I bought that instead of the billion other PS games that were out at the time. I played that game maybe twice. It's a pretty blatant clone of Freespace, too.
Against all advice, I bought Devil May Cry 2. In addition, I once received a 32X for my birthday. I feel bad for my parents.

Man, I got Beyond the Beyond for free (from some silly cereal box deal or some equally crazy product tie-in) and I still feel ripped off.
The one really bad purchase I had that really sticks out is The Bouncer, when that game came out. I liked Dream Factory's earlier efforts (Tobal 1 & 2, Ehergirz) and I figured the game would be a 3D brawler with fairly involved mechanics (think the adventure modes in Tobal 2 and Ehergirz) and some cool-looking cinematics. Negative on that; I surely got baited. I was so angry about this game I social engineered a return of the damn thing a week after I bought it.

In other news: AAAARRGHH!!!! Why did you have to mention Beyond the Beyond? I really thought I didn't have anything noteworthy to contribute to this thread, I'd forgotten that I'd bought that turd of a game and suffered through about 95% of it. I was on the last dungeon, I had maybe an hour or two of gameplay left, and I just plain quit. I'd rather have snapped the disk in half than played it again. Even finding out there was a bonus intro that I hadn't seen that took a few button presses at the title screen wasn't enough to make me inflict that ultimate insomnia cure on my poor, RPG-starved PS1. And yes, I did buy it almost as soon as it came out.

I scrounged up change to buy that damn game on release day. I had just got done with 3 and needed my next silent hill fix. I dunno what I bought, but thats not a silent hill game. I played through the whole game hoping it would get better or it would unlock something of redeeming value...nope.
I'm trading that crap in to help me get paper mario 2. I've never traded a game in before either, thats how much I HATE this game.
Well, I don't think anything will probably ever top the $50 I'll never get back for Stretch Panic. What made that one especially painful was that the Gamestop employee actually offered to let me return it after I opened it and I REFUSED due to by blind fanboy love of all things Treasure.
One of the few times being a "hardcore gamer" has come back to bite me in the ass :rolleyes:
The one that stands out the most in my mind would be Hoshigami. Further compounded by my intense anticipation of the game.

You obviously liked the game to the point you were able to divorce logic and reality from yourself when you sat down to crank out this hideously misleading review. The 'turn signal' way of doing things would be fine...if you weren't always being rushed along by a painfully short time limit, which upon falling makes you repeat that sequence from the start, the WHOLE sequence. Yes, minimalism in terms of piercing the illusion of the game world is innovative, but when it's at the cost of gameplay it's not always worth it. Also, three bad purchases stand out for me. Stretch Panic (easily one of the worst games ever made) for $50 and Metal Slug 3 AES. I didnt even have a Neo-Geo, but I "was hoping to get one". I never did. It sat in my room for almost 3 and a half years, but I finally sold it a couple weeks ago. There's also the GBA, I spent way too much money on that piece of garbage and sadly realized my folly soon after, when I was stuck with an ugly system with a screen so dark I couldnt see, a cramped button layout designed for 9-year old Japanese children that made my hands hurt. And the games were really, really expensive and mostly shit.

I just started GTA3 on the Xbox this weekend (100% on PS2, just never tried the Xbox rev out) and I was hooked all over again. The old city's layout came back almost instantly, and I started getting the nearby jumps and kill frenzies done. It took my ambulance flipping over during level 11 of the ambulance mission to get me to stop playing last night at 2am. That was pretty soul-crushing =(

i was so excited about this one when it was announced, and to even make me more excited, it was online. when i got the game and played it(online/offline) i felt like i wanted to cut my throat open! the game was pure garbage, trying to sign on online was enough to make me smash my controller....and dont get me started on the on-screen keyboard....that is if you call it a keyboard!

I thought the game was a bit underrated, though it definitely had some huge flaws. The online was an utter mess (which wasn't a problem for me, really), but the driving model was a pretty fun balance of sim physics and arcade speed. Though it's too bad that the best way to play is to just bounce off of walls--had they made wall collisions knock your speed more (like just about any decent racing game will) then competitive driving could've actually been fun. A bunch of bad Saturn imports - wanted to try out some good ol 2d fun, but ended up paying way too much for mediocre trash. KOF 96, bubble symphony, Samurai showdown 3-4, and vampire savior come to mind. Atrocious load time in the KOF, and i couldnt get into the other fighters at all. Sure, theres alot of good saturn imports, but theres ALOT of bad ones too.
Skies of Arcadia - my most hated rpg ever. Retarded characters, boring plot, horrible load time before battles, terrible ugly texture choices in places, random fights every five seconds ARRRGGG! Traded this in ASAP.
Unreal Tournament - THE absolute worst character designs ever. I hate them in every way. Complete stale shit. I couldnt get into the gameplay because of this. even 2k4 got some shitty designs, though not as bad.
Sonic Adventure 2 - the demo was pure awesomeness, too bad the rest of the game was pure poop. The Knuckles levels can rot in hell for eternity.
Shenmue - zzzzzzzzzz....hated every second of this game. I actually forced myself to play through the entire thing, hoping it would get better. The fork lift part drove me to near suicide. Forklift part = Definition of "not fun".
Doom3 - suckered into the hype. I paid 55 bucks for gameplay this dated?
