See that's the problem in this country though. For whatever stupid reason a primarily Judeo-Christian institution is intertwined with the state and federal government. Something that the Constitution expressedly forbids by stating that no government body shall favor any one religion over another.

Remove the government from any and all involvement with marriage and the problem is instantly resolved. As far as the government is concerned, marriage is nothing but a legal contract that garuntees joint custody and ownership of properties, financial assets, and legal family rights. This is what gays are asking for and I see no problem with this. Marriage as it stands in this country now is nothing but a civil union anyway.

Marriage as a spiritual institution, however, is the domain of the church and the church alone. The law has no say in matters of God and neither do the uninitiated, ignorant or outsiders. If gay couples start spewing nonsense about wanting God to bless their unions they are in for one HELL of a fight. Asking God to bless sin is pure blasphemy. No self-respecting Christian would EVER stand for that kind of garbage.

Let gays marry in the name of man and the law, but NEVER in the name of God and the Church.

I don't think gays want to get married in a church that damns them to hell for all eternity. I'm just guessing though.

God has pretty much said EVERYBODY is gonna burn w/o Jesus because humans are evil. Condemnation has nothing to with the Church. The Church is supposed to be God's tool to win souls to prevent the condemnation of mankind.

Unfortunately, however, there are far too many stupid people running the Church now who have either forgotten the reason they were called into ministry in favor of their own bullshit agendas or don't know why they are there in the first place.

The true purpose of the Church has been mostly lost in political bullshit, mired in scandal after scandal, marginalized to the point of redunancy, and overall has just become a sad mockery of the sanctuary of love and holiness it is intended to be in this corrupted world. There are small oasises (oasi?) here and there that reflect the true nature of the Church, but these are hard to find.

Knowing this, I can understand why people become atheists. Especially if they were raised Catholic.

I became an atheist because in primary (elementary) school, it was a choice of:

A) Scripture, listen to old dude tell us were all going to hell because we lived in the "Sodom of the Sothern Seas, Sydney".... alliterating bastard.
B) Non-Scripture, watch Sesame Street, see pinball go through maze and count up to 12 using cool Pointer Sisters disco song.

I think they should be given the rights of man and the law automatically, and if they can find a person to perform the ceremony they can get it in the name of their God and their Church.

If our country isn't supposed to allow church into government, then why is it that gays can't get married? I don't think this should really be an issue. Everyone should be allowed to marry whoever they feel they are in love with and want to spend the rest of their life with.
Its not all about just getting married though....a gay person wouldn't be able to see their partner in the hospital if they aren't married or family. Its just kinda pathetic that we even need to make this a big issue.
I'm a christian and I believe in Jesus and what not...but I still think that everyone deserves the right. Everyone sins, and when you die they all count as sins, no matter what the degree of the sin. Homosexuality is a sin, but being with someone forever that you unconditionally love is not.
How is gay marriage going to effect a person that doesn't agree with homosexuality? You will still see guys and gals holding hands while walking down the street and kissing eachother. Why is it the governments desicion? or ours for that matter???
