I'm just wondering if anything is ever going to come of this series ever again?
Obviously many people love this game and Chrono Cross (some people didn't like it, but I really did.) but wasn't there talk about more games from this series?
What happened to them and does anyone know anything about games in the future?
(Besides that fan project that was shut down.)
I remember talks of a third game, but I think that ended up being vaporware.
What was so good about Chrono Cross anyway? Chrono Trigger had fantastic art, fantastic music, fun gameplay, interesting characters, and a great story.
Chrono Cross had about a million interchangeable characters that were useless and a ho-hum, me-too art style. The number of characters and how pointless and random they were really hurt the game for me. If I'm going to play a pandering and linear jRPG, it better have a good story/interesting characters.

I am (still) in agreement with Mzo, regarding the negative effect the ridiculously large cast had on CC... however, the art in the game was fantastic. In fact, CC's saving grace was its presentation -- the graphics, character artwork, and music were all absolutely stunning.
CC wasn't a bad game, by any means, but it could've been better.

Back in June I tried out CT (PS release) figuring that I'd love the game to death. To this day, I cannot understand why people laud this game so highly.
Are my feelings of disappointment a result of 2004 game bias (I assume it was more impressive if played at release)? Or is CT an overrated game to begin with?
CT is my favorite RPG of all time, although I could be kind of biased because it was the first RPG I ever bought back when it first came out....but Chrono Cross definately sucks compared to the original.

No. Well, sorta. The story started out awesomely, but as the game went on and on the story took more and more of a backseat to everything else until it all but disappeared. Perhaps it kicked back in later in the game but I lost patience and stopped playing. I liked those games, but I don't exactly take the adolescents saving the world stories that seriously anyway (and hey, CC has plenty of that to go around anyway). Definitely the best RPG of its kind in my book.
Chrono Trigger > Chrono Cross
That much is certain. Cross wasn't as "personal" as Chrono Trigger was--you cared about Crono, Lucca, Magus, etc. What Cross did retain though was a fun combat system with combo attacks (there should of been more combinations, Suikoden beats it in this regard). The story got really convoluted and basically made Chrono Trigger's ending moot. I did enjoy the game overall and it is one of the better RPGs on the Playstation.
Chrono Cross > Chrono Trigger. Like, its not even close. Better art, battle system, and storyline. It ties into the original Trigger and expands upon it but doesnt undermine it. And it has some great WOAH revelations near the end.
People who bitch about the zillions of characters are really missing the point, theyre missing the forest for the trees. Only two characters in the game mattered, and they gave you the option of using all these other guys for, mainly, the battle system (which was amazing). If you dont like that, thats cool, but its hardly a problem with the game, as the two that mattered were well-fleshed out and did what they needed to do.
Cross was the last JRPG I beat and there's a reason for that, it makes everything else just look stupid and shitty.
As for more Chrono games... who needs 'em? I am fine with what we got.
I think CT was better than CC. I still liked CC a lot. It had cool characters, some were lame but it just was interesting to me. The story was neat and a good addition I thought to the Chrono Trigger fans. Chrono Trigger still was an awesome game and I liked it better than Chrono Cross, as I said.
I think they could do a nice Chrono Trigger sequel in 3-D but as it is always said, maybe it's best not to mess with things that are already great. If that's how you think then CT dies a great game but it could be a great series. At least I would think.
The whole Glenn in Chrono Cross being frog thing probably made me play the game more than I was going too. Just because it was interesting. I don't even remember the truth to this. Also weren't people saying the magic dude was Magus or something?

They canned future production because every time it came up, the design teams started squabbling over whether CT or CC was a better game

I like both Chrono games equally. Chrono Trigger is my favorite SNES RPG by the longest shot and I still have fun playing it. My girlfriend never played it so I'm looking forward to watching her go through and uncover the story to see her reactions to some of the funny/sad/interesting stuff. I loved all the characters in Chrono Cross and I had a lot of fun playing through enough to get every character possible. The story was insane, too, and I had no problem with the artwork. In addition, some of the music in the game is better than anything before or after it, to me.
Glenn in CC is probably a descendant of Glenn from CT. A lot of people think Guile is Magus, but there's no real evidence to prove it. The J game doesn't count.
If Nintendo wanted to get a great game out of Square that Sony hasn't capitalized on they'd be good to get the Chrono Trigger franchise.

CC for $15 is great man. The music alone is worth that much, and the game has fantastic visuals, and pretty deep characters. Plus, the plot has intrigue in it.
I liked the multiple characters. None of them were incredibly deep, but there was atleast 2 that you could really like. I liked Karsh and the blacksmith guy. I also enjoyed being able to dodge your enemies (ala CT) too. Both games are awesome RPGs.

Chrono Cross is great, but I prefer CT. It has the best videogame music ever, and perhaps the best gameplay of any RPG.

I don't see the hate to CC from some guys. While it sure ain't Chrono, it's more than another RPG that takes Chrono's name to follow the saga. it has so many twists, plot heavy and many chars, but i like the fight system and i sure like the artwork. And the music is nice too...
