Here is my bi-monthly 1 post at TNL. :)
Genesis was freaky exciting in the 90's! Here are the games I grew especially fond of:
- Super Monaco GP. Not part 2 which is busted. Great pole-position style racing with surprising depth, I love the comments from teammates & rivals. "You're not suitable for the team" indeed, BAH!
- Streets of Rage 1 and 2. They play differently and have different qualities of visuals, but both are fun 2d beatups with rockin' poppin' musical score that can even get lead-foot Cafeman up & dancing. (SOR3 is good too but more rehash). SOR2 is my favorite 2D beatup ever.
- Sonic the Hedgehog 1,2,3. Great fun feel to the gameplay and each is slightly different the prior one and good tunes too. All have fun bonus rounds too! And Ristar is an amazing game too, glad Sega woke up and included the little guy as a toy in Shenmue and then a game in Collection.
- Shinobi games, all of 'em. Revenge, the dog one, and Shinobi III.
- Flashback! I love a good adventure title and this is especially unique -- no scrolling, but flip-screen action! (dating back to 2600 Pitfall and CV Smurf!). Love that roto-scoped animation and the ... gasp ... cinemas! Remember seeing that for the first time?
- Ecco the Dolphin. I don't know why but this game really appealed to me and still does. An adventure game feature a fresh new "mascot", a dolphin, thankfully one which doesn't quip cool sayings. I like reading the responses of the sea creatures and the puzzles and action and hearing the soft music which produces an often sad, melancholy type of feel. Die, Vortex scum!
- Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy both live up to the "Treasure fanboy hype". Great and bizarre games. EDIT addition -- I really enjoy Earthworm Jim, too.
- Finally, shooters: MUSHA is my official favorite shooter of all time. Compile really outdid themselves with this one. Thunderforce 3 and Lightening Force are great horizontal shooters (SHMUPS! snicker). And I also enjoy a round or two of TOZ-manipulation in Gaiares. These 4 shooters are must-plays IMHO.

You're wrong. ;) It's Ghouls 'n Ghosts on Genesis not Ghosts 'n Goblins. Maybe you're thinking of the NES.Quote:
