That's one way to look at it. The 1 to 1 Jedi to Sith ratio (Emperor; Vader<> Yoda ; Obi) but then again other Jedi are out there. If you look at the Force as Dark/Light = Evil/Good then Vader totally unbalanced things but later in Return of the Jedi Vader restored balance by eliminating the Emperor so the prophecy does apply to him. One I like best about this last (third) chapter is that it actually justifies the first 2 prequels and make RotJ feel even more important.

Yeah, that's why he was able to come up with Grevious so fast. He can foresee things and always has an evil contingency plan. But his over confidence in his ability to see the future shorts out and does him in at the conclusion of RoTJ.

However, I agree that it's sort of out of place to see the Death Star being constructed in front of a young Tarkin and Vader. I mean, it takes 20 years to construct the first Death Star but the 2nd one just takes a couple?

Also, Beru and Owen sure age terribly in their 40s don't they? :p

Also, I'll bet the actor who played Owen is happy he got in the last shot since I read a lot of his scenes and dialogue with Anakin were cut in AoTC.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask this earlier. Was I the only person who saw the Millenium Falcon on Corruscant near the beginning when Anakin lands to meet the politicians. It's there. It's sweet.

Or as Cow says, it's fanservice.

Actually, I don't think it's fear of love or family so much as just general weakness. The Jedi strike me as so insecure in their ability to resist the Dark Side that they feel they must cut themselves off from any temptation, however small, for fear that they might not be strong enough to remain true to the Jedi order. They really just struck me as a bunch of rigid, close-minded pussies that were afraid of anything that might challenge their illusion of strength and purity.

Like I said, Luke proved that you can be emotional and a Jedi at the same time. If anything, Luke was a better Jedi because he was emotional.

Lucas has said in interviews that he doesn't consider the comics or novels canon- then again, some people have claimed he's said the opposite as well. But that doesn't really matter at all- if Lucas wants to make another movie, do you really think he's going to nix a plot idea he has if it counters something that was in some novel Joe Shmo wrote? Fuck that, Lucas would ignore it and do what the hell he wants.

I saw it last night of course, and I had today off from work. Paid and full. So I saw it again this morning at 10. And now it seems that I'm going to head out and catch the six tonight with a friend.

I haven't had much sleep.

But holy shit this movie is great. Not to mention the bad ass SHOCK WAVE sound at Abingdon Cinemall that could fucking kill me at any time.

See, that's a fucked up thing with the timeline that's been established...Episode 3 is only 17 years before Episode 4. I mean, Judging by how old Anakin looks in 3 Vader must only be in his late 30's in 4, which makes no sense- I mean, look at the old fart (who looked 70) playing him in the original scene in RotJ before Lucas replaced him with Hayden for the DVD. And like you said, Owen and that hottie Beru aged in dog years- guess that hot double sun is murder on your skin, huh? I'm not sure how old Obi-Wan's supposed to be in 3, but 17 years wouldn't fuck up someone THAT much, especially if they were in shape and able to do backlips 50 feet into the air and shit. Likewise with Yoda- he's 500 years old, so 17 years shouldn't make much difference, yet he goes from macking like Sonic the Hedgehog to dropping dead of old age.

BTW, they explained why C-3P0 doesn't recognize Obi-Wan (they wiped his memory), but they don't explain why R2 doesn't fill 3P0 in on what happened, or why Obi-Wan doesn't recognize C-3P0 or R2-D2. Guess his mind was really going after mastrubating alone in the desert for 17 years.

Honestly, maybe Yoda was near death the entire time. It would help explain why the Emp was so arrogant. He saw Yoda as an almost dead little green man.

The jedi order heavily reflected the concept of good that existed in the US during the Vietnam conflict.

Christians and other people who thought they were ethical were a lot like the Jedi. That hard-assness was what caused the huge back lash that was the hippie generation.

Everyone is more laid back now, making the jedi order seem sort of dumb now, but a lot of people really used to be like that.

It is actually a pretty good social comentary on living completely for your faith in something. It makes the concept of good unreachable by most people, and deadens the people who do reach it. Because they don't live their lives.

I think what Lucas originally envisioned as the Jedi has changed a lot since he introduced the concept back in '77. Originally, he based the order on the samurai, who were allowed to love and marry and flip out and all the other good stuff that Jedi are not allowed to do in the Prequels. I mean, they talk about controlling your emotions in the original trilogy, but they also encouraged you to "let go, trust your feelings" and all that. They never said "Jedi can't marry, love or care about anything."

Now it's suddenly far more rigid and emotionless. The Jedi of the Prequels seem more like Lucas decided to make a statement regarding the Catholic Priesthood. It's like he's saying that if you aren't open to any change at all then you will eventually be swept aside.

that isn't really that bad of lesson to be teaching. It is a social and cultural reality. Groups will change. Either for the better, or for the worse. Stagnation only encourages "for the worse"
