The iPod Photo

yes, my 200 dollar 40 gig zen vs. the 400 dollar ipod is well spent. There is not enough to the ipod to merit 200 more dollars, no matter how well it's made.

I don't have the zen touch scroll, I have a clicky wheel type device that doesn't turn, but is simply held up or down. It has a little bump on it that supports your finger nicely to hold it in either direction. Works beautifully. I suppose they took a step backwards with that function. The prev. generation jukebox, the 3, had a shitty wheel that you had to keep spinning, and was my least favourite part about it. The ipod scroll wheel makes me angry. I always overshoot or undershoot or cant get what I want. People with parkinsons couldn't use it. :P

Anyway, actual arkanoid on the ipod photo, with the color screen, is what I'm talking about here. That would be amazing. You can't play arkanoid without the knob or some other similar device.

With the knob - Level 20 easily.
Without - Level 3 maybe.

Since Solitaire is on the iPod Photo, I don't see why they wouldn't import Brick (aka Arkanoid/Breakout), Music Quiz, and Parachute onto it. Breakout is extremely easy with the iPod wheel.

Let's be fair, though - this isn't just Apple. A great deal of MP3 players out there have battiers that aren't made to be user-replacable. I'm not defending Apple or anything - this is a pretty crappy deal. Too many companies anymore are looking at technology as being disposable, and when one component breaks down, you're supposed to buy a whole new one. Computers I'm a bit more forgiving on, because they become near worthless a few years out anyhow. But on something like a music player that doesn't just become a paperweight after a few years, you should be able to replace the battery cheaper and easier.

I was infering that the Ipod photo should be able to play quicktime files if they are going to waste the effort on a color screen..

But anyways, the Ipod's battery problem isnt really Apple's fault. Lithium Ion batterys will last 2 years TOPS, then will no longer hold a charge. a heavy user would be lucky to get more than a year out of it.

Its stupid to not make the battery user serviceable, but thats not just Apple.
