Fat in my HDD

So, I'd noticed that I was getting really low on space, and I went into my Add/Remove programs manager, and I found something strange.

Windows XP Hotfix - KB821253 57.44mb

It has an icon that looks like a little computer next to it, and there are about 19 of them in a row (with different KB8 numbers)

then, under that there is:


Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) [see Q307869 for more information] with no filesize listed. The icon next to it is the AVG icon, and there are about 25 of them in a row, all with different numbers.

then, under that is:

Windows XP Hotfix (SP1) Q329170 with no filesize listed. This has the little computer icon again, and there are about 5 of them.




Whatever the fuck all of this is, is taking up way too much room on my hardrive, and everytime I want to remove one it says "This will remove Windows XP Q329187 (or whatever) and restore the previous configuration." I have a feeling I don't want the previous configuration though.



What the hell should I do?

Those are updates from windows.

Can I safely get rid of them? They are taking up a shitload of space.

Um, only if you think that those updates from windows are unnescary. I think you can probably check out microsofts update site to see what those hotfixes actually are and delete them if you think they are unnecesary.

I would also suggest that you turn off auto-update if you dont want to worry about this in the future.

I can't remember the name of the feature, but there's some thing under Properties of My Computer somewhere (Drive Monitor? I dunno.) and if you turn that off you'll miraculously have a shitload of space.

Well fuck. If anyone knows about this miraculous feature, help a brotha out.

If you really want to delete all the security updates for windows I suppose you could do that. Or switch to ramen for a week, and save up money for a new HD. How much are they these days... fifty bucks?

Its called system restore, and you don't need it. Right click "my computer" (unless you named it something leet) and look for the system restore tab.

Also, cka posted a thread about CCleaner. You should get that too. First time I ran it it got rid of 1.6 gigs worth of old bullshit.

I had 258 mb of free space before I installed CCleaner. I then installed and ran it, and now I have THREE POINT SEVEN gigs of free space.

Fuckin' right!

They're not very much. I got a 250 GB for about a hundred, so I'd imagine something like a 40 or 50GB would be cheap.
