And Johnson is 41 years old, I do want him but if the Yankees don't get him it's not the end of the world.
The Red Sox would have been a complete laughing stock if they lost Varitek too, but yes they overpaid. I really don't understand what the Red Sox are doing lately, Clement was an awful signing and I don't think Renteria is a 10 mil/year player. Varitek is approaching the downside of his career, but at least some sort of argument can be made for giving him that deal (he's the team's leader). Kind of fitting that the Red Sox captain is a guy that throws the first punch with his catcher's mask on and the Yankees captain is the most respected player in baseball :P
