I agree that the single-player is an excellent game in itself, but I'd still be hard-pressed to buy a console port for $50, even with my shitty PC, when I know that so much more is out there.Quote:
That's only true of multiplayer. HL was a more than worthy single player game on its own.

Half Life 2 will be amazing. IB all of Andy's Ns.
FACT: The Source Engine is not nearly as computationally intense as Doom 3.
FACT: The Source Engine was designed to scale down to a P3-600 with a TNT2 card and still look good.
FACT: The Xbox is more powerful than a P3-600 with a TNT2 card.
FACT: Its easy for developers to port DirectX games to Xbox.
FACT: The PC game market is flailing, and the market is shrinking.
FACT: Xbox games sell a lot more than PC games do, and make more money.
FACT: Half-Life came out for PlayStation 2.
Put all of this together, people. Id bet that itll come out for Xbox.
I hate it when people change a quote inline by replacing, say, Xbox with Gamecube, so I will spare everybody (and I won't be clever and say "fixed"; lame).Quote:

Though, Half-life came out and didn't have an online component that I know of on PS2.
Yea, I hate that shit too. But anyway.
It didnt, but I think PS2 Half-Life predates the PS2 network adapter.
In any case, it makes a lot more sense to put it on Xbox. The game is written for DirectX, Xbox supports DirectX natively (where do you think the name Xbox came from), has a hard drive (my guess is that HL2 is a lot like the original HL, caches data extensively to cut down on loading times and discrete levels), the Xbox has a fanbase that likes FPSes, and online could be done.
It really makes no sense to put it on GameCube, a system that has a controller that is assy for FPSes, has a development environment that is nothing like DirectX, and has a fanbase of little kids and soccer moms who only like Nintendo games.
And Andy, you talk about things being watered down, are you crazy? The best thing about Half-Life (and presumably Half-Life 2) was the great atmosphere. If its on Xbox, and you got a 50" HDTV, 5.1 surround, the works, that would just be an awesome experience that cant be matched with your 19" monitor and chair. That would easily make up for any graphic and control deficiencies (which I think would be slight to nonexistant).
Technically, it makes the MOST sense to put the original Half Life on Xbox with online play and all the expansions either bundled in or as downloadable Premuim Content.
The fact that they shelved the product after the PS2 release amazes me.
Hell, if Half Life 1 came out on Xbox today, I'd buy it today.
I was just making convo with the Gamecube suggestion. We all know the user-base isn't that of the Xbox. No offense intended to anybody...
You can listen to HL2 with 5.1 on your PC and I'm sure the resolution and crispness will be unmatched by any HDTV. It is a crime to play this on anything but a PC.
edit : Also my chair is very comfortable and I could sit here all day and sometimes I take little naps between SC:BW sessions here.

Woo, that sounds like fun!Quote:

How many Xbox games have sold over a million in the US, in it's lifetime? Huh? Oh yeah, four (and just because you love the Cube so much, its had 6 million sellers in the US alone, fyi). And Xbox games make more money than PC games? Um, you do know what licencing fees are, don't you? I don't know what is with you and many other people on here, but I personally like to play games. Games are, you know, fun. IMO. Pretending as if I'm some financial or marketing executive of a big corporation like Microsoft isn't fun, it's retarded. I don't know about you, but frankly, I don't play games based on whether a product is a viable revenue source for Microsoft.Quote:

And by all accounts, it was in every way inferior to the PC version. Which is all I'm arguing. I'm not saying they wouldn't make money on the game, I'm just saying that it would be gay.Quote:

That's great. Good luck with that. I'm going to go play a better version of Counter-Strike: Source than the Xbox will ever recieve, right now, while you wait a year on the thought that you might, concievably, eventually play a port of it. Which won't be as good. If you ever get it. Holla!Quote:

No, I am not crazy. Perhaps I'm just better informed, or --and hold your breath for this one-- I have my own opinion. Do you have a 50" HDTV and 5.1 surround? I don't. But guess what? My PC still displays a better picture and produces just as competent sound (though I personally go for headphones anyway). And maybe you're a glutton for punishment, but considering you're on the computer 24 hours a day, why don't you just buy a fucking decent chair? I don't know about you, but my chair is perfectly fine. And regardless of that, you're telling me that when you play a game, you would take a (in your own words) graphically and control-inferior game, over a couch vs chair? You know, there's a reason I never take your posts seriously (outside of the fact that they are usually asinine piles of douche-baggery), and that's because I know that just about all of the time what you're saying isn't what you actually do, or your actual opinion. But hey, if you've got that 50" HDTV, more power to ya.Quote:
