Lost

Lost could possibly be the best show currently on TV, and it’s making its way on top my top 10 favorite TV shows ever.

For those of you who don't know what Lost is about, it’s about an airplane crashing on an island with only 45-50 people surviving. Now this isn't any ordinary island, this island has some sort of mystery behind it.

I highly suggest people start watching this show if you haven't already. It has already shown 5 episodes, all which have been excellent. The plot, the characters, the emotion, they all come together and form one of the best written TV shows.

ABC - Lost

The best show on TV right now is Rescue Me, and no one cares about it, either.

I agree. Good, good show. Interesting premise, solid acting, cool locale and intriguing storyline. I havent watched this week episode yet, but 4 before definately were good.

Until 24 is back this January, this will be pretty much only TV worthy watching, at least for me. (And damn, they did canceled Hawaii :(. Sure it was flash and no substance, but at least it was entertaining, and not fucking Reality tv bullshit, or god damn CSI wanna be)

So it looks to me like only one other person watches this show. What a shame.

The beast is man. Duh.

I like it, but it is very confusing. I guess that's the point though. Makes you watch more and more....

I DLed the first 5, or was it 4, I forget.

I'll give it 5 and if it's not good, then you all can go hump midgets for all I care.

Another reference I could make to the source material is that I want to crush Chronicle's head with a rock.

I've watched it for the most part. I saw the first and second episodes. I believe they had an encore showing of 4 and 5 tonight, which I watched. The show has promise, but I have a feeling they'll drag it on for far too long and it won't last another season.

Well, I don't know how much you know about the show, but each episode takes place in at most one to two days, so a full 22 eps. season would only amount to 44 days in the story. Depending on where they plan on taking the story, they could take it at their leisure. They also plan on showing a lot of flashbacks (as they have been) about the survivor's lives pre-crash, and show how they all might be tied together in ways unbeknowest to them. As if the survivors weren't just random, but predestined.

There are a whole buncha theories about the show too, like they aren't alive, but dead, and in a sort of purgatory, where their fears are manifested on the island, like that giant monster thing, which I hope isn't the case, as that kinda makes the show seem like a cop-out. Or this one that this whole thing was the dream or illusion of a passenger, and that they're dreaming or seeing all this right before the inevitable plane crash.

I don't believe either, and hope they're not true. I think it'd be much more interesting if this all was truth.

I missed a few eps., so I'll have to catch up but this show, Jack and Bobby, Kevin Hill and Entourage are my favorite shows this season, along with Dead Like Me and Smallville.

either one of those theories would suck. but im convinced whatever it ends up being will suck. that way im not disappointed.

I haven't heard of any of those theories, but those seem like the easy way to answer all the questions. With the type of story the writers have given us, my expectations are really high for a good ending to this show.

I can't imagine it carrying on longer than a season, unless the writers keep coming up ways to keep the audience interested with new and fresh plots, or new developments in the story.

I have caught every episode. I hope when they show Hurley's flashback it's some everyday shit ...eating fruit loops, listening to Fat Joe on his iPod, going to the skate park.

Tonight's episode was very interesting. We got to see Sun's flashbacks which showed how she and Jin got married and lived life. What I thought was interesting was that he was maybe murdering people for Sun's father. I quickly tried to make a connection thinking maybe he killed Jack's father, but they were in different locations. Anyways, we also got to see Locke and Charlie communicate, which added to more hints. Hints to what? I don't know, but it seems like every time Locke opens his mouth he says something with a hidden message.

As for Jin fighting with Michael, which looked monstrous might I add, I really thought Jin did it becase he saw Sun (his wife) while she was bathing, but it ended up being for that watch. I liked how that concluded with Sun revealing that she knows how to speak English, and she explained with Michael what had happened.

I really, really felt sorry for Sun when it came down to making that decision on whether to leave her husband or not, and then Jin busts out the flower which clinched of her choice to go with him. That was the second most emotional scene in the series so far (first being Locke's legs being paralyzed and then magically his legs being fine after the crash) and it got me to like them, but before I really thought they were just a nuisance.

Jack seems like he thinks they will live on the island forever. Going into the forest is bound to cause problems as it showed in the preview, so I really can't see them staying in that cave very long. Speaking of the cave, we got to see "Adam and Eve." Locke adds so much more to this show with his remarks. It'll be interesting to see if the writers will work with this "Adam and Eve" remark or if they'll leave it alone.

Overall, a great episode, and like always, I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next, but it seems like more questions are being asked then answered, so sooner or later we need some answers. Did anyone else notice Clarie, Boone, and Shannon weren't in tonight's episode? I found that strange, they needed some exposure tonight. They could of been used when it came down to deciding whether to leave for the caves or stay.

I had to work late, so I missed this episode. Hopefully, they'll have an encore on Saturday, like they did last weekend.

Is any one still watching this? After some questionable moments in the last few weeks (Charlie coming back to life, Boone's hallucination, the whole Sawyer episode) they rebounded last week with a pretty good episode.

I didn't see it but my friend said he saw Hurley on the TV during Sun's husband's (I forget his name) flashback in the most recent episode. The daughter of the guy Sun's husband beat up was watching the news and apparantly Hurley was on it. So if that's true it gives a little tease of what it might be.

One had a fucked up rip, that didnt had any sound, and for other website I get the files from was down for last few days.

I missed an episode once, I don't remember which one, so I used BearShare and downloaded the episode. Quality was in excellent condition since it was taken in high definition.

I tried watching it once or twice and wasnt impressed. I expected it to be a horror thriller with a beast stalking the survivors, but it seemed to be just a "creepy" Gilligans Island with people trying to reconcile with their past, etc, - ie -boring. It seems to be all leading up to some big twist or secret which may be cool once its revealed, but all the crap leading up to it is just snooze worthy to me.

Next week's episode is gonna be sweet.
Maybe now we can get some backstory on Hurley.

Wow, what an episode. So many theories popping up with those numbers. The episode itself contained so many links to other character's flashbacks. If any of you care, I'll go into detail about the many theories I'm thinking about.

My biggest problem with this show is that it stole that old bald guy from Alias. It looks pretty good though.

Basically this is the only thing I watch on TV, because 24 has been sort of sucky this season.

Great episode this week.

I just wish they'd pick up the pace a bit...I want to know what the damn hatch is now!

Finally, I got all 3 of the latest episodes, so I will be watching them tonight and tomorrow.

I love the show, but I wish that they would stop teasing and teasing the viewers, and not really resolve anything.

I don't think that's been said before. That could also explain the cable that Sayid found which led him to Danielle. However, I doubt JJ Abrams and his creative team would go that way since it would only answer the question to what the hatch is and possible the cable. However, this doesn't answer all the other unanswered questions.

I'm obsessed with the lottery numbers. So many combinations of things they could mean. Someone on a Lost fan forum gathered all of the many possiblies what the numbers could mean:

Well, the final four episodes of the season starts this week. From the previews it looks like Locke gets done in by Sayid. Whats with the hatch?? The light turning on when Locke started pounding on it, creepy.

Finally, they are actually going to show new episodes, and no more of this rerun bullshit. Because of that I pretty much gave up, on trying to catch it, but hopefully they will follow the schedule.

I doubt that we will get many definetive answers to any of the mysteries, though. Most of the season, viewers were teased and teased again, with more mysteries piling on top of each other, without almost no explanations. Its either that writers caught up in the story loop, and not sure if they can even come up with fitting explanation, or that they plan to drag it on onto more seasons, which seems to be the case.

Do you watch the show? They made the numbers seem way more significant than just being lotto numbers. There was an entire episode dedicated to someone trying to figure out their meaning. Everyone that uses the numbers has really bad luck, and that stupid hatch has the same numbers engraved on it. Also, those same numbers were heard being transmitted from a radio on the island.

It's the T.V. equivalent to blue balls.

I can say this is the greatest TV show ever. I don't care what anyone says about not enough questions being answered, Lost is the best TV show to ever grave any television set.

Now, to get into detail on what's going on, Lost fan sites are going nuts recently with the recent discovery of an online site that shows a preview for the next season of Lost.

Not only is this show brilliant, but JJ Abrams as taking the liberty upon himself to make this website which will keep the hype of Lost alive until next season. A very wise move. The only thing that they need to do it update the site every so often.

Okay, so for non watchers, what exactly happened in the Season Finale?

And what is that in the pic? A really big blow up shot of a face and eyes? Two alien heads? Or just some titties?

haha I thought it looked like boobs too. I guess it's supposed to be scary monster eyes. I'm still not sold on that theory yet.

I thought the coolest/creepiest thing that happened was when Hurley went past the volleyball team, the jerseys had the creepy numbers on them.

Yeah, there's a bunch of "easter eggs", if you will.
The one I saw was, during the Korean's backstory, Hurley is on the TV, receiving his lottery winnings.

I know I'm kind of late in posting in this thread, but they just started airing season 1 on British TV, and so far I think it's really good.

I hear the second season is out in America too (at least the downloads are available).
How are those?

I haven't heard about any season 2 leaks. I'd be shocked if somebody snaked any Season 2 episodes. ABC has that shit on lock down.

My work schedule and videogame/relaxation time just didn't allow me to see this show this year. My brother and sis in law have been raving about it so I'm gonna get the DVD set. (I'm also so behind on Alias this year i need to get the DVDs for that too)

Also, my brother said JJ Abrams claimed in an interview that the ABC execs wanted Hurley killed off and Jorge Garcia replaced because he was "too fat/not attractive enough." Abram's said he balked at them and said A) He is not gonna die because you want him to B)Not everybody in real life looks like a model. He's just a normal every day person so get over it. :)

Anyways, the DVDs are supposed to be out today. Hopefully since I am in ND I will be able to get them today but I have a feeling I will have to wait till tomorrow. We are always a day behind on games and movies. :(

OK, I bought the DVDs on Tuesday and I am already 16 episodes into the show. I am much more addicted to it than I ever was with Babylon5 or Alias which I didn't think was possible.

My favorite and at the same time most annoying moment is when they finally catch that ugly,squishy faced asshole Ethan Rom and Jack hands him the beat down of his life. I had to rewind and watch that a few times. But then dummie Charlie guns him down, IMHO that was a lame and over the top way to avoid giving away too much of the plot. Gahhh.

I also am thoroughly enjoying the flashbacks for each character.

Oh yeah, and I don't feel sorry for Kate, she is a compulsive liar through and through.

My other favorite episode is when the "creature" "kills" Shannon in fornt of Boone, and the next episode she bugs him to help her and Michael build that lame ass raft. Shannon: "SO....do you want to help me?!" Boone: "UM....no thanks." Whoo :lol:

I also thought Locke would be a villian but he seems to be a rather benevolent (if not delusional) wise man.

Oh yeah, and Sayid is a truly great character and Sawyer is the most likeable jerk I have ever seen on TV.

Just so you know, my friend told by episode 3 of the new season, we'll know exactly what's down the hatch. So one thing we'll be solved for sure... and then there will be at least 3 new mysteries created by finding out about the hatch.

Awesome, all I can say is I am really glad I only have to wait till next wednesday to see the next part instead of having to wait 3-4 months. :p

I finished the last 3 episodes last night. The launch of the raft was really cool, nice to see folks getting along and working together as Michael, Walt, Sawyer and Jin start off on their journey. The smoke-trail like security system creatures really seem to be picking up and trying new things, evil people on the "rescue" boat took Walt yikes!, and they finally blew the flippin' hatch open.

I was watching some of the bonus features and one of the guys on the staff said they wanted to give the show a slight video game "completion" feel "So we have this hatch, and like in a video game it might take you a few weeks before you have what you need before you can open it."

I thought that was really cool, gives the hatch a creepy Metroid feel to it from my own personal viewpoint (since it takes a long time before you can get a certain type of missle or bomb needed open some of the hatches on Zebes). Oh yeah, and I have to wonder, during the episode when Sayid is flashing back to infiltrating the sleeper cell in Sydney, two of the terrorist roommates are playing Half Life and shooting zombie scientists taken over by headcrabs, "No, no use the shotgun! Or the crow bar! Try that." The show is high on symbolism and hinting at future things with visual clues so I have to wonder if that was a hint at some sort of future creature they might encounter. I don't think it was just thrown in there.

Oh yeah, and my favorite line from Sawyer so far:

Michael and Jin yapping at each other and arguing on the raft

Sawyer: "Hey! 'Han and Chewie!' Ya wanna stop arguing and tell me what the heck is going on?!" :lol:

man, that scene where the boat people come and the music totally tricks you into thinking it will be a real rescue was set up perfectly. So creepy when the music drops as the bearded guy says "Haha. Yeah, well how about that. pause Only thing is....we're gonna have to take the boy." :eek:

From what I've surmissed of the last episode, is that the smoke trail is actually the Others, not the security system. When they finally catch up to crazy French woman, they find the fire creating the smoke and no one around it. My guess - the people who had it, were the people on the boat. They went off into the sea in order to intercept the raft.

The guy who plays Michael confirmed that the guys on the boat were the Others on a Jimmy Kimmel when the entire cast was on his show.

And you're probably right about the Half Life thing. Those flashbacks aren't just for background on the characters. There is probably so much we'll be able to pull from season one, and apply to season two.

I just hope they don't treat the hatch, when they start season 2, as 2 minutes of hatch antics, and 42 minutes of the raft story. I have a feeling it will be this way, as Michael, Jin, and Sawyer try to drift back to the island.

From what I read, they aren't going to tease around with the hatch - the main writer, or whomever it was, promised that the first episode will give a very good look at what is down there. It'll no doubt lead to more secrets, but it won't be a "three second look" tease.

As well, it is supposed to take at least a few episodes for the people from the raft to make it back - like four or five, I think.

So I'm not going to read any of the thread yet since I'm only on Disc 3 of season one but I am going to say omg holy shit this is a good show. Some of it is forced and very TV, but most of the time its pretty fantastic.

Yeah, it was obvious enough that the fire was set as a distraction, and I too thought the boat people would be part of the Others. They must be working for the smoke trail "creatures" somehow which require a child for some reason.

I wonder what Danielle means by "infected" though? Maybe the boat people are actually former members of her expedition who were "infected" ie: they actually weren't killed but decided to help the smoke cretaures do their evil bidding. Anybody seeing a few possible Babylon 5 parallels here between the smoke creatures and the Shadows?

I have thought for awhile that J.J. Abrams and his collegues are Babylon 5 fans in some way. I mean, before Abrams made Alias, J. Michael Straczynski was the only TV writer I can think of who carefully planned plots years ahead of time ('tho some of Lost seems to be planned while other elements are 'thrown in,' albeit carefully I assume)

Well I'm new to the show. I was looking for something to watch a few weeks ago so I decided to see what the hell all the talk about this is. Surprise! Its a reall good show. Well, that episode was nuts. Below are some observations I pulled from the DVR last night:


- The injection bottle at the beginning had the numbers on it.
- The hatch had quarantine on the INSIDE of it, so it would allow you to infer that the hatch is quarantined, the island is.
- It looks like Desmond, or the guy at the beginning is typing the numbers into the computer.
- 108 (total of the numbers) is painted on the mural down the hatch.
- The electromagnet that Jack found could very well be what makes the monster/security system function.
- The person who Jack's future fiance kills is named Rutherford... which is Shannon's last name.

And hopping around the net, I have found the following theories:


- Walt says the following backwards: 'Press the button. No, button's bad.' OR 'Press the button when he's not there'. And the only button we've ever seen... is the one on the computer.
- Desmond was featured slightly in one of Locke's flashbacks.
- Desmond and the guy at the beginning are not the same person.
- Go to http://oceanicflight815.com and enter 'theislandiswaiting' after clicking the barcode at the bottom. WEIRD!

I find it wierd that the button says "Execute" and not "Enter" or "Return".
Is that common for old computers?

The 16 stands for the maximum amount of people that could encounter thier twin all at the same time. Think about the number of main characters.

The 23 is the number of years apart your twin and yourself are. You are not the same age as your twin. By chance and probablity it takes 23 years exactly for the same genes that made you to be connected again to form another you.

The 42 stands for the maximimum number of years your twin and yourself can be alive at the same time. However people do die at diffferent times so thats why everyone isn't dead at 75. For example my twin was born on Sept. 6 2003 b/c i was born on Spet. 6 1980. Now that doesn't mean i will die in the year 2045, I could, but its not set in stone. My twin could die when he is 16, and then the whole thing starts over again.

This is all very complicated and I don't know how well I explained it but the connections with the show are too coinidental to not be real.

Roussau and his team (wife, included) went to the 8th continent. You can figure out how they died and why by the numbers and equations. It also fits with every character. You can predict when they will die. There are others on the island who are twins of the survivors, but have been there 23 years longer.

There is a book Roussau wrote 16 years ago in 1988 when he came up with the theory. Thats where I got it from.

No, not at all. I watched season 1. My point was, it took nearly the entire first season to get into the hatch. As strange as what we've seen is down there is, I can't believe that there isn't going to be far more weirdness to it. I think a lot of peopel are coming under the assumption that one of the major plotpoints of an entire season was now mostly explained in one episode, but I can only imagine how things are going to play out and what the real story is. That's all I was saying.

- Who are The Others?
- What do they want with Walt?
- Where did Ethan come from?
- Why was he so powerful?
- What did he want with Claire (The pregnent girl, is that her name?)
- What happened to Claire when she was away?
- What is the significance of the psychic's time with Claire? Evil Baby, etc, and did he send her on the plane knowing it would crash? (I'm inclined to think there wasn't any adoption family in LA and that's the case).
- What are the voices in the forest?
- What happened to Rousseau's friends, family, specifically, her reference to - 'watching them, and/or ''turning''?
- Why does Walt have powers before the island?
- Why can Locke Walk, then have it fail?
- How did Locke know it would rain in '1 minute'?
- Why was Locke in a wheelchair?
- What is the significance of the light from the Hatch and why is Locke so compelled to enter it?
- What is in the Hatch?
- Why does Walt touch Locke and then say "Don't open it", given that he does not know of the hatch, what is he talking about?

Now that the last has been answered, it opens up even more questions:

- Is it Desmond in the hatch or a twin/clone/etc?
- How long has he been down there?
- What is he injecting himself with?
- What is the "Darma" group or whatever?
- What is it's purpose? (When built, obviously massive complex)
- Is the hatch to keep him safe from the outside, or the outside safe from him?
- Who built it?
- Was Desomond instructed/told to talk to Jack in the stadium?
- Was there another person in the Hatch? Ethan?
- Does Desmond recognize Jack or not?
- Why was the Hatch Ladder broken?
- Why was the Mirror and Telescope set up if the hatch was buried under the Earth until Locke and Boone found it?
- Why did Walt appear to Boones Sister/why could she see him?

One question I do have that someone might know, did Ethan appear before the hatch was excavated, or after? This might help to answer if he is from the Hatch, barring a 2nd exit.

I'd like to see a 5 year run with a slow progression of answers and not have it go too batshit wacky like the X-Files did. As it stands, right now it's the best show on TV and, though I never thoguht I'd say this, better than 24.

Locke and Boon found the hatch while searching for Ethan who had just abducted Charlie and Claire.

I'm trying to get involved more this season as far as coming up with ideas and finding out information are concerned. The season premiere was awesome and it can only get better from here. So here is a theory I've made that involves Desmond, Walt, and Hurley.

"You have to lift it up."

"See you in another life."

These are probably the 2 quotes from this episode that stand out. Thinking about these 2 quotes, Desmond predicted the future twice. First, "You have to lift it up." When Jack was explaining to Sara in the hospital that she will never walk and then Sara said that she could wiggle her toes, Jack lifted up the blankets. Although he would've lifted them up if Desmond didn't say it, but he still said it nevertheless.

Now comes the obvious one. Desmond tells Jack that he will see him in another life, and even though we're not sure this is another life, Desmond and Jack meet once again.

Given that we believe that Desmond can predict the future, this could mean that Desmond can somehow predict the future. Connect this with Walk being able to predict the future (or at least somehow have a connection with what will happen in the future, an example being the polar bear), this could mean "The Others" abducted Desmond at a young age (maybe he was from Danielle's expedition) and placed in the hatch to keep his powers protected. Now maybe this is why Walt was captured. To be kept isolated away from everyone.

Claire's baby might also have powers but we don't know it yet. The only question I would have is how "The Others" know about these powers before hand.

If we were to go beyond the idea of children just being captured, Hurley would also fit into this. The numbers have brought him bad luck, so he is cursed. But Hurley has also predicted the past and present not knowingly. I checked TV.com for some quotes and I saw Hurley was quoted saying, "4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42, 4, 8, we’re dead, 15, dude we're dead, 16, 23, 42." Notice how he said, "We're dead" after the 8 and then, "Dude we're dead" after the 15. Adam Rutherford was pronounced dead at 8:15 as a result of Sarah's car accident. Not sure if that's significant enough to be called a solid connection or just a coincidence, but I found it interesting nonetheless. However, we do keep seeing these numbers come up again and again. So this means Hurley does have some sort of powers with those numbers.

This would mean that Desmond, Walt, and Hurley all have powers. I'm not sure about Claire's baby since we aren't aware if the baby has any powers or not. If in fact the baby does, this would mean that "The Others" are collecting people with powers and trying to isolate, or "quarantine" them from everyone else.

Just watched S02E01, it was really good, can't wait till wednesday's one.

On tvtorrents.com, it says that S02E05 is called, "Everyone Hates Hugo", so I think that some genuine connection between the numbers and events will be made soon, if that title is to be in any way relevent.

I really do hope they have a definite length for the series, instead of just the usual US TV show route where the continue to run a popular show until it is pushed into the ground. I know the creators have said that they already have the entire main storyline finished, and that they've made it in a way that they have flexibility to add in more side things to lengthen the story.

After getting into Japanese TV dramas, where every show has a set run, though, I've really come to see the huge positives to having a story have the chance to tell what it needs to tell, and then finish without having to find new ways to keep dragging it on.

I love Lost, and it is the kind of show I'm sure I could watch for years and years and years, but I think it'll be far better off if it doesn't go that way. I think five years would be a good amount of time, but not any more than that.

That would mean like four times the material that exists would need to be produced; I really don't know if they could keep it good that long.

One of the main reasons it's good now is because of all the things we don't know yet, but those things are gradually becoming known to us, and soon, it's going to have start going somewhere.

The creators have said that they would like the show to go on for 5 seasons total. Not sure if I can find the source. If I do, I'll post it.

While skimming through some of the really neat theories here and skipping a lot of spoilers, I just wanted to say that the season opener was awesome. Even though we have new questions (of course), they at least showed us pretty much everything that was at the bottom of the Hatch without fooling around and the new details that were introduced are hooking together seamlessly with the previous clues and plotlines .And thanks to portnoyds's post, was wondering what Walt was saying when Shannon saw him and very interesting that the numbers were on Desmond's injection bottle too.

Also, this episode seems to confirm a few major things:

Although the Island itself may be some kind of "entity"/living thing, it would appear from all the computers and gizmos at the bottom of the Hatch that a lot of the bad things now happening on it are man made some how and that the Island cannot simply be explained as some sort of strange "purgatory dimension."

The fact that Desmond is injecting himself with fluid, the medieval plague mural and so on confirms that Danielle is not crazy or delusional when she tells Sayid that "the disease killed them all." So we can probably now be sure that the Others really were the ones that set the smoke signal (and it wasn't just a trick that Danielle used) and before they apparently went to intercept the raft, they were planning on storming the beach in numbers to kidnap Claire and her baby (and no doubt also to retaliate for Ethan)

So why do they keep wanting to kidnap children? Is it just ones that supposedly have super abilities like Walt or is it also somehow ties into Rousseau's "exact twin theory" as a way to countereffect it?

Anyways, I cannot wait to see how Michael, Jin and Sawyer get outta their predicament next week. And here's hoping Michael gets revenge for Walt. And that Sawyer and Jin get revenge for the raft. :p

Oh yes, and the fact that we don't see Kate when Desmond has a gun to Locke's head is a bit worrying.

MVS, have you ever seen Babylon 5? Now there is a show that fits your description right there: 5 years of very tightly unwinding and carefully pre-written story arc with intensely defined characters and events. A word to the wise though, the DVDs are now very expensive for some reason so if you do decide to watch it, just rent it off of Netflix or whatever.

The numbers are connected to Rousseu, and she made reference to the reason why they got stuck on the island, as well as on the hatch. It's the connection of the numbers to everybody that seems to draw them to the island.

I can't believe I forgot this. I was chatting with a girl I know a few weeks before the premiere and we had the following conversation:

I put in my Season 1 DVD in and turned on the subtitles when Boone is talking on the radio, and the voice really does say "We're the survivors of 815" (i was not watching the show yet when the episode originally ran). Maybe this in some way confirms the exact twin theory?

The fact that Desmond is injecting himself with fluid, the medieval plague mural and so on confirms that Danielle is not crazy or delusional when she tells Sayid that "the disease killed them all." So we can probably now be sure that the Others really were the ones that set the smoke signal (and it wasn't just a trick that Danielle used) and before they apparently went to intercept the raft, they were planning on storming the beach in numbers to kidnap Claire and her baby (and no doubt also to retaliate for Ethan)

So why do they keep wanting to kidnap children? Is it just ones that supposedly have super abilities like Walt or is it also somehow ties into Rousseau's "exact twin theory" as a way to countereffect it?

Anyways, I cannot wait to see how Michael, Jin and Sawyer get outta their predicament next week. And here's hoping Michael gets revenge for Walt. And that Sawyer and Jin get revenge for the raft. :p

Oh yes, and the fact that we don't see Kate when Desmond has a gun to Locke's head is a bit worrying.



MVS, have you ever seen Babylon 5? Now there is a show that fits your description right there: 5 years of very tightly unwinding and carefully pre-written story arc with intensely defined characters and events. A word to the wise though, the DVDs are now very expensive for some reason so if you do decide to watch it, just rent it off of Netflix or whatever.

Awesome, just be patient with Babylon 5 season 1, the first season takes awhile to build steam and has a few cheesy moments. But once you get to a few key episodes in the middle of S1 and its season finale you will be: "Ahhhh! Incredible! Trek is the suxxorz! :eek: " :p

Nah, I think it's how they're going to fit in Ana Lucia (Michele Rodriquez) and the guy who played Adibisi into the cast. I do remember the whole 'There were no survivors' thing, but that must have been a glitch in the matrix. Basically, the person Boone spoke to was someone from the tail section. Remember, Ana Lucia was in 42F. My theory is that the tail section broke off and landed on the other end of the island, where no one from the current cast has ventured, and they have a working radio. Either Michael, Sawyer (what's left of him), and Jin will meet up with them, or they will meet up with Jack and the gang because they ventured from the camp to find where Boone was, realizing that they weren't alone.

After you do the Ana Lucia bit from the flight plan, there will be one way or another to click the name Ethan Rom. It will then ask you to rearrange the letters. The answer is Other Man. Now, that would imply he's just an other... but what if it meant Other Man in the Hatch? The Others were implied to be far away from the main camp, which would make it hard for Ethan to sneak in and go with the flow with such a long distance when the plane crashed. But if he popped out of the hatch... easy.

Well, I think you may be totally right about Ana Lucia (who is Adibisi though?), we already saw her in a previous episode (forget which one, but she was having a drink with Jack before they caught their flight) and yeah, whoever was on the radio speaking to Boone right before he died might have been one of her fellow survivors. Excellent theory.

But I still think the guy at the beginning of the episode is Desmond. I don't see how it couldn't be. It looks like him. I think the only reason we saw the back of his head was just so the writers ensured we wouldn't know he was the guy from Jack's flashback until we saw the end of the episode.

Could be, though I think there are 5 distinct groups on the island:
The Main Group
The French Group (Rousseau is the only one left)
The Hatch
The Tail Section
The Others

I don't think that the others are linked directly to the Hatch, they do have a boat, sure, but the explosives they used are homemade and not even on the level of a grenade, which, by what was shown in SE02E01 is entirely likely to be in the Hatch Armory. Ethan in the hatch, with the serum or whatever could explain his superhuman strength/endurance, though.

I think Ethan was one of The Others, they took claire to get her kid, did whatever they do and then realized they don't want him, they want Walt (the same mistake that Rousseau made at the end of SE01). Walt, with his Bird Killing Powers is the key, and given that he's the only one who seems to have some documented creepy powers pre-island, they seem to know this.

Maybe Walt's Evil Eye knew this was coming, and he is psychic, given he burned the first boat that was built, i.e., didn't want to go out to sea. I don't see this as a stretch given his warning to Locke about the Hatch.

Others could be anything at this point, psychics, future versions of Main Group, who knows.

First off, Dylan, as to what Josh posted, Adibisi is what I call Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. He's one of the main characters (for a time anyway) on the show Oz on HBO. He is one scary motherfucker. But he joined the Lost cast, and his character is still unknown at this point.

Also another note, IMDB does not say outright that Desmond is in the next episode, so don't be surprised if we're left with a cliffhanger until after this ep. Judging by the title 'Adrift', we're dealing with the raft guys on Wednesday.

There's a possibility that the Others could be Rosseau's French Group minus Rosseau herself. I mean, she's nuts. Death for her could be anything. I remember someone noting back at the season finale, that the bomb the Other used to blow up the raft looking like it was full of nitroglycerin, which could have been harvested from the sweat from the Black Rock. What this has to do with anything, I don't know, but I thought I'd mention.

What you say about Walt puts in interesting theory in my head, combined with what we know. Desmond, who appeared in Jack's flashback, and apparently briefly in Locke's, will probably end up interacting with everyone. My theory is that, in the same way that he probably made Jack's fiance better, will influence everyone's lives to the point that they would make the infamous flight. The reason why being that everyone involved was identified as a possible person to have a child like Walt, with Walt's powers. Possibly with no way to know who would have the child or he would be, they brought them all to the island, using the island as a natural setting to let the one with powers show their abilities. It's also possible that all main group members were infected with something that would bring out those powers if they laid dormant, or causing them to begin with. Hence why Desmond injects himself with something (to protect himself?) and the island is quarantined.

The Others, one way or another, knew of this plan (possibly the reason they were brought there... and without positive result for the experiment), they knew they had to get 'the child' (which is why it could have been Claire's baby) either to get off the island, or to harness their power against their captors (Desmond and his leaders).

The point of the island is to be a habitat for the the research into super powered humans, ones with reality altering powers. Desmond leads or manages control over the island, the monster makes sure no threats come (and why did it kill the pilot? because the pilot purposely took the plane off course and he knew too much AND the monster, judging by the animated gif earlier in this thread, took down the plane), and the island is the 'petri dish' for the experimental research. The numbers could be the hallmark of this reality altering power.

I think the monster is operated by the large magnet Jack found in the hatch. Small bits of metal moved by a magnet that clearly affects the island (as showcased by Locke's compass in season 1).

I just rented the entire season last weekend and watched it almost none stop. Funny thing is, I went into Blockbuster to rent Disc 2 of Six Feet Under (which they no longer carry, but still have 1-3-4) and decided to just try out Lost. After watching Disc 1, I ran back and snatched up the other five discs (they had a ton, so it's not like I was being a bitch by taking all of them).

Holy crap, such an amazing show. So intricate and mysterious. There really isn't much that I can say that hasn't been said in this thread already, but I can't wait until this Wednesday. I had to beg a friend to let me come over, because I currently don't have a TV (watched it on my laptop). Absolutely the best show I have ever watched.

BTW: I hate Sawyer a lot. Just the character in general. He's not very interesting, and the only thing he provides is an obstacle for the people on the island to do their thing. I feel sorry for Kate, though. She never gets a chance to explain herself so now everyone hates her more than Sawyer.

And what was up with Walt constantly screaming "Dad, please help me" while The Others took him away? I know it's instinct for people to do that, but jesus christ, it's pretty clear that the dad was powerless to do anything about it. But now that we know The Others were after Walt, what do you think Ethan wanted with Claire? Do you think he was with The Others, or did he just want HER and not necessarily the baby to appease whatever it is that The Others want?

From what I've read in interviews, Abrams says you don't really get any answers to what's going on in the hatch untill episode 3... this first episode is just a tease and most of what we've seen and thought is probably wrong.

Sawyer is awesome because you're supposed to hate him. He's the foil to Jack and that's why the love triangle is so interesting because Kate knows she is similar to Sawyer--more than she is willing to admit.
