Maybe the monster is different for each person. The monster is a manifestation of the persons past sins, etc. Eko confronted his and was spared but if Charlie had been there he would have been killed by Eko's monster. Locke confronted his already but the second time, when he was dragged into a hole, it was not his monster but someone else's. Just a thought. I wonder what Libby's backstory is...
Tonight's episode was awesome. I just fucking wish Eko went with them to look for Michael. He would've whooped ass.

Tonights ep was better, but this show still pisses me off. How do they have the others right there and then not ask them ANYTHING about the island, or getting off the island?
BECAUSE JACK IS A FIXER AND SAWER GOT A HAIRCUT! LOLOST IS THE BEST SHOW EVER!
That was the one big problem I had. Had furface told me that it was their island, I would have been like, "Hey, you know, fuck your island, we'd love to leave, but blowing up our boat didn't help that any! You get us a way off, and we'll be more than happy to vacate this place."Quote:

Barring that, they should have tried their best to grill him about more things, like what the hell is going on with the island, how they got there, etc. It does work with Jack's character, though - he tends not to do the smart thing in the situation, and instead be a hothead and get pissy if things aren't going the way he wants them to go.
Excellent point. If they are "letting" them stay on the island, why were they so violent (blowing up the raft) when they were trying to get off of it? You'd think they'd be happy to let them go.Quote:

What a knuckle head Jack is. Way more questions needed to be asked instead of playing hardball. I was excited when fur-face said "we need to talk." I was expecting all kinds of cool stuff to be revealed. NOPE. And I think the reason the others went after the raft was pretty obvious. Walt was in a vulnerable position and they nabbed him. I want to know the story of why the others want to get all of the children...
I also had a thought about why the black smoke monster didn't take echo. He has killed a lot of people, even though they were all bad except the old man. Maybe the smoke monster doesn't want people with evil in them.
kevincal read teh first post on this page--ecko has redeemed himself--he no longer holds evil in his heart. Redemption was what the whole episode was about.
Obviously if it were any of us, as others in the thread have said, we would logically say "Hey, you want to keep your weird little tropical netherworld here? Fine. Just let us leave, alright?" "Or what the heck is going on here?!" But Jack already did that with Desmond remember?Quote:

However, on other arc-based shows I have enjoyed such as Babylon 5, whenever one of the main heroes like Sheridan or Garibladi would manage to finally corner a bad guy, they would either drill them till they gave some info or even beat it out of them or be willing to put their lives on the line until they got some clarification on what was happening behind the scenes (except this didn't always work with Kosh of course :p ).
I also think Jack just does not care about finding out about what is happening and his main concern is protection of his group. I mean, as Locke said to Kate "I just got pulled down into a hole by a thick column of smoke, I wonder what Jack thinks he saw?" But Jack never says anything about it, like many other bizarre instances he just goes right back to doing what he's doing. Again, the ONE time he did try to get an answer to "the bigger picture" was with Desmond. I think he is disgusted now and has just given up after that. What the show needs is a Will type character (from Alias) constantly trying to sniff out clues or a tough talker detective like Garibaldi. The type of TV character who goes off on little unorthodox missions on their own trying to expose the bad guys. And Locke's little hiking/hunting trips in the forest don't count.
hmmmm Still a good episode though.
There may be a psychological reason. This has happened before on other arc shows. Again, Babylon 5. The Shadows (black cloud/spider type aliens) could have overrun the station and killed everyone at any time. When Sheridan finally corners some of their followers he asks them "Why don't you just kill me?!" The answer from Justin, one of the "shadow men" was "It doesn't work that way. Someone else would just take your place!" It's interesting to think about since Jack's group is the one group they haven't stormed and destroyed. Maybe they think they can use Jack later and are trying to manipulate him sonehow? Or maybe they think they can use the group itself later somehow and that is why they are prolonging things (for now)Quote:
