Ong-Bak

Well I went and seen Ghost in the Shell 2 at a small Art theather Sunday. Before the movie they showed a load of Trailors for movies I haven't even heard of. One of the trailors that stood out was this bad ass kung fu flick called Ong-Bak.

So after a good bit of searching for the movie, title and such I finally hit pay dirt. Seems its coming to the US in November.

I also found a bunch of trailors for it HERE I HIGHLY recommend the Apple Quicktime trailor.

So have a lookie at the trailors and see if that pumps you up a bit about asian cinema.

Yup. I didn't even know it was getting a US release, I've been wanting to see it since I heard about it.

Cool to hear its finally coming to U.S. Took them forever.

Creative team behind Ong-Bak, minus Tony Jaa, recently released another, balls to wall action flick. Trailer was posted a while back at KFC cinema board, and it looked like a mix between Shaolin Soccer with Ong Back, with team of soccer player beating the shit out of evil military and gangsters.

The amazing thing about this movie is that the story doesnt even matter...you can just sit and watch this w/ your jaw wide open.

Well maybe, but you are reminded time and time again that the story is just filler to get from one fight scene to the next. Anyone expecting a real film will be kinda disappointed.

Not that I didn't enjoy it for its awesome fights and stunts... I did. But you almost wish they didn't force making a movie out of it.

I've been waiting for a HK DVD release of this movie for some time now and well, it looks like I might be seeing the US release before I have a chance to buy the HK version.

I believe the HK and French dvd's are out already. I kept finding dvd reviews for em.

There were to many amazing things in that preview to mention.

I saw a chunk of it one day at a game store. Ong-Bak pwnz

The best part of that trailer is at the very end when the title (I think?) comes up. "MACH! HUHUH!"

I downloaded a french dub of it, and holy shit, I don't think I'll be able to watch another kung fu movie again. The hits in this are so realistic that its sickening. I can just see myself saying "pfft, that looks fake" in the next 1000 kung fu flicks I see.

My favorite parts are the kick to the head in that street fighting put thing, and the knee to the chest there too. I cannot see how you could fake those shots.

I saw Ong Bak a day or two before Kill Bill came out and it rather dampened the experience of the latter.

I am VERY glad this is coming to the US, I will gladly pay to see this in theaters and will pay again to purchase the DVD. Awesome stuff.

In the old thread Stormy mentioned training beginning for Ong Bak 2 (a tidbit I missed): Can't wait.

Ong Bak is the best choreographed action film I've seen since Fist of Legend and Drunken Master 2. I bought my copy of Ong Bak on EBAY a couple months ago. It may be a bootleg, but it does have excellent picture quality, english subtitles and some great special features.

its coming to theatres here in around 2 weeks. YAY!

He did. I checked the IMDB page and he's listed as a producer.

However, The Rza is the one telling me how dope it is on Television. It's gonna be "bong bong you know" or... something.

They advertised this on the superbowl, I forgot all about it until Rza popped up and reminded me! I AM THERE.

Apparently Drunken Master 3 is going to be made with Panem and Jackie Chan!

I can't wait! I still gotta see this movie, hopefully this weekend.

My brother just scored screener passes to see this Tuesday at 7. I'm there.

It definately took it time getting here, but I am glad, that if finally did.

The commercial looks cool, like when he gives that one dude an atomic kick right to the face and the guy goes straight the fuck down. I'll go see it.

I read an article about Tony Jaa that says the guy trains 8 hours a day. Damn. He's the real deal.

He's the new Jackie Chan, man. That is some exciting shit.

The ong-bak website has the theaters its opening in this Friday. No where in FL is getting it this weekend, f'n sucks.

HOLY DAMN.

That's about all I can say right now. This is the only action movie where the audience was clapping after each fight, and people were going OOOH, and DAMN! At a lot of the hits.

Does anybody have that animated gif of Ting doing that spin kick to that dude's head while his legs are on fire?

i love seeing people's reactions the first time they see this movie. Hopefully this sets a new standard and we see some more films living up to the quality of the action. At the very least i hope it proves to the studios that real stunts >>>> cg and wires.

I saw this movie a month or two ago. The action was great. Felt very real, and I'm sure alot more of it was real than you could ever get away with in hollywood. That said, other aspects of the movie were totally B-Rate, including the porn-quality story.

This is true, I originally watched this without subtitles and enjoyed it just as much (if not more) than when I did later with the subbed version. It still has some of the best fight scenes ever put on film which is more than enough for me.

I'm totally checking it out on the big screen.

This is the movie I was talking about in my original post on the first page of this thread. Tony Jaa not in it, but otherwise it has all the crazy stunts and fights, like in Ong Bak.

I saw this tonight. Tony Jaa sure is the shit.

He has to be inhuman because a man was digging a woodsaw through his arms AND HE PUSHED HIM BACK! This and like 2 minutes later where he misses kicking a guy and spins in place and kicks him again.

Entertaining, only because this guy is not a mere man.

This movie was so fucking amazing! It blows my mind the hits this guy was dishing out. Nobody cares about the story (it served its purpose to move the player around from one scene to the next so as he could beat people up or perform stunts). I loved the multiple camera angles, fuck continuum.

I liked the movie. I thought Tony Jaa showed a lot of potential. He is a great fighter but he didn't show very much else.

Jackie Chan has crazy facial expressions and his silly antics that make him more memorable to me.

Still, I loved the fights and I will wait until I see more of his movies in the years to come before I make my final decision on Tony Jaa.

First off, he looks way too ethnic. It's not a problem with me but marketing some guy who looks like he delivers take-out on the side is going to be tough. Secondly, I don't think this guy speaks a lick of english.

Still, I think this guy a breath of fresh air when compared to slew of hiphop/karate mashups we've been eating since Lethal Weapon 4. Additions like the slow motion replays should be added to more movies like this. This movie was basically a demo reel for the guy with loads of "Holy shit look what I can do!" moments.

Anyway, great movie but I've read that they cut a lot of scenes out regarding sisters or something. I did feel a little confused at times so who knows? Most likely it'll end up on some "EXTREME UNRATED!!" edition of the DVD.

Well, then ,the marketing doesnt need to be skewed toward shit-head prejudice rednecks, and I doubt anyone who wants to see this is going to worry about the way the guy speaks his engrish, like they are about his flying round-house kick to his opponents' head.

Yeah, I know,man. Unfortunately in this pansy-ass backwards society we live in movies like Legally Blonde or Meet the Fockers appeal to the masses of mindless sheep out there. The only way I know to combat this is to raise my kids on a steady diet of Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee, the aforementioned Jaa, and whoever else can break an opponents bones or face without breaking a sweat.

Hey, I love kung fu movies just like the next guy, I got a huge collection of Jackie Chan stuff but I liked Meet the Fockers. :P

Ong Bak DVD has an alternate ending, casting footage and deleted scenes!

Don't worry, it's all region DVD and has english subtitles.

My brother told me that Tony Jaa was on Direct Effect yesterday. I never watch that show, but did anyone else see it?

Oh man, this movie was so awesome.

Everytime I hear the name or think of kung-fu I see that massive explosion from the cab chase scene. It's the greatest thing that's ever happened to me and my mind.

I still can't believe Jaa jumped through the tiny barbed wire ring that was suspended in mid-air. My mind is having trouble envisioning the human body jumping through such a tiny (and dangerous!) opening, even though my eyes witnessed that glorious event.

Your eyes witnessed it several times from the repeated angles.

FINALLY saw this after months of waiting. I couldn't believe some of the stunts and moves in this movie. Tony Jaa is f'n sick!

I watched this today, torrent took forever but it's definitly awesome. Thans for recommending.

Turns out this is showing in Cleveland, just kinda far away. Looks like I'll finally get to see this on the big-screen after all on Sunday night.

Just saw this last night, and it was pretty much the most fun I have had at a movie in at least a few years. The movie is hilarious for intended purposes, and non-intended purposes.

Its cheesy, its got silly villains, and a bad plot (aka its like Shenmue the movie). But best of all its got the most insane fighting I have ever seen. And its not all wired to hell, its not CGed to hell, its just brutal. Its also got wicked awesome stunts, with the much appreciated Replays. Overall, its fucking awesome. Whatever hype you have heard for it, it lives up to it in spades.

See it in the theater I beg you, its so much fun to see it with a crowd that can get into it. Everyone was just going nuts, cheering, laughing, the entire theater would just yell out "OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!", it was fantastic.

Going to see this again real soon.

Best scene in the movie is the on-foot street chase. The whole movie could've been that, with no fighting, and I would've been satisfied.

I've seen this first without subs then about a year later with subs and I loved it each time. Now I just found out it's playing here in town on a huge screen. I'll be checking this out for a third time this week.

Movies like this shouldn't have big stories. Have you seen Police Story 5? (or whatever the latest number they're at is) The story is god awful. Jackie Chan is a good action star actor, but his emotional range is limited. The best acting Chan does is reactionary stuff to what others are doing at the time.

Keep Ong Bak short, funny, and action packed. These qualities make it great.

Is the New Police Story getting a US release?
