Roy Jones down for the count

Anyone catch the fight tonight between Roy Jones and Glen Johnson?

Without elaborating too much Roy Jones got worked,.. well actually he got knocked the fuck out.I'm talking he didnt move from the mat for a couple of minutes :lol: Supposedly he has a concussion from hitting the mat too hard but who can tell.

Needless to say I think Roy Jones needs to hang up the gloves and call it quits.He just wasnt fighting like he wanted to win at all. Hell, he wasnt even fighting.And,all of that bad-ass strutting and rapping he was doing before the fight only made his loss sweeter. Another thing is it seemed like between rounds Roy was listening to the advice of his entourage and friends more than he was his own damn trainer.His trainer would start to give him advice (of course the advice wasnt anything special just - stuff along the lines of "THROW SOME PUNCHES, please" )and he would turn away to listen to his pals.

Well I guess we'll never see a Roy Jones Tarver rematch with good reason.Might as well let Glen fight him I guess. Atleast it wouldnt be a boring match. :\

I wont even dignify your post beyond saying that a great champion and great ambassador of the sport has gotten old.

It happened to Ali, Lenord, Robinson, Whitaker, Holmes, etc...

It happens to them all, and I fail to see anything amusing about it.

It is sad, but I didnt feel pity for it being the end for him. Maybe it was the way he carried himself throughout and before the fight. He didnt give Johnson any respect and repeatedly laughed at and smiled at him during the fight.Maybe thats the reason why I laughed so hard when he went down<shrugs>.I dont think I have a soft spot in my gut for people who talk or front being tough shit when they cant back it up.And at least if your going to go out - put up a fight - especially in this of all sports.

But I guess you are right in that it does suck to see someones career come to a screeching halt after such a good run.

In Baseball, Football, and Basketball if you start to slip you sit the bench more and your team mates pick up the slack.

In boxing its good bye to a career and shit like this happens, in a sport of reflexes and especially for a fighter who had some of the best reflexes of all time and relied on them the old saying in boxing is true.

A fighter gets old over night.......

It wasnt that Jones wasnt trying, he was... he was trying what he had always done.. yet this time... it just wasnt working.. and thats the story of a fighter....

Do you think fighters who talk smack or act cocky dont intend to back it up?

Also, some fighters use trash talking and or arrogance as a way to pump themselves up, if you have never boxed you couldnt understand the mix of emotions that goes through your mind.. anything that will help you control that fear you will do...

RJjr is my all time favorite, and IMO the best fighter of all time. He should hang it up. His lateral movement has been getting worse lately, and tonight it was just about non existant.

Nothing can ever tarnish his accomplishments in my mind, but he needs to hang it up before he gets hurt bad. He really did get old overnight,moreso than any other fighter I've ever seen. I'm shocked and saddened, but sooner or later it had to happen. On top of all that, he just doesn't seem interested anymore.
