Gonna scrap my old thread, since it's full of old pictures and old info and just start over fresh.
My EB will have this in at 10 am tommorrow, and I finally got a chance to play the demo level. Leaps and bounds over the old one, and the demo level feels alot like Pit Fighter, but not as gay.
Check out the guide though. It's about 80 pages, and is nothing but character bios and pictures of the finishers. Blah. :bang:
No DMX makes me sad, though :(
I'm looking forward to this, the gameplay appears to be what the parking lot brawl in SD vs. Raw should be, but doesn't appear to be. Depending on how much, or what, I buy in the coming weeks, I'll get this during the year. If not, I'll at least rent the Xbox version.

Saw the EGM scores but I'd like to know more details about the CAW/CAB and whatnot.
Not that this game isn't already a must buy for me. Playable Lil' Kim = instant purchase. Shame I have a test on friday so maybe I shouldn't start playing this game as soon as I get it.
And say what you want I'm looking forward to being able to play as some of the non-rappers again(Mainly that one Preacher guy with the afro from Vendetta, hopefully he's still in). Of course if the CAW is good enough I could probably make him myself...hopefully.

This game is badass, but it feels like there aren't as many moves to do as in Def Jam Vendetta.
I'm only 2 hours in, so I'll have to explore some more.
And the Create a Fighter isn't deep, at all, so if you're picking it up just for that expect to be HUGELY disappointed.
Well, that was a key selling point for me, although apparantly, you can get stuff later on, so who knows. I'm not digging the game much, going by the demo. The fight club area is nice though, very Pit Fighter-ish.
The whole game is alot like Pit Fighter, since some of the most damaging moves come from interactions with the crowd and the weapons, and the crowd is always there (well, in the 8 levels out of 24 I have, the crowd is only absent in one level).Quote:

This game is fucking hot! 2 hours in so far...
The Create a Fighter isn't deep in the looks department but it's on par with EA Big's other games (NFL & NBA Street). But there is a ton you can do with the attire, more than any other game I've played and I haven't come close to unlocking everything. As for the fighting styles, so far I've only went with wrestling so I'm not sure what learning a new style does. You can set up 4 different finishers though and they're all way over the top versions of wrestling moves and striking combos from what I've seen so far (not a whole lot unlocked so far).
The story mode is 1000x better than the last game. You get a little apartment where you'll get text and voice messages from the fighters & shop owners after every fight. Then you've got the map screen where you can go to any of the shops, tattoo studio, barber shop, training gym (Rollins is your trainer) or any of the venues, which become unlocked as you win. So far each venue has had 2 or 3 normal fighters to beat then you get that level's "boss" who is a little harder to beat. And I've had one battle royal, one match to get a girl and a kind of "boss" match against Ice-T. Wining the match gets you $ & development points but you can get a lot more $ if you do a huge variety of moves in the match. Development points are used to upgrade your fighter’s stats, buy new finishers or learn a new style. Money is used to buy everything, things can be as cheep as $5 for a bandana or as much as $8000 for some jewelry (so far).
The soundtrack is great if you're a hip hop/rap fan but if you're not then you aren’t gonna dig it, duh. They still don't play the songs during the fights but the beats during them aren’t as repetitive as they were in Vendetta.

If you're coming into this expecting more like what you saw in Def Jam Vendetta, I think you'll be disappointed, but if you go in expecting a quality product, I think you'll love it. I wouldn't even classify it as a wrestling game anymore, like I said earlier, it's basacially a 3d Pit Fighter that dosen't suck.
So, there are officially no ground grapples? 'Cause I can't seem to get them to work.

What kills most wrestling games for me is the amount of time spent doing ground submission holds. Even though DJ2 isn't really about wrestling it's refreshing to see changes such as this.
I might just cave and get the PS2 version, since it'll be weeks before my Xbox gets fixed.
The one thing I hate about the game is the ... MANUAL! I mean the game is freaking smokin', but the manual is retarded. The "info" in that booklet is ... lacking. If you need help finding out how to coun5ter and perform ground grapples ... good luck. The amount of info in that thing is ... like the amount of brain cells in Jessica Simpson ... none. I
I'm at Sean Paul, got my ass kicked by Skull, lost half my health due to that match, and can't get it back. And Sean Paul is fast; a pain in the ass, and freaking hard!
But I love the game. The music is crazy and the move set is insane; especially after 3 hours of playing. BTW ... Carmen Electra is my g/f. (YEAH YEAH!)
I put in 5 hours of game time yesterday (that's what it says but I played it for like 9 hours) and I'm only 50% done with the story mode.
I just hit the turning point where I'm fighting for Crow and I love how my guy isn't cocky before matches anymore and just stares saying nothing all the time like he hates doing it. Had to change my attire for that part of the game, I'm now all ninja like in appearance with no bling.
There are ground submissions but they all start from the standing grapple. I didn't go with submissions as one of my three styles this time but I'm gonna try that out the next time I play through.Quote:

This game has a way better story mode than the first one.
Just finished the story mode and it seems like I can still keep going. I went back in and Rollins left me a message saying there was a tourney I could fight in. I've gotten to the point where the game is really easy on normal so I'm upping it to hard tomorrow. I had more trouble with a 2 on 2 match (with my partner starting at 1/2 health) right before the end that I did with Snoop at very end.

yeah, i gotta give it up. this is the absolute best multiplayer brawler type of game i've ever played. roufuss was right on the money with this shit, and i havent been able to stop for 3 days now(i finished everything, got all chars, etc).
the way your style splits is freakin awesome. i love being able to combo from the knee-strike clinch into submissions. that shit builds blazin meter like crazy.
I guess this game is worth buying after all these comments.
Beating the shit out of rappers as Henry Rollins sounds too good to pass up.
After a few days I've found that it's limited grapples really hurt the game for me, and now that it's done, I am bored with it. My friends and I played a few rounds and then we're done. When playing Window, destruction, and inferno, we figured you couldn't get KOed, but you could, so it makes it pointless to have a separate "mode" for it. Am I just not realizing something, or does everyone only have four grapples (punch, kick, and then punch and kick from a strong grapple)? I was so in love with the game at first, but now it's just boring too fast.

Anyhow, i rented this, and while i dont think its good enough to buy at full price, i am really enjoying it more then i expected. i never played djv so i really didnt know too much what to expect, factor in my ambivilance to wrestling games(i know its not a wrestler, but its developed by guys who do mostly wrestlers, right?) and my utter hate for rap, and i was really doing a mercy rent, but im impresed, the caw mode is limited, but varied enough that i made just about what i wanted, the moves are actually pretty good and true to life, other than the blazes,and they are supposed to be over the top, so no surprise there. I cant say i cared formy char's personality, i prefer the quiet, driven esoteric ryu type fighter to a cocky loudmouth who talks like a 14 year old on the internet "bitch you got owned"..yuk. but the fighting actually impressed me, there is a good amount of give and take, and i never felt like the computer was unfairly abusing overpowered tactics. combos had their place, hard kicks had their place, grapples had their place, weapons had their place, as did weapon disarms, i really felt like using all my strategic options, rather than just leaning on a few proven moves.
ITs no ggxx, and its nto trying to be one, it is more fun than i expected, and if it hits 20 im getting it in a second, just to try out different fighter combos, my current build is a ma/submision/kickboxer with maxed speed and lower body,and a good bit of toughness. im interested in trying a wrestler/sub combo.
Some things that bugged me were little details, the loading sceens take forever, my guy's attitude annoyed me, i would have preferred a freesparring option in rollins gym so i could try out my moves without some psycho trying to remove my head. The girlfriends thing was highly underused, i barely even saw her, maybe they could have her there as a persistent crowd interference or something, and i would like to see a little more groundwork and counter grapples, it would make more sense for a submission wrestler. Finally, i know it kind of defeats the puropse of havign rappers in the game in the first place, but could x-box please get custom soundtracks? i do not fight to rap, i fight to metal, i fight to punk, i fight to ska, i do not fight to rap. but other than those gripes, its a very solid game that i like more than i expected.
A grapple reversal puts your opponent in stun temporarily, which lets you grapple them back without being able to reverse you, or run and attack them (some standing heavy attacks are fast enough to land, too). Also, if they run into a wall while stunned they'll slump against it and let you go for an environmental grapple attack.Quote:
