Star Wars Episode III official thread

I have said it before, Ebert is an unpredictable wing nut but when it comes to movie reviews (how else do you explain him giving thumbs up to crap like Home Alone 3 and Tomb Raider?). I still say that the only reason he gave Episode 1 such a majorly glowing review (nad I really like TPM depsite Jar Jar and that cartoon network style 2 headed announcer gahhhh) is because he had an interview with Lucas on the same show. How else do you explain the fact he slammed Episode 2 for all the reasons he could have for TPM?

Example, from Ebert's Ep 2 review he ranks Jar Jar OVER Obi Wan and Mace simply because Jar Jar is a new character! Jar Jar doesn't drive me nuts, but i cannot for the life of me figure out why Ebert used him to leverage his more positive impressions of both movies' dialogue.

Er, OK, what about Christopher Lee's excellent and subtle portrayal of Dooku? He's a "new" character, right Ebert? I'd say Dooku playing devil's advocate with Obi Wan telling him "What if I told you a Sith Lord is in control of the Senate?" pretty much blows away any Nickelodeon sputtering Jar Jar ever gave off. Episode 3 has almost zero Jar Jar, surprised he didn't give it thumbs down. :rolleyes:

Anyone hear that load of crap about the underlying political attacks in some of the dialogue in Episode III? That's stupid. People are just looking for something to stir up so they can get something to talk about.

I just started listening to the Episode 3 soundtrack which I am borrowing from a co-worker. Track 1 is amazing so far, starts off with the classic opening crawl theme but then goes into the "Sith" theme which is very dramatic and nicely layered.

Also, there are a few things I found interesting in the track listings, do the tracks #s correspond to the order of what happens in the movie because....

....it lists "General Grevious" at track 5, but then before track 14, "Birth of the twins" a track 13 is listed as "Grevious speaks to Lord Sidious." So unless as I said it's just the numbering out of order (and it's just the track for when Grevious talks with Sidious on the holonet and Sidious orders the Separatists to be sent to Mustafar) does Grevious survive somehow? I guess although he would be overplayed he'd make a nice nemesis for the TV series. Hmmm.

Oh yeah, just started listening to "Anakin's dream," eery and lovely stuff.

Yea I think the tracks are out of order. The whole CD is totally awesome and the bonus dvd isn't that bad either. Enter Lord Vader is awesome.

Listening to Anakin vs. Obi Wan right now, amazing stuff. That duel is gonna be incredible. Also, how long is the duel, anyone know? I heard the duel itself is at least 10 minutes. And I dunno if I believe him, but Lucas said last year the duel would be "the longest sword fight in cinema history."

I hope Grevious is awesome in this movie. He was bad ass in the clone wars show. Anything less will not be acceptable.

He slams Lucas for writing "immature" dialogue but then he makes a lame joke like the above to express why he doesn't like it?

OK, I can understand why Lucas's dialogue and direction aren't to everyone's tastes, but am I really supposed to take a reviewer like Travers seriously when he goes so over the top in his review that he thinks the movie should be a silent film with Chewbacca's growling the only audio? As an MST3K fan, I'm no stranger to riffing, but "Hate responsibly" (IOW, word your disdain a little more maturely) as Bobcat Goldthwait once said in one of his more...enlightened moments. :p

Have never liked Travers. I think the first time I heard one of his reviews was on CNN Showbiz live. He always blabbers on like he thinks he's funny and has an annoying female reviewer smiling coyly with him and laughing at his "jokes" on his TV reviews. He even goes so far as to say in his review that (in his dim brained opinion) the only reason you will feel touched and pained over the characters' plights in Episode 3 is because of John William's music. Wow. He even takes a poser-worthy pre-emptive dig at all the early positive reviews. Way to buck 'the man' Travers. :rolleyes:

It's a little obvious he's biased since he says the only reason Ep 3 will gross 5 mill is because and I quote, we are "brainwashed by Lucas."

Oh yes, and what movie is Portman doing that she shaved off all her beautiful hair? She still looks cute but ever since Sinead O'Connor and Alien 3, I have had an aversion to women shaving all their hair off:

"V for Vendetta" - a new action flick from the Wachowski brot...er...brother and (sister?) about a vigilante in alternate reality communist London or something. Portman plays the vigilante's (Agent Smith from Matrix :| ) love interest.


And I know you're psyched and want to read any latest news and reviews you can on Episode 3, but not everyone is going to like this thing.Not everyone will get it. It's always interesting to read other opinions,just make sure you have some of your own...I'd never ask a friend of mine who plays nothing but sports games (Madden, all of the ESPN,series,etc.) what he thinks of the latest Final Fantasy game and vice versa. People just have different tastes.
