The Grudge - US Remake Official Thread
Well, Its October and its time for the studios to release their horror offerrings to the public craving for a good scare. In this case we have an US remake of Japanese horror film Ju-on. Unlike many other remakes (like The Ring), this time the studio even gets the director of the original production, on board, to try to do an americanized version. Still from what I've seen, the plot does follow the same storyline like it was in the original, and it set in Japan, which strangely, seems to filled with American characters :p
But what important, that creepy, unsettling mood and atmosphere still there. The ghost apperances, are still creepy, even with enchanced sfx, and bigger budged. I am not big fan of Buffy, aka Gellar, but she seems to be ok in this, at least in the clips of the film that I've seen over past few weeks.
Here is review of the film by Ebert. One star and usual bitching about horror film conventions and stupidity of the characters. Hmm, and last week I wanted to cut this guy some slack for getting more respect for horror genre, but alas, it wasnt Ebert who wrote that piece.
Anyway, here is review: http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/.../40922015/1023
"The house is not particularly creepy from an architectural point of view, and if it didn't have a crawl space under the eaves, the ghosts would have to jump out from behind sofas."
I find this quote rather stupid. So what if the house is not your "conventional" creepy old mansion. Here the horror is in the things that the evil can be living in your conventional suburban house, that is exactly like many others. Whole point here, is that people are living their normal, urban life, and then weird, strange things start happen, that dont have rational definitions. I dont believe that he bitched about similar things in The Ring, but then again, it did had a "creepy" old farmhouse. Oh whatever.
Anyway, If you going to see this, then stop by and share some impressions :)
