Only kidding. We are all entitled to our own opinions, even if they are wrong ;)
Heck, I'm sure there are people on these boards that won't agree with me saying GTA2 on Dreamcast is a steaming pile of goose poo.

oh no...if somebody argues that fact, they are in fact a said "steaming pile of goose poo" :)Quote:

Alien Front Online. what a boring game.
I'll second that Kinopio.
Sonic Shuffle is a nightmare.
At a friend's New Year's Eve party we played it, and God, was that a mistake. After 15 minutes we were dying. All I remember are the moans and pleas to turn it off.
not the worst games,
but a travesty to gaming in general:
Daytona and
PSO
-absolutely insultory to fans of those franchises!
I liked Seventh Cross... :( Also liked GTA2, just not the DC version, which was indeed horrible.
As for worst DC game, let's see.
Soul Fighter
TNN Motorsports Hardcore 4X4
Slave Zero
Omikron
Sonic Shuffle
Who Wants to Beat up a Millionaire
Deep Fighter

Death Crimson 2

I am forgeting some, I am sure....
DC games didn't get any crappier than Maken X. Unintuitive control and THE WORST MUSIC EVER.
Super Runabout was a pretty awful Crazy Taxi-derivitave game as well.
There were two Tomb Raider games for DC. That should answer the question. Almost all the other games listed are masterpieces in comparison.

I've been a diehard fan of Phantasy Star since I played the first one right after it came out on my little SMS, and I LOVE PSO.
Yeah, I'd been a fan since SMS PS, and I can't see for the life of me why PSO is a Phantasy Star game, other than to initialize the succes of an online RPG. As a Phantasy Star game, PSO is completely weak, what with no significant story.Quote:

You may LOVE the game, Shidoshi, but PSO is not Phantasy Star, and should really have been given an original name as the start of a new franchise. Instead Sega choose to manipulate the legendary status of Phantasy Star so that an established fan base would buy-in on their new PsuedoPhantasyStar franchise.
Mag Force Racing anyone? Thats the game that is going for a penny now, right?
Seventh Cross Evolution is fine example of "Great Idea, Poor Execution".
Mag Force really did suck... but I had fun with Slave Zero... (*cries in the corner*)
I nominate the Tom Clancy games.

suckaaaaa!!!
You're not alone. I ended up using cheat codes every once in a while during the later levels because I was rather frustrated with the cheap placement of enemies while platform jumping, but I still had fun and absolutely LOVED that last boss! That thing was incredible!Quote:

If you can get past the attrocious slow down Slave Zero had some ACE gameplay IMO. It was not all it could have been admittedly. (it's a dream of mine to make a Slave Zero the way it SHOULD HAVE been, with lots of panic in the cities, the ability to destroy EVERYTHING.. ala Mechassault coming for Xbox and the ability to use random objects as weapons. Oh, and kill the slowdown and add a hover like in GunValkyrie). Here's to a sequel that fixes that - Mechassault + GunValkyrie = Tracer Bullet presents Tracer Bullets' Slave Zero 2.
ºTracer
I like Slave Zero, although I prefer the PC version over the DC one because the aiming is easier.
Dudes, why has no one mentioned The Ring? It's a travesty!
I-Spy: Operation Espionage isn't going to win any awards, either. At least, not good ones.
I'll end my trilogy of suckiness with Sonic Shuffle, a game that is fine technically (nice cel-shading) but that suffers from the most boring, pointless, brain-killing gameplay I've ever seen.
I-Spy... good choice, as is The Ring. Both horrible games. In fact, I though "The Ring" when I saw the topic, but got distracted by the hate for Slave Zero.
I never played Sonic Shuffle.. that's a real disappointment to hear.
I'm suprised on the amount of actually passable to only somewhat mediocre games listed here when games like The Ring are unlisted despite being an attrocity.
The PC version of Slave Zero was fine. Much easier.. but the game was easy as it stands IMO. I like the added challange on DC. It made the game a bit more immersive.
ºTracer
I Spy also falls into the same catagory as Seventh Cross Evolution.
It could have been great, but alas, it was not meant to be.
Nope, I said that. I hate the Tomb Raider games more than just about any gaming series these days. That's not to say there aren't games that I find worse than Tomb Raider(*cough*Rise of the Robots*cough*) but I can't think of any that bad for DC.Quote:

You can like them all you want. I still think they're crap.
Says who? Some of the original people who made Phantasy Star worked on PSO, it had some of the same races (Numan, Android), it had many of the same items and technologies. The same can be said about Phantasy Star 3. Technically, one of the biggest connections it had to the other PS titles was that it was an RPG.Quote:

Sure, I would have loved it had PSO had more collections to the original games. The game could have taken place on Palma, Motavia, and Dezores. No reason it couldn't have. We could have had more connections, like the Musk cats and so on. That still doesn't make PSO not a Phantasy Star title.
If Sega had gotten together a totally new crew with no history with PS, and put together a game that had NO feeling of connection, and a game that didn't fit having the name PS - a game like Metal Gear Solid for example - THEN I could argue the point. But there is enough PS in PSO to make it not a case of just using a francise name to sell a product.
Gah!Quote:

The only way it is not Phantasy Star, is the way the game plays. Instead of a traditional RPG like PS it is an action RPG. The game has many enemies from past Phantasy Star games, weapons and money system. If you ask me, 3 is more of a departure from the series, than PSO.
On to the subject. Time Stalkers was a poor excuse for an RPG. Your character would not keep it's level, upon completion of a dungeon. What a piss poor idea, and it made you wonder if the people that made the game had any idea what playing an RPG was about.
World Series Baseball 2k1 was the worst WSBB game ever. The Saturn and even Genesis versions of World Series were a better game of baseball.
The only way PSO can rise from status of worst Dreamcast Game Ever is if Sega develops a traditional PhantasyStar RPG for the current or future crop of consoles.
mmm, an analogy: Say you're a diehard MarioFan, and Nintendo released Luigi's Mansion as the continuation of that franchise -there are those who could argue it is still a Mario game. Yet, of course that is not an issue because we all know Nintendo has a traditional Mario near relese. Consider that there was no hint that MarioSunshine or any other was to be developed,--only Mario's Brother's Mansion 2 was the only evidence of the Mario series' continuation. As a diehard Mario fan I would be pretty dissapointed at the prospect of never again playing a traditonal Mario romp through the garden. I might even vehemently dislike the Mario's Brother's Mansion game because it represents the departure and end of a beloved series of games.
Going back to my first post:
PSO and Daytona may not be the worst games
Sure we all know worst refers to crappiest playing game on the Dreamcast.-(or maybe crappiest graphics to some).
Please allow my response as a matter of fact, as I am shaing with you the worst game playing experiences I've encountered on Dreamcast.
I've enough sence to stay away from games like Spirit of Speed.
GBA gives me hope there may again be an original traditional Phantasy Star. But as for PSO, if I care to play an ARPG, I'll play Landstalker, or Record of Lodoss War.
thank you!
I couldn't have summed it up any better myself :pQuote:

Okay, let's play with the idea of Mario.
Were you around for Mario Bros.? As in, the original? "Somethin's gummin' in the plumbin', poor Luigi's in a bind..." Mario Bros.?
When Super Mario Bros. hit, the game was NOTHING like the original Mario Bros. game. Yet it was still classified as part of the series. Would you say that Super Mario shouldn't be considered to be a Mario title?
But, let's say that you do consider Super Mario to be a Mario title. What about Mario 64? Again, the game changed COMPLETELY. You went from a 2D sidescrolling platformer to a 3D adventure game where the style of gameplay and objectives were completely changed around. Yet it, too, was still considered to be a Mario title. Would you say that Mario 64 isn't a Mario game?
If you would call Super Mario Bros. a Mario title, and Mario 64 a Mario title, then I can't see how you can say PSO is not a Phantasy Star title.
I cant believe this wasnt mentioned yet...
Wild Metal. What a horrendous(sp?) excuse for a game. I cant believe I got this based on a review by ECM. Complete and udder trash.
Oh, and Ive had alot of fun with Daytona USA. It may not be up to par with previous Daytona games, but it plays fun, and is a blast with other people. I cant imagine Daytona making it into a worst ever catagory. Diff'rent strokes I s'pose.
Z-roe
Here's an even easier analogy. Is the first two Gun Survivor games part of the RE series? They don't play anything like the RE series, obviously, but they still retain the feel, ambience, and style of them, though the gameplay is lacking. Then again, that's how I feel about the 'real' RE series.
PSO obviously isn't PS4, but it's not supposed to be. And calling it one of the worst games on DC... I think you need to buy a new dictionary because it doesn't even come close to worst. Evil Dead is worst. Everything else is practically a blessing.
I played PSO myself for 60 hours before the cheaters took over all the servers, turning it into a mess. Most of that was a fun experience, though a bit repetitive. Taking out bosses in a group was always a blast and most people were pretty friendly. I have high hopes for the Xbox version of PSO.
BTW, Lugi's Mansion is a part of the Mario franchise, but it's not a continuation of the main games like Mario Sunshine will be. I didn't think this was a matter of speculation. After all, it's Lugi in there calling for Mario... How can you say there's no connection?
first off,
F**k you shidoshi.
really, I wasn't looking for an argument. -just an opportunity to express my dissatisfaction with two games that had been eagerly looked forward to. Thanks for exending that opportunity into a discertation of my interpretation of the word worst.
And f-you for being a pompous prick.
I hear that. The Mario series is always changing, but, nonetheless, each new addition retains certain aspects of the previous games before it.Quote:

I didn't turn this into an "argument." It continued to be a discussion.
I didn't say your opinion was absolutely wrong, I just wanted clarification on why you felt that way.
I didn't call you names, I didn't start using insults to back up my side, and I didn't just pull nonexistant ideas or facts out of my ass.
So, if you don't mind, I'd rather you NOT start getting insulting towards me or use such language towards me if I've done nothing to deserve it.
Tomb Raider titles- only because of crap port job. Let's see, higher resolution in exchange for sub 30 FPS, slowdown, glitchy polys etc. No offense, nearly every Eidos DC title was a insult to the system's power, they just used it as a PSX emulator to make some more cash.
Maxmium Pool- How the hell do you screw up a pool game???
Dragonriders: Chronicles of Pern- horrible basic adventure title and what's that? The game is completely 3D but there's no camera control whatsoever? Good job asses.
Exhibition of Speed- Never played but you may remember this Titus racer being canned in the US last year. Some Euro players claim the A.I. is so bad that you can force a opponent into a fence and they'll attempt to keep driving.
Blue Stinger- boring
Illbleed-boring
Timestalkers-boring (note to Climax: you've really gone downhill)
Also not a big fan of Cannon Spike, I was so hyped by Gamefan's review of it and it's really basic, poor music and far too short. If this game was set up like say, MERCS I think it could have been better. *-neo
*-neo
Shidoshi's 100% on the money.
I think what you're failing to understand about Phantasy Star and just game series' in general, eldodo, is the concept of atmosphere.
And besides, saying "fuck you Shidoshi" didn't do you any good other than to admit that you were wrong and couldn't think of something to say back to him.
Also, Jet Grind Radio, Bangai-O, Virtual On, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and King of Fighters Evolution. I don't give a fuck how hardcore they are.
"fuck you shidoshi" is more about my general appretiation for the guy

I mean come on, the guy has pretensions about what sheets we'd expect him to have...
I'll not hide from the fact that I'm a fully capable fool -partially hence the name. But I stand by my original tongue-in-cheek post and rebut the assertion that I'm unaware of atmosphere. Atmosphere is a more subjective criterea than worst. Personally the lack of sound effects for enemies quite stiffled any submertion in the franchises atmosphere. And as such further contributed to my disgust with PSO.
piss off Stibbons.
what you're failing to understand is that I offered my opinion of the worst games I've experience on Dreamcast. How can I be wrong?
*where's the Smilie for the middle finger?*

The man, the myth, the legend, the showstopper, the icon, the main event, the one the ladies came to see and all the guys want to be, the standard to which all aspire, the king of all video and anime media, the living legend himself, Big Daddy Doshi.
But, you know, I don't expect people to remember the whole thing their first time. I'm a good guy - I'll let your lack of knowing it all slip this time.
Or, for convenience, using the phrase "shidoshi = rockstar" to refer to me is also acceptable.
shidoshi can be pompous and his avatar is gay....
but he is right about PSO and in my 6 months on this board i have never witnessed a lamer argument.:D
Yes, shamefully, I was aware of that while I attempted to spiel out that Mario analogy. But I'd been pressed to substantiate my inflamatory statement of PSO being an insult to fans of the series. and I don't care for shidoshi -so I had to butt heads.Quote:

PSO is in no way an insult to gamers. Using your analogy of PSO, I'd have to say that Phantasy Star 2 was insult to the first Phantasy Star, as one was a dungeon crawler in first person view, while the other was an overhead view, and a departure from the first. Does that make it a bad game? Not even close. Many consider PSO to be one of their favorite games on the DC and it is'nt even close to being a bad game. PSO was on plenty of magazine editors current favorites lists for months after it came out. PSO is about online gaming, and in this sence, it shines for what it was and is still today, an online RPG.
So Sega made a spin off. Big deal. It was only an incredibly succesful online rpg on a dead system, but it was clearly a bad game because it wasn't Phantasy Star 5. It was almost as bad as Super Mario Bros. - damn, could they have destroyed everything the Donkey Kong series stood for any worse?

And f-you for being a pompous prick.
Well, I thankfully have been able to avoid most of the DC's craptacular games, and I've really only had the displeasure of playing one:
Time Stalkers: What the hell was Climax thinking here? Bastardizing the memory of some of my favorite characters from their games over the years by sticking them in this incredibly mediocre overhead, randomized-dungeon game.
The graphics weren't even 1st-generation DC quality, more like mid-generation PSX quality.
The camera was horrid, when you were moving forward in the dungeon it would constantly lag behind you and you'd be perpetually running into traps before you even had the OPPORTUNITY to search for them.
The battle system was slow and boring. The game was inanely repetetive. And the story was utter nonsense.
About the best things I could say about the game were the nice, old-skool, hand-drawn portraits of the characters when they spoke and some decent music. But for Climax and the high-standard they have set for themselves in the past, this game was a travesty, the most disappointing, and thankfully, the only bad Dreamcast game I've ever played, really.
