sooo... Dirge of Cerebus, FFXII, Kingdom Hearts II all in 2006 for PS2 when PS3, the successor to PS2 is also due out in 2006? Something's fishy...
Keep in mind the PS3 will play every PS2 game, so if you upgrade you could still make the mistake of buying this Square trash.Quote:

Got this last night, I'll post impressions whenever I get a chance to actually play it :(
To play this online (In Japan at least) you need a hard drive, and the Play Online service.
Wonder how that'll work in the Americas.
Which requires a monthly fee. GG, etc.Quote:

Played through the first four levels. Some overview so far:
It's like the team really, really, really wanted to copy to DMC, but in order to differentiate themselves decided to make the gunplay like RE4. However, a large part of the reason DMC's combat was because it had a lock-on - which this game does not - and part of the reason RE4's shooting was great was because of location damage - which this game does not (excluding specific parts of certain bosses). Because of that the hand-to-hand is incredibly clumsy as you can actually knock your opponent out of the way mid-combo, which can give them the opportunity to get up and start kicking Vincent's ass if he was in the middle of a flip kick. The gun elements actually work pretty well on their own but it feels a little half-assed being on top of a totally different combat engine and with no actual work on the player's part (if an enemy is inside the reticle it will auto lock-on, and if they're far away it's half a matter of gun parts and half a matter of luck if you hit them).
The graphics are good for a PS2, which is to say they're not good for any other system. Crappy environment textures, a framerate (or filter) which makes sure everything blurs so as to try and not make the textures look so bad, but the character models are great and the visual design (mostly) is pretty awesome. There are some huge glaring flaws in the characters, though, mostly notably the scientist introduced in stage 3. Apparently someone from the clothing school of FFX warped worlds and hopped into FFVII, giving us a beautiful one-eyed, one robot arm, female scientist that wears a white lab coat, a bikini, enourmous high heels, and a couple scraps of cloth draped over her bikini to give some semblence of "I was wearing a purple dress before a werewolf attacked me." Genius. I don't know where they think of this stuff.
As a side note, the bad guy soldiers are also pretty terrible. The major ones all look like Bloody Roar rejects, and in order to make sure that you can tell the difference between the male and female cannon fodder they make the females not only not wear pants (just underwear) but they give them glowing vaginas. Let me repeat that: Glowing vaginas. Go Square.
On the other hand, Vincent looks cool and Cait Sith is good as well as funny (if a bit out of place), they did a good job on Midgar and the CG movies are, of course, absolutely stunning. Shame they made the in-game graphics look so muddy for no good reason, and of course I saw no option for progressive scan. On the bright side it does at least support PLII (I saw nothing for digital, as expected).
The gameplay overall has a lot of good ideas, most of which is focused on his gun Cerebus. You can modify it into three variations which can be switched between on the fly, allowing for something like having a chaingun, shotgun, and pistol designs if you so desire. There's been a crapload of parts so far to really tweak the hell out of it altering range, weight (how fast you can run when your gun is drawn), speed, and damage and each of those can also be powered up even further in between levels in exchange for gil.
I'm also surprised at the level of camera control that's offered. In gun mode you can switch between over-the-shoulder ala RE4 or standard first-person, and can alter the up/down and left/right both in reversing as well as sensitivity with it being seperate for gun and hand-to-hand. Since I prefer my camera controls different for third-person then I do first this works out great for me, although I really wish you could pull the camera back in third-person since it's way too close for some of those fights (if someone comes up from certain directions you can't tell they're there).
So far it's pretty good game, nothing amazing but with a lot of good effort behind it. Basically, yeah, FFVII fans have nothing to worry about it and will eat this up like mad, for everyone else I'd say it's a good "B" so far.
So in summary, you can buy two Capcom games that do the same things better for about $50 total. I'm shocked.
Basically, yeah. DMC3 and RE4 are a lot better then this game. It's good but without the license wouldn't get nearly as much attention.Quote:

Yeah, you can transform into his werewolf form to run around and whoop ass (I destroyed the fourth boss in a few seconds with it), but you lose your gun while you're in it and as far as I can tell you can only charge it by finding mystical no-reason glowing circles that litter the environment. It does look pretty sweet.Quote:

On second thought, dumb question.Square probably didnt have time to incorporate different play mechanics for two drastically different characters in a game designed around Vincent.
I saw some talk on the GameFAQs boards about multiple character playstyles, but I think they were referring to multiplayer which I haven't touched yet.Quote:

I must admit I'm incredibly tempted just to see what the hell it is. Standard deathmatch or something? Seems an odd addition regardless.Quote:

XD AWESOME.
The other thing I forgot to mention: hit points appear on-screen when you do damage just like they do in traditional FF games. Normally it's kinda nice because you can tell exactly how much damage your shots do and can tell when you score criticals, but it made for an unintentionally hilarious scene when a helicopter was gunning down some innocents while chasing them through an alley... and their hit point damage amounts kept popping up. Sorta ruined the whole feel.
