Making a Video DVD
Alright, so I'll make this simple. I've got episodes of Smallville and other TV shows on my computer, and I'd like to put them on a dvd. Now, my dad's laptop has a program that will do data dvd's, but I'd like to make video dvd's. I've tried this on my girlfriend's computer but it's WAY too slow, and they should have never bought the DVD Writer. That being said, my dad has a DVD+/-R Burner and only has Roxio Easy CD Creator, what should I get to make them, and what media is more compatable.
Thanks.

Get Nero, it's perfect for that.

Not enough. You need those clips to be in MPEG2 format, then you have to make a Menu for the user to select the tracks.
I used tmpgenc for converting AVI to MPEG2 and their DVD making app to create menus and convert to VOB format. I then used Nero to burn the Video DVD. I would advise against using their DVD app and instead use something like DVD Architect from Sony because their app made the disk skip a lot.

I use TMPGENC's DVD authoring program as well to make DVDs out of my Satellite PVR rips.
Works well for what I use it for, I dont get to involved in the menus, just a simple episode select option..

So... using TMPGENC takes like 2 hours for a half hour clip. Is that normal?

How big are the files and how fast is your PC?
TMPgenc on my 800 athlon/256 PC 100 Ram for a 270Meg file takes +-58 mins.
On my 64 3000/1024 DDR Ram for a 270Meg file takes +-8 mins.

1800 p4 256 pc800 rimm 3000megs.
I guess it's almost right then.
