HDTV

Like the title says, what do you think is the best HDTV for less than $1000. The only thing I really want is a widescreen picture. I searched for HDTV threads already and found a couple but with the constantly changing prices on TVs I figured a new thread was justified.

I've done some research but sometimes it's hard getting all the facts like display types, upscan conversions,etc. It will be for a gaming rig so please leave it in the GD forum for as long as possible before it's sent to the baren wasteland of the other threads. Thanks.

I've been looking at both of these televisions, for my living room. The Phillips model is a 30" widescreen, while the Panasonic model is a 32" (4x3).

The 32" Panasonic, is actually just as wide as the 30" Phillips widescreen. I prefer the picture quality of the Panasonic televisions, over Phillips. The Panasonic model supports 1080i and 480p(EDTV). Walmart does not list the specs for the Phillips model.

Both televisions a priced at $696 at Walmart.

Sony KV30HS420
Toshiba 30HF84

From what I've seen in my store and others, the Sony and the Toshiba take the cake. The PQ levels are great on the two but the Sony has a brighter picture (If you like that).

I personally bought the 27" HD Hi Scan Sony for my room. For the price it could not be beat. I'm not a Sony type of guy at all but they have the best picture tube in the market of HD CRTs.

The Samsung and Panasonic models are kinda entery level tv's. The PQ is good but its nothing like the Sony or the Toshiba. Try looking at them in you local "Big Box" store.

I pulled up all widescreen models because thats what you're looking for... :sweat:

What's with the 540p I keep seeing? I thought it was 480p,720p,and1080i. Thanks for the help they all look good,I'm really eyeing up the Toshiba.

By the way,anyone ever deal with Crutchfield? Their prices seem really good.

525p = 480p. The extra 45 lines aren't actually displayed, they're just part of the signal that stalls for the electron gun to get to the next line.

I seen this thread and was wondering about something. I got a DLP tv and was wondering how easy it was to get burn in on it. Havent had any problems so far but with Halo 2 coming out, I know its going to get played a lot.

I got the Toshiba 30HF84,thanks for all the help guys.

I saw that Samsung somewhere and I thought it was pretty great looking. Good price, maybe $750?

I was reading a tech page on HDTV. They stated the 1080i was the equivalent of 540p.

So are there any affordable HDTVs that can do 720p? I looked around and it seems like only the high-end beasts support it. I can only assume that the next generations of consoles will support that resolution, so it's good to investigate before plunking down the cash on a TV that doesn't.

I've only seen the bigger HDTV or the higher end CRT tv's support it. The Rest auto upscan the sigal to 1080i.

I wouldnt worry about the next consoles and 720P. Almost all PS2 games dont even support 480P let alone 720P.

My friend recommended that I buy an Ipod from Crutchfield, he said they gave him an amazing price on his 4G 20gig, for an open boxed Ipod, with free overnight shipping for $230... so yeah, I think they are pretty reliable.
