I think the intellivision mario is hilarious.

And the definitive mario sprite has got to be NES SMB. I mean come on. That's by far the most well recognized mario game ever, and I'm sure the vast majority of the people here were first introduced to him via this game. When I think mario sprite, that's the one I instantly jump to.

I know you didn't plan on including everything but here are some additional things you may or may not know about:

There are actually two C64 versions of DK. I think the sprite you took is from Ocean's 1986 Euro release. Atarisoft's 1983 version is different. Atari also released Mario Bros. on the C64.

The Vic 20 DK sprite is pretty messed up to look at too(but at least this version had all the levels).

Oh, and does anyone know where I can find pics of Super Mario World's prototype? I remember EGM showing the first pic of the game and it looked a lot different than the final version.

I've played it! It's quite a nice little game. It's completely unlike the original (which is included as a bonus). It's completely competitive and more puzzle-oriented than the original, in which you have to align color-coded bricks and walls to eliminate them and fill your opponent's side with traps.

It does features the return of Foreman Spike (aka Blackey), Mario's rival from the original Wrecking Crew (who is long overdue for another comeback in my opinion).

That's just Wario with a different hat!
