I actually plan to see the movie now. I like the tone of the game, it's got a nice, different soundtrack, and a good style.
Played some of the modes now, they aren't bad at all. Checkpoint is totally standard checkpoint racing, but Destructor is a bit more fun. It's pretty much Big & Veiny from GTA3, every cone you take out adds a second or two to your time, so if you miss a few traffic cones along the way you aren't totally screwed. Quite fun.
Turns out Challenge mode is something you unlock somehow. Haven't done it yet, but then again I've only done about 5 levels of the story mode and each of the other modes, so I imagine it'll open up soon enough.
One thing I will say- 32 bit still isn't enough for good 3D graphics. Textures are pretty chunky if you don't use texture smoothing, and even with they're still pretty rough. Doesn't make the game any less fun, though.

Chunky textures?
I've been playing this game straight everyday at work when I have a minute.
I'm on the last Turin mission in mission mode, and did all of the London missions in Destructor. I've never been a fan of 3D, especially pre Dreamcast 3D, but for a PSX game, this is very nice in my opinion. The amount of detail in the environments is incredible. Unlike Driver 2 you can have three vehicles onscreen without massive slowdown. the cars are decent enough, and the damage is cool.I was farting around in free mode in what I think looks like a Cobra, and I made the front tire fall off.It was cool as hell, there were sparks and the car pulled heavily to the side that the tire was missing from.
The two major downsides are the music, which I find incredibly annoying (I leave the game on demo when I'm not playing it, and I've had customers mention how bad the music is); and the loading times. They are horrible. Especially in Destructor. There are some missions where the loading is longer than the mission itself.
I've suggested this game to everyone who walks in the store looking for something different. So far no one has come back and thrown it at me. That's always a good sign.
I'd have to agree on the cops thing. There have been times where I'm being chased adn go through alley ways and such, twisting and turning, but can't lose the cops. Then there are times where I'm just going up a straight street and they all of a sudden disappear.
I don't know, I can see how this might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I was quite impressed with it, and like it alot.
Although you are essentially racing from point A to B, the amount of vehicles and the size of the city is enough to keep it from getting stagnant.
Just watch out for the mission where you have to turn out traffic cameras. It's quite hard.
