Everybody is climbing over one another to get the reviews first. However, by the time an issue with a "hot new" review comes out, the game is already out, tons of reviews are already online, you already have your mind made up, or if the review indeed does come out before the final product hits shelves, the review has an error because their "reviewable" copy wasn't final.

In my mind, nothing should ever be reviewed unless you are reviewing what will actually be in the hands of the people who go out and buy the product. End of story.

I'd rather see reviews focus on the things that I might miss. Everybody knows about the new Grand Theft Auto or Halo or Metal Gear Solid. But with as many games that come out, it's so easy to totally miss out on a bunch of great, yet lesser known, games. I'd like to see more reviews specifically meant for getting you to go back and look at games you may have missed - and I'm not talking about "graveyard" reviews that are simply meant for waxing nostalgic.

I'm surprise so much interest remains in printed game mags. I get a (free) subscription to EGM and solely use it to pass time on the shitter. Websites do a far better job with game news and information, and even better allow for completely amature content to be distributed easily. I can't see myself ever buying a game mag again.

And as for #1, if you're into niche gaming why are you relying on a mainstream mag for your info? If, say, you like 2D fighters, I'd think shoryuken.com would be a far better source of info than GamePro.

And yeah, anime in game mags (or websites) is bad. Always hated that. One topic please.

If popular= cool, then yes, with DBZ, Pokemon, and Sailor Moon as 90% of the cause, yes. I agree with Shidoshi about how only completed games should be reviewed, and while there will always be little caveats like Juiced (recently), it would prevent shit like the DC Half-Life being reviewed, and a GI Turok review done months before the game was out. Reviewing incomplete code just seems shady to me when it's presented to readers as being the same game as they're buying on the shelves.

That was one of the best videogame interviews of all time, and he had the right to be arrogant, because GameDay was still raping Madden. "Liquid AI? Thats the shit that ran down EA's leg when they saw our game".

That quote is up there with "Tekken 4 is a piece of shit".

popular =/= cool. Lots of people like stuff that they really really should not.

But for all my videogame reviews I turn to Maxim and Stuff. After all, they reviewed Half-Life 2 a year ago and told straight up how good it was, I'd like to see any other magazine beat that reporting.
