Let's talk about the best of the best Genesis games

Dave Halverson may have praised Chakan, but I remember Eric Mylonas praising it. Didn't Gamefan have a big article about the "Dreamcast Chakan"? I think ECM liked it beause he likes impossibly difficult games! (whatever happened to DC Chakan anyway?)

I think the best of the best Genesis games are:

Sonic the Hedgehog series: I used to love playing this game when I was younger, and I still pop it in on occasion(Sonic 2 or S&K I mean). I love this series because of its fast gameplay, characters, and music.

Streets of Rage series: I like the SoR series because each of them added something new to the already spread-out game engine. That and its diffculty and music. IMO this was actually one of the first series to feature GOOD music (first was Megaman IMO) My favorite out of the bunch is probably number 2. But number 3 has the most/best characters.

Gunstar Heroes: This game is very addictive, and a fun-ass shooter, but damn is it too short. I once beat it in half an hour. But that doesn't keep this game from having fun boss fights, cool weapons, and great level designs.

Shining Force: The first strategy game I actually played; it has difficulty that whoops your ass and keeps you coming back. The only thing going against it were the repetitive-ass spells(Bolt for instance)

Comix Zone: I admit I never got far in this game, but it was pretty cool. Sketch had many moves to use, many enemies to fight.

I don't watch a movie because it has a good soundtrack.

The new issue of Play has a homage to the Genny. Very cool read.

And now I have a reason to get Play. Cool.

It's not that bad, just very, very mediocre. Nothing original, innovative, or really impressive.

Like Fable?

I didn't think Comix Zone was one of the best of the best games (and I *did* beat it). It was cool and had a great style, but it could've definitely been better than it was.

Some of the level design was kinda iffy.

Pretty much anything I could have listed was already listed. I'll throw out some more love for Shadowrun though. That game needs a comeback in a big way.

Oh, and I didnt notice Gaiares(sp?), which I also loved.

Comix Zone gets way more praise than it deserves. The theme and look of the game are unique, but that whole comic book gimmick is the only thing the game has going for it. My favorite thing about this game are the paper airplanes you can throw and the cheesy "I'M DROWING!!" voice samples during the last boss.

I know it's already been mentioned, but Master of Monsters. MoM got so much playtime from me, my brother, and some friends. Entire days and even some nights were wasted playing this thing.

MoM is a hex based strategy game based in a fantasy world of monsters. It is very simple to learn, and loads of fun to play. If you need to kill some time waiting for Halo 2 or Half Life 2, get some friends together and give Master of Monsters a try.
