My Yanks do have a long way to go in the pitching department before I'll be happy, but beating you in the Carl Pavano sweepstakes is a great start. There's no way Kevin Brown will be pitching for the Yankees in 2005, and we'll definately add at least another pitcher. I also wouldn't mind giving Brad "Admiral" Halsey the 5th slot, I liked what I saw out of the kid last year and he's a lefty. He looks like he could be the next Andy Pettite someday.
The 69' Mets are the comeback/miracle team of baseball postseason history without question, remove the rivalry from it and the 2004 ALCS is just a neat footnote to the Red Sox finally winning the World Series.
Mike: What do you mean by "back for a while"? Not making the playoffs, not winning the World Series, not getting to the World Series?
Stormy: I have to disagree with the Wells-Lowe offsetting Pedro thing, Wells is awful in Fenway Park, 41 with a ticking timebomb back, and don't forget Lowe did close out all three 2004 playoff series and pitch some big games for you over the years. I'd be uncomfortable with swapping out Lowe for Wells, let alone including the loss of Pedro in the mix. I do agree wholeheartedly about Beltran, I'm really starting to get tired of all this Carlos Beltran bullshit. This guy had one good season, because he had a great couple weeks in the postseason against mostly bad pitching he's all of a sudden Joe DiMaggio? Don't get me wrong, I want him on the Yankees badly, but all this drama is just insane. It's past the winter meetings and we still have to hear about 10 years 200 million from the guy that said he had 5 years 65 million waiting to be signed for Kevin Millwood last year? Nobody's going to give Beltran more than 15 million per year or anything close to 10 years, I will be absolutely shocked if Beltran's contract even cracks 100 million. I almost wish he'd just take the Houston offer at this point so we can all move the fuck on to more important things. I wouldn't have a problem with letting Bernie Williams play out his career in center, it's not like the world ends if we can't slot Beltran into the top of a lineup with Jeter, A-Rod and Sheffield.
Give me another stud pitcher (maybe AJ Burnett or Tim Hudson) any day over Beltran. The Dynamic Duo of Brown/Vasquez didn't murder us in 2004 because Bernie Williams was in center field instead of Carlos Beltran.
