Ok, I just installed XP Pro and reformatted, and I'm having 2 big issues. First, my C drive is being recognized as having 232 gigs of space (which is right) but it says that only 103 of that is free, which is insane. I've only installed the basic programs and imported about 20 gigs of music off of my ipod.
Secondly, I have no sound and not no sound as in my speakers aren't plugged in, but I can't even open volume control. It tells me no mixer is available.
Please help me before I die.
One problem now. I figured out my sound situation, but the hd is still kicking my ass.
did you notice the problem immediately after reformatting (ie. before installing any new software)?
and this isn't a partitioning thing, is it?
I didn't notice it immediately, so I can't say if it was like that immediately, but it isn't partitioned at all.Quote:

When you formatted the drive did XP detect the entire drive space? Maybe the XP Pro cd you have is pre-SP1?? If so then that could be it. You could go to Disk Management (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management) and see if there is space that is there but not formatted.
Maybe your motherboard's BIOS is old?? Some older pc's could have problems with large harddrives. Maybe check the BIOS to see if its detected.
Its definitely not your videocard.
It's definitely the AGP slot.
The PC definitely detects the whole space in administrative tools.Quote:
