I think he ended the con the way he did so that she wouldn't totally hate him, and so that he could fess up to her but still take the money to appease his partner. I think, deep inside, Sawyer is a good person, but he's gotten so far into player the part of the conman that it is now hard for him to be anything but that. Plus, I'm sure there is a lot of true to the idea that he doesn't know how to deal with people at this point, and it's easier to have everybody hate you and not expect anything of you than to try to be friends and live up to the expectations that come with that.Quote:

I'm sure it was also a power play in the way that he now has bargaining chip to play so that he isn't just expected to follow along with whatever plan is decided upon by Jack and Locke. Those two will now have to work with him if they want the guns back.
Sawyer wasn't the best guy in the world in season one, but almost nobody actually made an effort to treat him with any respect. And then in last night's episode, Jack is STILL just doing as he pleases and not trying to actually deal with Sawyer. Jack could have gone and talked to Sawyer like a man about the pills, and try to solve the problem that way, but he didn't. So while I don't agree with what Sawyer did, I understand why he did it.
